I gave up my windows partition long ago and will never go back, thanks in large part to WINE, Cedega, and you guys. You have my eternal appreciation. The only time I see that damn logo is now in a VM and as rarely as I can manage. Somehow life seems just a little more peaceful.

As to the article's content. Yes Setting up a game is a bitch. Finding out what WINgames work under what conditions (Install on windows and copy directory/copy CD/NOCD crack/Registry Entries/etc....) can be excruciating. Every couple of months you have to check them again. (Please when we do this record it at the varios compatability db wikis)

Is that more or less painful than living with windows? Subjective, but as a developer/sysadmin/engineer/father it is far less painful to play/dl/buy Linux friendly games only. While constantly checking my vast library for new compatability.

    Some? For a while?
Surely you have seen this before
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

How can you give up inalienable rights? Which ones, and for how long? You don't know nor are you allowed to know when or which rights the government is stepping all over. If you give them the power, they WILL use it (and abuse it!)

I don't know why everyone feels the government will be listening to EVERY phone call that gets made anywhere in America. Its just not possible to monitor them all. They monitor incoming international calls from certain people and outgoing international calls to certain people. They aren't listening to you talking to your grandma and could care less about that.

So you are comfortable with a small handful of Government Heads selecting which calls/emails/IMs/Mail get monitored. What if my grandma is running for office or works at a university or is a broadcaster with differing views from the current administration. Is it still just as unlikely? (Considering she died 2 years ago, This would be some trick.)

Also the ACLU standing up and demanding that all prisoners of war, regardless of what they did be released if the evidence against them is not made public.

You mean due process, Speedy trial, the right to face your accuser and evidence against you, access to a lawyer, that stuff? Without these things you are just kidnapping people from their native lands and holding them indefinately. If you want to prosecute them, do so. Under the Laws of the United States and the Geneva Convention you are not allowed to detain people indefinately and treat them inhumanely. ACLU is an acronym for American Civil Liberties Union. They fight for OUR civil rights, and they do a bit more than protecting the one concerning Seperation of Church and State.

The ACLU has a hard enough time in the current atmosphere without chuckleheads like you volunteering to give up their rights.

BTW the easiest way to give up your rights is to emigrate. I hear Sudan is temperate this time of year.

These results are for 2006 only. PS3 will not even have enough units to match xbox360 sales thus far this year. Wii is the new tickle me elmo and will sell like mad. 2007 PS3 may take 2nd spot. Expect price wars in March to June. 2008 may even move PS3 up to 1st. (Linux platform of choice?)

MS did what they had to do to get the numbers to beat Sony this year. Nintendo did what they had to do to get profits and hype up this year. Sony has done damn near everything wrong that you could imagine (Almost as if they hired old Sega execs).

I have read as many of his essays, code, speeches, interviews, emails as I come across. After much careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that rms does/says/writes these things because he believes he is trying to stop the inevitable result of the proprietary model.

In the beginning he alone was trying to stop it. He built a foundation, a following, a suite of software, a philosophy all based on one principal FREEDOM(s). He champions these freedoms where ever he can and he is resolute and unshakable. You may disagree with him all you like. But to say he is irrelevant is a bit of a stretch. His foundation has copyrights to an assload of GPL'd code. That alone makes him relevant.

I believe his views are correct as far as they concern Proprietary software, DRM and Free speech. I use proprietary software, hell I even write a little. About the only differences in our software related ideology is I like the terms open source and free software. I prefer free, but will settle for open.

The Forbes article is a anything but journalism. Opinion Editorial page material at best, maybe. But it is a business oriented magazine. Is free software good for business? Depends on the business, doesn't it? Is RMS good for business? In no way can that arguement be made. GPL3/Linux issues aside. RMS deserves his place of honour among the IT pantheon of GNODS. If you doubt this, you need to read more.

To Richard, Thanks. If ever you are in Central Florida drop me a line, dinner is on me. Keep it up, the more you piss them off the closer we are to winning.
