Look at it this way: at least he'll be able to get a fishing job when he gets out. That's better than his other classmates, who won't be able to get jobs at all.
Back in the 80's in the U.S. (and well into the 90's), Apple basically dominated the primary and secondary schools (school for ages 5-18). Every school I went to (and I moved around a lot) had Apple II's and Mac's exclusively. I was in college before I saw my first PC.
Apple worked very hard to sell themselves to the education market back in those days and would even basically "bribe" schools and districts with special side deals for employees. No one called it a "monopoly" back then (they way they try to with Windows now) but it was basically the exact same kind of stuff that MS does today.
My favorite quote under "Tips for Avoiding a Sexual Harrassment Complaint," "Step 1: Be Handsome." I think Chris Rock used to do a comedy bit on this too, something along the lines of "Sexual harassment is when an ugly guy tries to get some."
Reminds me of that old Saturday Night Live skit where the geeky guy got accused of sexual harassment when he tried to even talk to a woman but the handsome jock was just "flirting" when he showed up in just his underwear.
My college did have places where you could go and learn social skills. We called them "fraternities." One of them sure taught me a lot about dealing with people (and not just how to shotgun a beer either--though that was a useful skill in its own way).
I've never had the courage to publicly admit to being a "Wings" fan before. But you sir have inspired me to admit my love for that much-maligned and admittedly cheesy TV show.
When every member of your board of directors lives on an island full of obsessive technophiles, it's hard to get them to understand that not everyone in the world wants to spend all their money buying new TV's and the latest fad gadgets every year.
Seriously, anything that can get some more decent exclusives for Sony is a good thing. I bought my PS3 two years ago hoping for a lot. And so far I've used it mostly as a blu-ray player only. Metal Gear Solid 4 was good, as was Warhawk (Little Big Planet is supposedly cool too, but I haven't played it). But, other than that, it's mostly ports of games that end up looking and playing better on the cheaper Xbox 360 (and it doesn't help that I like Xbox Live and the Xbox controller better too). As a big fan of Second Life, I even had high hopes for Playstation Home. But even that ended up being a huge disappointment.
First of all, MS had recently partnered with them, so it's silly blame them. Secondly, it's silly to blame Intel too, because it wasn't Intel that killed them off, it was the economy.
OLPC is just one of MANY charities that's going under right now. OLPC depended on donations, and the money simply isn't there to donate when people are getting hit with paycuts, job losses, and stock losses. And on the scale of importance (homeless shelters, food banks, and medical aid being at the top), giving laptops away was always pretty near the bottom of the charity list. And even the most basic charities are getting pounded right now.
That's fine if you just want to light up the ground directly below the light. But most streetlights also help provide light to the road ahead and behind, the area behind it, the area up the hill beside it, etc., etc. Streetlights aren't spotlights, they're meant to illuminate an entire area. And I agree with the GP, city lights provide safety, which is way more important than some junior astronomer's right to see the Milky Way clearly.

Warning: Yes, this includes politicians in YOUR party too!
It makes *YOU* sad? Try being an American and having to watch it happen just because a slight majority chooses to elect demagogue shitheads.
A poem in a FRENCH statue, no less.

Will their be a montage sequence where the nerd(s) pulls it together in the build-up to a showdown? You've gotta have a montage sequence!
Only if the cop waits patiently while they stop and put the wings on.

On the downside, they had to interact with the Irish.

I guess between 5 and 6 wherever your main audience happens to be.

Quit your whining. Try going to SC. More unemployment AND even more fucking heat in the summers.
Sounds like someone needs to read the article "How to Stop Being an Overly Sensitive Girl Gamer"
Almost all of the 1up staff got laid off too.
We should hold a jam concert to protest those hippies! We'll show them that we're not going to take their shit, by using the power of music!
