If I'm not mistaken NVidia provides an app to configure your displays in X. Check NVidia's website where you downloaded the drivers from. It's been a while, but from what I remember all you do is plug in the second display, run the app as root, and point and click the appropriate configuration options.

Note the caveat here is that whatever X desktop you're using has to support multiple displays.

It has zero to do with programmer competency and everything to do with API choices. If your game is programmatically tied to Windows, odds are it will not be ported.

Yup. You know the difference? There are major import taxes on cars coming in to the country from overseas. That's why if you're driving a Honda it was built in the US. It's also why if you're driving a VW there's a 90% chance it was built in the US. The government saw a major industry that was being hurt by foreign competition and took measures to stop it.

The difference here is that the software industry is being hurt by offshoring and the government is encouraging it with tax breaks for companies moving development overseas. We are losing high paying jobs and telling highly educated people that the solution is to go back to college.

The only light at the end of this tunnel is that most companies are discovering that offshore development is more of a PITA than it's worth. I know a guy that actually has a successful business just doing damage control on software 'developed' overseas.

The guy that came out spent a few hours going through all potential sources of the interference until is was fixed. Actually it was kind of funny as the first thing he did was switched out the box. The problem was still there so he proceeded to systematically replace every component between the incoming feed and that room. After two hours the problem was still there with all pristine gear going to that room. So he switched out the box for a third one. The box was the problem, the first replacement box was bad too ;-)

From that sentence it looks like the original post certainly stated coming back.

My argument is quite simple. If you choose to go to India to find a job, don't plan on ever coming back, unless you want to start from square one economically. This is based on experience and knowing people that have worked in India. You will not earn enough money working in India to save and come back with any kind of reasonable nest egg to provide for yourself back in the US.

Now if you don't want to come back, then yes you might be able to expatriate and live quite comfortably. Personally I've talked to too many people that have actually lived in India to have any desire to do so myself.

I am using India in my examples becasuse that is the region I have personal knowledge of. I make no claims for any other region, as I simply don't have enough information to make any informed statements.

As for being for or against globalism, it's a moot point. It IS happening.

No one should be forced(economically) to do something he doesn't like because he doesn't have a choice(due to the economy).

Great concept in theory. If you can come up with a way to make it work in practice let all of us know. Hell, let the whole world know, as it it'd be great.

The problem being that this is not possible. Wage rates in India etc. are LOW compared to the western world. There is no way to go and work in Idia and save and come back to the west.

The whole reason India is a high-growth area is there are reasonably well educated people that will work cheap. That's the whole reason US firms are outsourcing there, you can pay an Indian much less to do the same job than a comparably educated American.

Ok, let's face it, there IS NO JAVA TRAP.

Java is an open specification. The libs are open specifications. Just because the FSF hasn't been able to finish an implementation doesn't mean it can't be done.

Stallman's argument about libraries being required to conform to the specs if they're publicly available is also a load of crap. Basically it only applies if YOU CLAIM TO IMPLEMENT THE API. In other words, don't claim to be J2EE compliant until you actually are. There is nothing stopping anyone from starting a project and saying "Out goal is to build a system fully compliant with API x." and developing it. The only restriction is you can't claim to be API x compliant until you are. That's a real hardship, being required to actually support the feature set you claim to.

I'm sorry, I develop in Java (in addition to C, C++, Perl, and PHP) and I like to know that if something says it complies with specification X that it actually does.

Also, as a side note, Java is not going anywhere. SAP, Oracle, and IBM have too much of an investment to let Java die. Sun could declare bankruptcy tomorrow and IBM would buy the technology tomorrow, guaranteed.

There were several other products on the market that allowed someone to request help, but iServe was the first to allow a rep to approach a customer.
