I recently received a Quicksilver. It is a 867MHz G4 Mac. It was fairly loud when I first received it. But after replacing the large 120mm case fan and the 60mm processor fan, it was a lot quieter. Some duct tape over odd holes... and noise is down 45%. However it was never as loud as my mom's P4. That P4 is so loud you can hear it through 5 walls. It's pretty bad.
Typing this on a silent PowerBook. It's the rare day when the fans go on with this thing...
Soft metal? Aircraft-grade aluminum isn't soft. PowerBooks are very durable. When you drop them, they get small dents. But when you drop a plastic PC laptop, it cracks and then you're screwed. I've seen PowerBooks that have been beat to hell and still work.
You can enable an Open Firmware password which will not allow the computer to start up off of any other drive then set when the password was unless you enter the password.
It works quite well. A box with a lock symbol appears and you just type the password into the box. Then you are able to enter FireWire target disk mode, choose a boot device, etc.
Actually, many senior citizens I work with like Firefox. It makes their computer quite a bit easier to use (no more AdAware, etc) and it is very fast on dialup. However, they can't see as well as they used to. This is their major complaint.
First thought it might be used in Israel. There has been, after all, a lot more terrorism there than in Iraq and for quite a bit longer. But I don't think so. This requires a full weapon loadout. A soldier needs to be able to have their rifles ready at a seconds notice. The IDF wouldn't use this aside from specialist forces because their troops need to be able to swap a magazine and have rubber bullets. It is far harder to swap weapons in a moments notice.
Even though the Mac Mini has the power consumption as a P4 (yes, the computer and yes, the chip) companies still won't buy it. Because... they are stupid. Always. The Dells are the cheapest possible, and that is the final word. No matter if they cost 5x as much as the other computers to operate, that isn't in their budget. They just got their order of computers in on-budget... let someone else explain why heating isn't needed anymore and why the energy bill doubled.
"i" stands for "internet", which the first iMac was touted to be able to connect to in just a few minutes. It became so well known that Apple used it on other products.
"Power" stands for the higher-end market. PowerBook and PowerMac are the top end computers, whereas the iMac and iBook are the lower end computers.
"e" stands for education. The eMac was an education-only design but the public demand was so great Apple introduced it as a consumer computer.
Once an OS gets a decent amount of apps written for it, it's nearly impossible to leave it.
OS X was a nice difference between the old (OS 9) and the new (OS X). My friend deleted the Classic environment from his computer, because he never used it. I still keep mine around. It is a great way to maintain backwards compatibility but still allow for the future.
Instant Wake from Sleep. Featured on Macs for at least 6 years. Works like a charm. My iMac G4 hit a 54 day uptime once. Instead of shutting down, I just go to sleep. Works great.
I wasn't going to reply until I read, "Macs has its share of problems as well."
Macs are computers... did you mean, "They have their share of problems as well"? Because yes, that is true. However, quite a number of fewer issues than Linux or Windows.
You could also have meant Apple instead of Macs, seeing as that would correct the grammar issue and prove true as well.
And reason is because Windows is the dominant operating system. There are not a few major OSs. Just one. And, grammatically, an alternative is another choice. So, an alternative to a Mac might be Windows or Linux. An alternative to Linux could be FreeBSD or a Mac. Basically, you're right. Linux is an alternative to both.
Tiger is, for one, Macintosh only. The whole Intel thing isn't for another year, and even then, only for Apple-branded computers. It is even in the EULA-- you cannot install Apple's Mac OS X on non-Apple branded hardware.
Or what about Israel, how many different nations want to nuke them?? And how would foriegn policy of Israel be different if the palestinians had Nukes? Would the Israeli government treat them any better?
Israel is surrounded by a number of countries less than friendly. Syria for example. Iran. Lebanon. Israel has been attacked by chemical weapons before by the countries above but death and injury was limited due to the fact that every single person had a gas mask, knew how to use it, as well as a properly sealed room in their house. Israel has actually developed anti-SSBN devices that work, because there is too much to loose.
And Israel does quite a bit to help Palestinians. Yasser Arafat was nice enough to keep refugees in camps, turning their life into hell, and then turning them into members of the intifada. Nice guy, really. A number of Palestinians are quite happy with Israel. However the ones on the news are the ones you hear about. http://www.honestreporting.com/ is a good link to see for more information on my points. A good first article to check out should be this one.
Plus their server has never been Slashdotted:-p
If the nuclear bomb hadn't been invented, then after WWII, what would have stopped the US and the USSR from going all-out? Nothing really. But with the threat of "We die together" (aka, Mutually Aassured Destruction) the Cold War started.
This may include providing a security update through the monthly release process or issuing a security advisory, depending on customer needs," she added.
That's what I want. Patches on your schedule.
RDC is actually very good. Sound, color, etc. I've used VNC and even over a high-speed connection I had to turn colors down, etc. Whereas RDC never needed me to turn down the colors. Plus it actually shows what your pointer looks like, not some little dot thing.
So before you bash RDC, see if you can learn something from it first.

PowerBooks aren't soft by any means...

When is MSN Virtual Moon coming out? Virtual Mars?
It was because the 3 Minis use ~60W of power each? Also, the Minis are really light. Weight and power-savings might have influenced their decision.
Doesn't is suck to be one of their pwn3ds?
It allows you to run various Linux software under OS X. Native. Just requires X11, but that's an install-time option which can be added later.
Linux is only free if your time is worthless.
Respect your elders! They like OSS too!

It also plays Solitaire, right? And FreeCell?
It also plays Solitaire, right? FreeCell? Any card game?
You have that memorized, didn't you?

I think that may be the point... hey, isn't this just stolen Windows help-file code?

Well, that was more than I planned to write.
I just updated the hacks on my site so they run if IE 6 or IE 7 is detected!
