I think it's good for Charlie. Charlie's one of the better interviewers out there (he's no Bill Moyer, but still), he asks not only the tough questions (who doesn't, everyone does), but the thought-provoking ones as well, and usually is able to get people saying interesting things for long periods of time. The only problem is, he LOVES to interrupt them, it's one of his very favorite things to do. You can tell that it's not because he isn't listening, but because he's incredibly into the conversation... still, it can be annoying as hell. He's improved about 400% since his heart surgery, however. I guess almost dieing puts some perspective into keeping your ears open and keeping your mouth shut... ...maybe I need to have heart surgery one of these days.

There's the problem, you're using the most up-to-date computer there is. It shouldn't require a super computer to run a word processor. That was one of the main reasons I hated Microsoft Office in the first place, and loved OO. If I can run Adobe InDesign, with its high-level font handling and graphic manipulation (which I can), why should I have lag with a lowly word processor?

"Use a faster computer" is not a good arguement for the quality of a WORD PROCESSOR.

Yes, but you're probably not a die-hard FPS and hack&slash fan, are you? I'm not. When I play Counterstrike, I kinda, subconciously, except the fact that everyone around me is a good bit better than me. So when I end up dieing a lot, I'm frusterated, but not in the same way a die-hard FPS player would get on a bad day.

Also, this is not about the momentary hightening of aggressive tendancies after a particular game. We all know about that. Immediately after playing F-Zero or Excite Truck (especially), my driving sucks (ie: I have to concentrate a lot harder to not hit people). I think a lot of us have felt this once in a while (most of the people I've talked with have). But what we're talking about is a long-term, overall hightened aggressiveness that comes from constantly batting with yourself and others in video games.

  10. Wii Heresey on Mixed News for Nintendo, Microsoft · · Score: 1, Funny

Hello, I'm here to tell you about a threat to our way of life. This heinious trend will inevitably turn all of our children over to the clutches of Satan, and send our great nation spiraling into entropia. I am, of course, speaking of the Nintendo Wii. This is video gaming, as God never intended. The Wii will most likely destroy the video game industry as we know it, turning meaningful crusades like F.E.A.R and Crackdown into fun... and enjoyable entertainment. This must be stopped, at all costs.

But what can you do to prevent it? Here are a number of tips:

    1) Spread the word by catering to the adolecent fear that the Wii is a childs toy. Obviously, this is not true, but it will eat at the soul of any person between the ages of 12-18. "You don't want to remain boys forever, do you? Then stop playing with your Wii!"

    2) LET THE WORLD KNOW! Let the world know that the Wii is a threat to our God-given way of life. For God is kind and good... and the Wii is shitty and white.

    3. Make Zonk pay. Did you know that Zonk is actually spelled L-U-C-I-F-E-R? Well, it is. He's the devil, and he spreads his heretical message far and wide. Make sure he can not get a word in edge wise by picking apart his every sentance. Only the pure crusader can curb his demonic message

    4) Spur ideological discussion on how our fine, under-achieving game developers will be swollowed into the maelstrom of bedlam if Nintendo is able to continue; continue it's satanic tyrade of developing better games, at the expensive of others. This will confuse idiots, easilly, and throw the more knowledgable off, at least throw them off enough to get a few more jabs at Zonk.

In closing, use your head, but not too much, as knowledge is the gateway to hell, and the gateway to hell, as we all know, is the Wii. Be irrational, spontanious, and do not be afraid to be utterly obnoxious. For this is a crisis bigger then ourselves, and it must be stopped. As the penis must be stopped from entering the bowel, the Wii, too, must be stopped from seducing our young people, and our elderly, from the temptations of evil.

    Thank you, and good luck.

I think its kinda dangerous to assume that he's stupid, because you fail to realize just how much of a cold, calculating demon he is. I use Firefox on my PowerBook, I love it. But to be honest, MacOS X already has an [almost]-Firefox-quality web browser at its disposal already. For this reason, it's not as imparative that it be as top-notch as its PC counterpart.

