    My reasons for wanting to do so are:

    1. Flash is a performance hog on platforms that aren't win32.
    2. With H264 it will be easier to download youtube content for safekeeping.
    3. H264 has hardware acceleration in a lot of portable devices.

    I think the register is a great read. Yes some of its articles can be a bit vitriolic at times, or maybe even hastily written, but the opinion columnists are always enjoyable and many of their articles are far more in depth and what you expect when you think "tabloid" or "red top".

    OSX has all the usual programming language suspects built in, and as for a synaptic clone, try fink or mac ports.

    Yeah I've got iTunes running about the same. It could have double or treble that amount to be honest and I wouldn't mind. I've got 4 GB of RAM if one of my apps wants to use it to bring me more features that's fine by me.

    Sounds like they need to sort themselves out. I get TV about 3 hours after it has finished broadcasting. By using an RSS feed the shows download automatically. Check out the pricing at http://blocknews.net/ if you are interested in paying per GB (it goes as low as $0.09 per GB) if you want pay per month unlimited then http://supernews.com/ is cheapest at $9.99 per month. Both have around 400+ days retention.

    Most blu ray rips on usenet have the subtitles in the file, toggle on or off in the player. It's one of the benefits brought on by MKV.

    Lets you have a bunch of audio and subtitle tracks in a single file, meaning your DVD or Blu Ray rips can have subtitling or audio commentaries embedded right in the file.
