It's actually 97% for hardware and 92% for software emulation. (based on EU titles). That may be better when the US model launches, as the software BC in the EU models has risen from 88% with firmware 1.60 to 92% with 1.80 firmware. (forgetting the 1.70, which broke MGS), if they can improve it by the same margin again before next month, then you will be talking 96% vs 97%.
Also, I like hoe the article implies SCEE used the term Firesale. That is purely a Xbot addition...
If you want a $499 PS3, go down an buy one this weekend, if not, shut the fuck up.
I am sorry I have to break the bad news, but Microsoft have tricked you into thinking Blu-Ray in PS3 is slower than the DVD in the 360.
It's simply not true, Microsoft have stated the maximum data transfer rate, at the outer edge of the disk, Blu-Ray is consistent across the entire disk surface (look up CAV and CLV). If you take the average speed of the Xbox DVD drive, and consider it's only 12x on single layer media (8x on DVD9), the Xbox drive is actually slower.
I hope you didn't base any buying decisions on Microsoft's lies..
Sure the big hitters (and PS3 exclusives) MGS4 and Killzone2 are 2008, but there are big hitters were not shown, that will be the bread and butter until then.
Unreal Tournement (PS3 timed Exclusive till late 2008) Haze (PS3 exclusive) Ratchet And Clank Tools Of Destruction(PS3 exclusive) Warhawk(PS3 exclusive) Drakes Fortune(PS3 exclusive) Lair(PS3 exclusive) GT5 Prologue(PS3 exclusive)
In addition, you have GTA IV to keep you happy until then.. I'm sure there are plenty more that I forgot, either way, that list is releases between now and Xmas..
Didn't take a genius to work out you were a 360 gamer from your post. It's the same old Microsoft programmed rant 360 owners always post...
The most impressive part, is how Microsoft have actually managed to convince 10,000,000 Xbox owners, that the 360 rules, everything else sucks, despite actually supplying a pretty sucky consoles themselves, with regards to features and reliability...
I know, I know. If you listen to the Xbot blogging community, it's easy to be fooled into thinking the PS3 has no games.
Take a step out into the real world, and there are some great games already, both in retail (Motorstorm, Resistance, Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, F1 Championship), and online (SuprtStardustHD, Gran TurismoHD, Calling All Cars).
There are loads more of course, I have listed the ones I keep coming back to..
that Sony/PS3 get for everything it seems these days, and the millions of Xbots, bloggers and even proper news sites, that will gun down everything Sony does, or spind things in a negative way, the fact they all came away saying great things about Killzone 2, means that, for a rational gamer, without Sony hate blurring things, this is some seriously impressive stuff.
Forums are alight with news, that Microsoft gave nothing new, aside from a BabyPoo Green Halo 20GB Xbox 360, which clashes with the red rings of death.
I like how they implied how GTA IV was an Xbox exclusive, by bundling it with the Halo 3 statement.
Here is a reworded version for Sony:
Harrisson said "This season, the only way to play GTA IV, Killzone, Warhawk, Ratchet Clank TOD is on Playstation 3"..
Unfortunatly, the dumb Americans here can't see they are being manipulated by Microsoft FUD.
As a European PS3 owner, I can catagorically state, PS2 software emultaion is nothing to be afraid of, it works VERY well, and is only marginally less than hardware compatabiliy (92% vs 97%).
Stories about lesser PS3's about to hit the market are nonsense. If anything, I suspect the 80GB models may hit with a 65nm Cell CPU...
I can see what your doing. Create some FUD, make out there might be another price drop nearer Xmas, and try and limit the uptake of PS3's at the new price..
Well the major things all failed 360's have in common are:
The were all thrown together in a hurry, in cheap sweatshop, based on a rushed design, for as little money as possible..
It's no wonder over 30% of them fail...
PS3 and Wii are well within the 2% industry standard failure rates, even this early in their life. Microsoft have had 18 months to fix these problems, and have failed to do so.. They even had the oppertunity to fix the elite, and failed to do so, as that suffers the same issues..
The Bottom line, 360 is unreliable Junk, Microsoft know it, but simply don't care, as aslong as it makes it to the end of warranty, then people start PAYING them to get them repaired...
The Blu-Ray "long load times" is a falsehood, invented by the XBots to make DVD look the better choice.
The facts:
BluRay uses CLV, CDs and DVDs use CAV. Blu-Ray is consistant across the entire disk, the 360 is not. The quoted figures for 360 transfer rate are at the outer 10% of the disk. In addition, when you talk about dual layer DVD's (which most of these days), the 360 reads them at 8x (12x is only for single layer 4.3GB disks).
At the end of the day, real world comparisions, at best 360 is 10% faster in certain areas of the disk, at worst, it's 30% slower. On average, they are VERY similar. But throw the PS3's standard HDD into the equasion, and the PS3 is suddenly in a totally different league.
Yep, excellent plan, but lets hope they spend the added revenue generated on DECENT programming, not the crud that BBC has been churning out for the last 4 years..
BBC programe quality has gone right down the pan, and now consists mainly of cheap to make reality TV rubbish, no decent drama, comedy and other light entertainment..
Then you obviously don't own a PS3, and you would know your comments are nothing more than the usual Xbox fanboy drivel.
I've had my Euro PS3 over a month, and not been bored by any of the launch titles. I am on the Nottingham missions on Offline Resistance:FOM, and I enjoy the online play, considerably more than any of the 360 FPS games I have played to date (I used to own a 360, before It went wrong). Motorstorm is also very enjoyable. When I don't play these, I have Gran Turisno HD, which only has a single track, and a few cars, but it's still challenging to better my previous times, and get higher up the online leaderboard. I also have 3 downloaded games (Flow, Blast Factor and SuperRubADub), all cheap games, and good for quick non-nonsense gaming.
Once all that's out of the way, there is Oblilion and F.E.A.R to work though, then there will ge GTA4 (which is rumoured to look considerably better on the PS3, due to the limitations of the DVD9 on the 360).
Unlimited it seems. Time and time again, Microsoft do something to shaft their customers, be it releasing new versions of consoles, before the last ones are dead (literally in the case of the 360!), or forcing Epic to make the GOW levels chargable.
Then they make you buy some crappy game to get on the 3 week Halo 3 beta, and then charge you again to buy the full game!
Now it seems when they are not releasing GH2 patches that brick your console, they are ripping of GH2 owners with expensive content...
so 360 owners, how many times do Microsoft have to shaft you before you look at the alternatives?

