I am a service tech with Siemens on the Redmond Microsoft campus. We do all of their desktop support so I see A LOT of the normal day to day happenings that go on around this place. Ever since I've been here, all I've seen are people doing everything they can to make the most feature-filled, least buggy, most compatible software they can. I know for certain that the team working on Microsoft Operations Manager has in the last week broken several barriers that they were working on.
My point is that Microsoft is not the immense evil company that they are made out to be. The people that work here are not trying to rip you off. They are not sabotaging their software. They take pride in thier work. We have copies of different linux builds lying around and some people even use Macs here. Seeing the way things work here, when Balmer says he has not thrown a chair, I believe him. Every last employee and most vendors here have IMMENSE amounts of freedom in their jobs. Microsoft hires people that present an air of trustworthyness. They want to be able to hire people, assign them a task, and be confident that the person they hired will be able to complete the task in the most efficient and responsible way possible.
In reference to this article that obviously did not happen. Somebody was entrusted with a certain amount of authority and they misused it. Please realize that Microsoft as a company is not some huge evil organization out to rape your wallets. They are regular people who want to, like anyone else, do the best job they can.

Hordes of rabid, self-described "elite open-source programmers" unable to properly keep their Windows-based PC's free of spyware, viruses. Experts attribute this to the fact that they spend all day downloading random.iso files from Russian serial/crack sites hoping to find a new Linux build that they haven't installed/reformated over on their ancient Pentium Pro machine.
You realize this is caused by them getting sued over so many frivolous reasons right? This is them trying to make, out of the gate, a version that is suitable to every person/organization out there so they don't have companies/the EU/tinfoil space aliens trying to sue them for bundling software.
I'm not just going to sit around the office and put up with this anymore. I'm writing my local TV stations and newspaper. I also have a friend who did some campaign organization for Kerry up here around Seattle and I'll see if there is anything she can do to help organize something going against this. I'm also interested in the possibility of a Public Broadcast TV news show that reports on all types of issues like this that normally get back-burnered by pointless stories like that whole Aruba waste of time.
I've been using WinXP pro since pre-launch, on multiple computers, with several hardware upgrades, and have never, ever, had a single BSOD. Could you Linux addicts please come up with something new to bash on Windows with other than Kernel32 era bsod insults?
Seriously, for people that claim to know Linux inside & out and be extremely bright IT professionals, if you can't keep WinXP running smoothly then your knowledge is seriously lacking.
All of this would have been caught during internal testing to ensure compatability. This is one of many reasons I will never switch to Linux despit all the zombie-esque devotion to it I see on this site.
Seriously, why don't we just rename/. LinuxFark jr.?
I'm ready to start taking action. I'm ready for civil disobediance, public demonstration and if it comes to it even more drastic action. Actually, I think I just might contact the UW campus and see if I can arraneg a demonstration here in downtown Seattle in the next couple of weeks.
Really people, get over it. Hey,Windows has it's uses and strengths just as Linux does, and Mac, and everything else out there running a computer somewhere. It's a toolbox, and you pick the right tool for the job. Do you go around making fun of the screwdriver all day because it's not effective at hammering in nails? No, you grab a hammer.
So far these have been the least intelligent responses to scientific matter I believe I have ever see on slashdot. If this were anything related to YRO, linux or windows the people would be busting out certifications & degrees in bunches, but the recorded creation of a blackhole, all we get is poorly constructed sexual innuendo. Fantastic.
From Slashdot, news for nerds to OpenSource Ego Boost? An open source graphics card? Why? Not everything related to computers needs to be open source or have linux on it. I bet one of you is out there right now trying to think of a way to put linux on a power drill.
I work at the Starbucks headquarters in Seattle, and I just bring a single sandwhich to work with me every day for lunch. Suits me just fine. I'm done eating quick enough I can spend my lunch hour on more productive things, like fuseball or taking a nap.
I always hate how aprtment complexs always try to tell people that only one type of broadband service is available in their buildings. Liek where I live now, they told me I would have to go through Qwest. Meaning I would have to have Qwest phone service plus shitty Qwest DSL. Instead I called Speakeasy, had Covad come out and install some sort of bypass so I dont' need a phone line, and now i have 6mbit down 768 up with tons of extras for $100 a month, and I can resell the bandwidth on a wireless access point. Screw telcos.
This says it all as far as I'm concerned.

Batman can defeat any opponent as long as he has time to prepare.
I just can't squeeze any blood from this stone!
Lame anti-Microsoft jokes and Linux praise.

How many of the books will the movie be covering? Is it the whole story, or just the first book?
Why do you people want to put linux on everything under the sun?
Anyone with a Business 2.0 subscription want to re-post the article?(oh noes piracy)

My response to Schiavo: Paging Dr. Kavorkian. Dr. Kavorkian to the vegetable ward please.
I can see this edition being purchased as a site license for schools(government agencies maybe as well?) or small businesses that are anti-piracy.