Seriously, there's only three reasons I use Firefox over Safari:
    - the "type to search" system in Firefox is unholy goodness
    - allowing the addressbar to be "programmed" to search various sites via keywords is amazing
    - plugins (of which I find myself not using very many of)

These are three great little features, but they're neither central nor paramount to the usability of a web browser. As for rendering quality, accuracy, and speed, the two are practically on par. Safari even has one major advantage over Firefox... its look and feel, and the robustness of its UI is MUCH better. I'm currently running a number of themes and plugins in Firefox to make the browser look and act like Safari, because I think its UI is far superior.

I'm forced to use IE at work, which makes me wanna vom, in comparison. Mac users don't really NEED Firefox, okay? It's nice for Mac users to support the platform in order to get PC users away from IE, but I wouldn't feel guilty, in the slightest, for ditching Firefox for Safari.

No, not at all, especially since a fair number of the FF13 titles are not PS3 exclusives (if even PS3 compatable at all). Even the central title's exlusivity is under question. Square-Enix is NOT married to Sony, they never have been. The closest that can be said is that they ran away from Nintendo for a few years, and Sony was their best substitute at the time being.

Just because their names both begin with "S" and they're both Japanese, doesn't mean that they really have any interest in the other's independant success.

I'll still stand by the fact that FF12 had pretty crappy graphics. I'd take Tales of Symphonia, a cellshaded, mid-gen GameCube title, over FF12 any day in terms of cleanliness and polish. There's a difference between "great graphics" and "polished graphics", and FF12s is less than polished. When objects suddenly pop into view at about 50ft, and textures suddenly shift resolution intermitantly, you know you've got an ugly game... FF12 may have been a great game, but it was ugly as sin. My problem with the PS2s graphics are not that they didn't allow for a lot of different effects (they did), but they took a "jack of all trades, master of none" approach, in which ALL the graphics looked very mediocre. This was mostly due to an outragious lack of smoothing.

I really could care less about fancy shader effects, high polygon count, or high resolutions, but as long as a platform doesn't allow a game to look clean and polished, that's going to get in the way. I don't feel that a single game on the PS2 looked completely polished. Even Shadow of the Collosus, which many go on and on about how pretty it was... yes, the design was great, but the system just didn't allow it to breathe fully, it still looked pixelated and had major slowdown problems. I'd rather take WarioWare style graphics, any day, if it can be made to feel more polished. And I really think few games on the GameCube didn't look polished.

I just played the PS3 version of Need For Speed Carbon the other day at Fred Meyers, and to my dismay, I got that very same unpolished feeling. I was seeing perpendicular line jaggies, uneven edges, and everything I remember hating about the PS2s graphics... it was just in HD with some prettier lighting effects. I looked over at a Wii playing the Twilight Princess open, and it looked cleaner.

I can't be sure that the TV wasn't malfunctioning, but currently, I'm really not convinced that the PS3s graphics are anywhere as capable as the 360s. And as long as Sony insists on not pushing developers into making polished looking games (one thing I've always appreciated about Nintendo), I dunno if I'm ever going to like them as much as 480p Wii graphics.

Well, what do you suggest then? Since Sony has already let on that S-E is seriously considering pulling its exclusivity. This is not anyone's imagination or dream, this is real. It doesn't mean it IS going to happen, but that there's a real, and documented possibility of it happening.

So what's it going to be? 360, Wii, or PC?

You're wrong about the graphics, btw. FF12 was just released on the PS2, a system with about 1/5 of the graphical power of the Wii, and it did really well. FF7 had terrible graphics for its time, FF12 had terrible graphics for its time, and FF1-5 had terrible graphics for their time. The only ones that were at the top of their game were FF8, FF9, and FFX. The series is popular because of the quality of the whole, not because of the graphics. RPG fans have much less interest in graphics than you give us credit for. The Wii is completely capable of handling the next FF game. Hell, if FF12 had been ported to the GameCube/Wii, it would have looked 3x as good, but we settled for the POS graphics we got on the PS2 (although I was kinda put off... after playing Twlight Princess, it was pretty painful).

Your guess is probably just as good as anyone elses. Mine goes something like this:

Square has pulled the exclusivity for FF13 (proper) and will port it to 360, Wii, and PC (this is very ecconomical for an RPG developer, since RPG developement is about 95% in design, which will be identical across the board). The game will be held back until all four versions are complete, and quite possibly Versus 13, 13 Agito, and maybe one of the other ones will come out first, as teasers.

Some of this will be announced in about 3 weeks at the Square conference.
