I really enjoy my work at Xoxide Modifications. While I'm doing more technical stuff for them, the guys in managment and guys doing the physical work are all highly competent. I especially enjoy being able to help find better ways of doing things in all areas of the company, not just technical stuff since my input is always appreciated. Plus we have some kick ass modded cases =)
I was looking at Drexel for college either next year or the year after (depends on if I can graduate early). I was wondering what the different tracks (IT/Software Engineering/CS/CE) are like. If you have time I'd be interested in your oppinions of them. Thanks.
It's like the "import tuner" mags promoting the notion that front-wheel drive (japanese only, of course) cars with 1.6L engines are great for drag racing while reverizing about the mythical (never existed) woebegone "japanese supercar" (primarily the toyota camry with turbos and different body known as Supra).
While I agree that riced out civics and the like are complete shit, the Supra is an actual sportscar. It has nothing to do with the Camry, the Camry is a FWD car with an I4 or V6(140 or 200HP), while the Supra is RWD and uses an I6, with optional Twin Turbos (225 or 320HP). If you were to compare the Supra to any Toyota product it would have to be the Lexus SC300/400 which are based on the Supra's platform (and the SC300 uses the Supra's non turbo I6). The Supra's engine is still being used in the IS300/GS300 and the car is still sold in Japan and well respected. Anyways, sorry for being off topic, but I didn't appreciate seeing a car that can do 0-60 in 5.2sec lumped in with thugish civics with bolt on wings and the Camry.
I don't tip because society says I gotta. I tip when somebody deserves a tip. When somebody really puts forth an effort, they deserve a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, that shit's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
The words "too busy" shouldn't be in a waitress's vocabulary.
So's working at McDonald's, but you don't feel the need to tip them. They're serving you food, you should tip them. But no, society says tip these guys over here, but not those guys over there. That's bullshit.
I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's fucked up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the governemnt shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to fuckin' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big fuckin' surprise.
Also some blatant Apple product placements as well. The 3 G4 towers at the end. And I think I saw a G3 Powerbook somewhere too. Overall I really liked the movie though.
DARE in my case simply equated all drug use as being the same as abuse. It also told us that drugs were equally bad, now I mean, most kids know that weed isn't as bad as say crack. We were told that weed would have us addicted the first time we ever tried it and that we would turn into losers and burnouts. I personally don't see a problem with softcore drug use in moderation, but DARE failed to make a distinguisment between the two. I'm sure many kids find that weed isn't really a bad drug, but they feel like DARE lied about everything, and then move into harder drugs. Though I will admit that even weed will get you in with the "wrong crowd" many times, and there's plenty of people who smoke too much as well.
DARE will never really be successful unless they are honest. If officer joe came in and told us that weed wouldn't kill you but it isn't good to do when you need to pay attention and to stay away from hardcore dealers maybe kids would get the message. I know plenty of people my age who responsibly use recreational drugs, and plenty who do too much when they need to be studying, etc. All in all, there needs to be more honesty and education. Most of what I've learned about drugs was online as there was no appropriate and unbiased education program in my school.
Also check out the D.A.R.E. node on everything2, its quite an interesting view on the issue.
I've got a big red office chair from cartwright which is perfect for long hours of working at the computer. I had gotten it for free from a company which was doing remodeling, but I believe it had cost about ~$700, but I'm sure there's cheaper things out there. The qualities of it which make it suited to such use(abuse?) are the fact that it is well padded, has wheels that roll smoothly, even over wires lying on the ground and that it can lean back which is important for relaxing. I think cloth is prolly more comfortable than leather, especially for extended use, as you don't want your ass to get stuck to your chair after hours of coding.
I have found the Poo-Chi to be superior to both the old AIBO and the new model. The Poo-Chi does not contain the complexity of the AIBO, which makes it walk slowly. The Poo-Chi is also a much better value, costing about $30. It allows full computer connection and fast walking, two things that the AIBO lack. Sony's AIBO may succeed in Japan where anything will sell, including soiled schoolgirl uniforms in vending machins (no, I'm not kidding), but the US is a much more conservative market when it comes to spending $2000.
Serial Experiments Lain and the matrix share several similar scenes as well, the first one I can think of is the traffic light changing in the scene where neo and morpheous are walking in the simulator. Each episode of lain starts off with a traffic light change which looks exactly the same...
You can get most Japan market laptops imported from Japan Palmtops Direct and Dynamism. They'll prolly have this model now or within a week or so. The only issues are that the Japan imports cost a lot and have Japanese subscripts on the keyboard.
Japan has all the latest MiniDisc recorders/players about 6mo-1year ahead of the US. All the buttons are in English, and instructions are usually in some english with diagrams easy enough to understand. Check out MiniDisco who imports Japan's latest models to the US for an idea of what to get, you'd prolly save by having your friend pick one up while he's there though. That, and schoolgirl uniforms/porn, if you're into that sort of thing.
Um, if you haven't noticed I *used* to be an insightful member of the/. community. Unfortunatley that community now sucks. I'm trying to blow all my karma on moronic trolls like the one I did above, though I'm not having much success losing all the karma.
NASA is against our personal freedoms! In one interview, NASA President Larry Flynt is reported as saying:
When we send those stupid people up in space, the US has no jurisdiction any longer, and we can do anything we like! This will result in turning early space travellers into slaves for our gravity-free factories
As you can see, being involved in the space program can be quite dangerous. Before you all ask "Does it run Linux?", you should think to yourself, "Should it be running at all". The USSR's space program, with actual successes like Mir, unlike NASA's empty promises, is the right space program to be involved with.
Actually when I talked to him at LinuxWorld last fall, he seemed to be expressing disagreement with the Liberterian party's viewpoints on wealth distribution and said that the USCP (United States Communist Party) fit his views better. Not to say that all Open Source advocates are communist, but a good portion are, and if you want to be associated with that type of activity then by all means continue using Open Source. However if you are not interested in being associated with communist ideals, then other licensces which I had described earlier may fit you better.
Open Source is just a veiled term for communism. The Open Source advocates are mostly closet communists who enjoy writing propaganda. Red Had is a symbol of Red Russia, or the Mother Volga, both symbols of communism. Notice that if you turn your head sideways, the redhat logo looks like the sickle of the Communist Russian flag. This is not a coincidence to say the least. ESR is a proud supporter of the USCP and RMS is right behind him (in more ways than one). I feel that people should write software, release it, and if someone uses it in a way you don't like, you should kick their ass. Not go and get a lawyer kick their ass, but physically track them down and fight, even to death. This is the method of software licensing called Fighting Source, it has been successful for several products recently, but I don't know their names because I'd get my ass beat for mentioning them.
This program sounds like a great idea! I've been searching for pictures containing women's areolas quite often, but this program will let my computer find them on its own. My days of surfing thehun.net, asianthumbs.org and all are over! Slashdot, thank you for the incredibly interesting article on software that can distinguish nipples from regular skin, thereby getting rid of gigabytes of unnecessary pictures of women who are covering these areas. This is a major paradigm shift in the field of AI design. I have tested this program, and it works wonders, it seems to make my pants feel tight for some odd reason though...

No, I was implying that Matrix ripped off Lain...but its definetly got a good deal of original content.
Serial Experiments Lain and the matrix share several similar scenes as well, the first one I can think of is the traffic light changing in the scene where neo and morpheous are walking in the simulator. Each episode of lain starts off with a traffic light change which looks exactly the same...

Thanks...must go watch Office Space again...must go watch...
What am I going to do with 30 subscriptions to VIBE???
heh, I've grown sick of /., so now I'm just trying to troll/burn karma, much more fun than coming up with bullshit to post :)
