I work for Canadian Radio-Televison Telecommunications Canada and to be honest with you(dirty confession), we are a Windows shop. I tried to get away with using Virtual box and was promptly spanked. I'm curious how/why Environment Canada went about using FOSS. Is it a requirement due to some specialized software? We are using web-based(intranet) tools for our work and a little Excel(simple work)/Exchange. I cringe most mornings when I have to login to my Windows machine. Any suggestions?

You're missing the major point. But before I tell you the point, I'll give you some of my credentials. I work for a major server security solutions company. We host over 350 servers, each one of those has about 3 VM's. I'm in charge of monitoring/maintaining those servers, ie. I'm senior admin. We have the HIGHEST prices anywhere in Quebec, Canada. Want to know why? Too bad, I'm telling you anyways... we have the BEST bandwidth, uptime and service that money can buy. We don't sell our customers 1000000GB bandwidth because they don't need it and we don't have it. We aren't like those other providers that anticipate that they're customers will never even use 1% of what we sell them.. we sell our customers what they need. Thats why companies like Dreamhost can survive; they offer ridiculous amounts of everything and count on you NOT to use it. And thats a fact.

Let's take off hardware because you dislike overclocking and the likes... next we'll drop any internet related topic because that might be a tad overwhelming for you. And with that, we have games and rights... let's drop games because they might be a little too fancy for you. Lastly, your rights... you don't care about rights, you want something to work and that's it. You don't want to have to vote, eat, bathe, or do anything beyond living. Man, you've got it good. Now you can go do something other than read /. I am so tired of people complaining about what the /. editors post. If you don't like it, go read another news source. AHHH... I feel better now.