Not as many crappy games as the XBox360..
Currently, It's only a Halo3, Gears and Forza 2 keeping the system alive (or dead, if you are one of the unlucky 2.5 million).

Amazing feat of social engineering..
Nice one, skip over everything else, as it's positive, and pick up on the only negative in the entire article.
The mark off a true Xbot. Now run off to your underwhelimg Halo3 beta, and cry about the entire game being relatively unremarkable...
I know, I know. If you listen to the Xbot blogging community, it's easy to be fooled into thinking the PS3 has no games.

OK, we have found out 1st idiot...
Unless Killzone 2 is a PLAYSTATION2, game, removal of the Playstation 2 from from Playstation 3 will make zero difference to a Killzone..
Did you skip school some something, or does stupid run in your family?

Typical Xbot FUD..
Bare Bones? Methinks your confused..
The 360 may be a barebones console.
The PS3 is equiped to the gills with latest tech. It was a great buy at $599, is a unbelieable steal at $499.
That Americans want to crowbar in an American inventor into the history of the CD..
Sadly the reality is, that CD was a European/Japanese concept/product..
That Microsoft PAID for GTA IV, $50,000,000 infact..
Anyone want yo count the new Exclusives on PS3, to replace the lost old ones? I think they may very well outnumber the lost ones..
Except only about 10 million are in consumers hands.. The 15 million figure was the shipped (not sold), for the benefit of shareholders...
At work, I know 11 people Xboxes, only 2 of them are still on their original unit, and 3 of these people are on at least their 2nd.
Well the major things all failed 360's have in common are:
The were all thrown together in a hurry, in cheap sweatshop, based on a rushed design, for as little money as possible..

Of course they don't
WII sales dropped 22% this month
360 sales dropped 12% this month
PS3 sales INCREASED 2% this month
PSP sales INCREASED 2% this month.
PS2 outsold all the other consoles. PS2 owners today will be PS3 owners in a couple of years time.
Very good news for Sony...

Your out by 1. There are 6 available to games at ALL times, same as Linux.
