Let me ask you, what would you replace COBOL with?

I keep hearing "COBOL is dead", "COBOL IS NOT DEAD".
But if COBOL were to go, what could replace it?
Requirements would have to include: - performance (when processing millions of transactions) - reliability (both hardware & software base) - maintainability of code (easy for someone to take a program they never seen before, and make needed changes) - follows business logic - widely used
What annoys me, about itunes, is that its another service constantly running in the background.
The only one in my dad's house that uses itunes, is my stepsister, for her mini. and she only uses it on that computer like once pr. 2-3 months. Regardless of this. Itunes is always running and using resources when computer is turned on, regardless of which user is logged on.
It should only be nessesary to run the program for the user that installed it, and only when needed.
(that will have to be my only contribution to the discussion, since i've never used itunes).
Blogs are a huge thing in the capital, with sites like the drudge report having huge impact.
Anonymous political blogs often serves as whistleblower outlets. For Mr. Hastert to make an official blog, and actually post relevant political opinions must take some guts.
I've run novell netware servers for 9 years, and literaly NEVER had it crash. And after power outages, its never failed to come right back up online.
Its the only OS i have ever run that have never given me Guru Meditation/kernel panic / BSOD / filesystem corruption.
(and the opposite is just as true Stable company != Stable OS... just think of Windows)
Alot of journalism today is massproduced entertainment,
- Journalists that sit in an office, rewriting reuters news bulletins, with 24/7 live newsfeeds from all 25+ other news channels (if you think about it, they pretty much run a blog like slashdot, with all that implies, if you watch CNN for a couple of hours, its dupe after dupe after dupe, retelling the same story every 5-15 minutes)(i have a friend whom does exactly this for a MSM for a living)
- Dont be fooled, the mainstream media (MSM), are in the business of selling adds & selling subscribtions, that means telling the people what they want to hear, and keep shut about the stuff people dont want to hear about (fx. kids dying of hunger in 3rd world countries, because constant exposure to that would make the viewers/readers feel bad... so they wish it away/out of sight.)
In the end, todays wired world is a constant flurry of events & occurances, and we trust journalists to filter the news/information that reaches us.
> Even the United States government would not be dumb enough to try to deploy a laser weapon in a medium that absorbs about 50% of the energy every meter it travels.
Maybe not, but now the US Navy needs new counter-dolphin weapons.
Way back in 1995 or 1996, my dad brought home a game made for Galaxo (Smith & Kline) (he works with kids). It was supposed to teach little kids that they had to use their inhaler at regular intervals.
I guess it could actually inspire small kids to use their inhalers.
But it was utter boring, with nothing new at all efter 2 minutes playing.
GMC Service: "Could you please reboot your car, we seem to be having problems connecting to it"
Customer: "You want me to what? how?"
GMC Service: "Well if you could just press play, skip and eject buttons on the cd player down at the same time, it should all be taken care off"
* Customer crashes horribly, when the power steering stops working for 30 seconds

The devices only cost around $5-6 now (if the bank orders a couple hundred thousands).
With the rise in fraud with online banking accounts, these devices are going to be implemented during 2009 (at the latest).
Microsoft would only need to change their slogan a little bit.
and thanks to all the programmers that have helped make Linux possible...
it really amazes me, that collaboration on such a massive scale is possible
and thanks to Microsoft for making software that makes the world go round.
I'd just like to thank my brother for being such a nice guy.
because hell has just frozen over
I know m0n0wall pretty well
How is XORP different?
(well obviously designed for very specific hardware, but is that a good thing?)
"D) Use results of "level up" to do A&B faster!"
No no! Use the results of "level up" to do A&B SLOWER.... because the higher level you get, the harder it gets to reach the next level.
SpamAssassin & Thunderbird heuristic learning, have been keeping my inbox 99,7% spamfree for the last 2 years.
Stupid as i am, i never realized that i have Microsoft to thank for it.

On the contrary, making a Risk clone has been obvious ever since the Google Maps API came out.
Actually i was more expecting these features in Civilization IV

This rare peek at the real group popularized by the James Bond series brought over 3.5 million visits in its first few opening hours on Wednesday.

Sounds to me as if this is a dupe, and its already been slashdotted
DUPE: "makes a general ass of itself." :)
