  1. Re:Authors are disconnected on Friendster's Rise and Fall · · Score: 1

alienate early adopters? that doesn't matter to facebook, they have a healthy stream of freshmen coming in every year for whom facebook is essential. people who graduate don't use it as much afterwards anyways. see, unlike myspace, facebook is kinda necessary if you're a college student. it's more than just a social stalker place where you poke random girls and see who pokes back. like just now a classmate sent me a msg on facebook asking me if i had done the hw for tomorrow.. first of all, i had no idea there was a hw due tomorrow, so that saves me right there. and second, now i can ask her for the answers cos i haven't been to class in a while and have no idea what it's on. shit maybe even invite her over to my place to watch futurama? facebook has saved my ass in school AND found me some.

sure it might never be as big as myspace, but at least they can be pretty confident, and so can anyone who buys it, that they'll atleast always have a bunch of 18-22 year olds on it.

burdened with, what're you talking about? myspace, regardless of all the sex predator stalking high school shooting kidnap stories, is one of the most popular websites on the internet. no one that actually uses the website seems to care that there might be criminals running around. i hardly doubt fox is regretting the buy.

anyways, this is all just myspace trying to be hip by "caring" about something young people think is cool to care about, and the pet humanitarian cause for the fall semester is sudan. everyone can agree that genocide is bad so why not get together for a rock concert? mtv's been doing this for ages, actually all these media companies have been doing it for ages.. why is anyone surprised?

whatev dude. they should calculate how much business they've lost because of people that are fed up with their business tactics. but wait, they would then start suing people for no buying cds and try to pass laws mandating people buy one cd a week.

the problem with religions is that they haven't been updated in thousands of years! that's really it

i mean, back in 1000 bc i'm sure it was an excellent scientific theory to say that a dude in the sky created the earth. so someone put it in a book and people have bought that book and believed that ever since.

science has progressed, these religions are still the same. why hasn't god spoken to anyone since 90ad? he must hate america!

  8. facebook is big on Facebook On The Block · · Score: 2, Informative

walk around a university computer lab and everyone's on their facebooks all the time. people use it for class projects, to hook up, to organize parties, for everything. and when you get sick of it, you graduate, you might stop using it, but then a fresh new group of people sign up. it'll never be lame. and these are 18-22 yr olds, every company's dream audience..forever.

$2 billion might be too much, but it's definitely a worthy investment if you're a gigantic media company. yea it might be cheaper to create your own, but you can't just create that kind of popularity..

cept no one here is writing a paper. seriously, i can understand if you're a professor and you're reading all these papers and students haven't bothered to use proper spelling, then you can be pissed off and write nasty comments on the side, and bash them in class, and give them the grades they deserve. i've had points taken off for spelling many times before, and i accept it as my own fault for being too hasty. but this is TEH fucking internet, slashdot, a forum. who cares? yea im way too lazy to reach for the shift key, so what? Perhaps when an editor submits a story with horrible spelling there's some merit to the complains, but for comments, etc, seriously? give me a break.

Look, the average Afghan hated the Taliban, but they were still in POWER. These religious groups, like the Parents TV Council, Focus on the Family, etc ARE acting like the Taliban and they're increasingly getting the Republicans to do what they want. Hell, Frisk was just on a spectacle for one of these groups that want to end the fillibuster process. These people wanna censor everything, wanna teach the bible in schools as scientific fact, wanna KILL the judicial system by having only Christians as judges who judge according to the bible, they hate gay people and think they have a mental disability.. THESE PEOPLE ARE THE AMERICAN TALIBAN. they are religious EXTREMISTS and they are DANGEROUS. i know the majority of christians dont support them, but the majority of Christians apparently aren't into their shit as much as these wackos are dedicated to their "fight", their "jihad". and the SICK thing is that people, americans, the media, the politicians, EVERYONE pretends this is fine, its no big deal, theyre good people. NO. they are BAD PEOPLE.
