Why can't thepiratebay use "but Google is doing it too" as a defense for why aren't they suing the biggest player? I mean its like they are extorting the little guy who can't defend himself to prove a point instead of attacking Google which actually has the legal might to defend itself.
Disney fired their CEO and promoted the head of their Franchise making depart to be the new CEO. The new Disney model is merchandising. You can't make money on movies anymore and Disney knows this. What you can do is create an awesome two hour commercial and get all the kids to buy the merchandise. A physical product that can be protected, enforced, confiscated, etc. The future of Disney is free distribution of its digital media and then merchandise the hell out of it. Selling a parent a $20 DVD one time and having the parent resent you for it isn't making you money. Selling billions of princess toys, comforters, wall paper, bed sheets, t-shirts, etc is where the money is at.
It is costing the authors something. It is costing them server space, hosting fees, electricity and bandwidth. I have no problem paying a minimum fee to cover those costs of distribution. I don't like the myth of free internet content. I also don't like the idea of paying $1 for an iTunes song since those distribution costs are probably closer to $.05. iTunes songs at $0.25 and you've got a new customer and I'm sure other people would join at a $0.10 price point.
Currently digital publishers are pushing a physical price point model. What they don't realize is that if they lowered prices the increase in customers would more then cover the lower price of the product.
Privately owned toll roads.
Private or home schooling.
Highway robbers?
So you mean we couldn't manage without the government?
I mean we even launch space shuttles privately now. What do we need a government for? To tell us we can't drink until we're 21 even though they will ship us off and kill us at 18? To fine us if we don't wear a seat belt even though for nearly 100 years people drove in cars without them just fine. To put us in jail for growing a plant in our own backyard (with a federal minimum sentence of 5 years!). To buy trailers for people who built houses in a flood plane, even when the citizens in the surrounding counties (myself included) offered to have several families stay with them until they could rebuild.
Even well intentioned governments are oppressive and wasteful.
Doesn't that fall under "obvious". There are a lot of technologies that become obvious once the underlying technology is built. In this case once you have an internet isn't it obvious that you can connect anything to it to track information? Including vending machines, refrigerators, toasters, washing machines, etc.
I've had the free release candidate for a few months now. Here are my observations:
Boots really fast.
Snipping tool is awesome for tech support, you could buy a similar tool, but its 'free' with windows 7.
There are other improvements but those were my favorites.
The "Kill Handle" wouldn't help. I was watching 1000 ways to die on spike and death 629 was from an x-ray machine where the idiot operators kept hitting the button (accidentally) and fried the guy. Even with the "Kill Handle" in place repeated exposure adds up to an equivalent dose.
There is nothing wrong with the FED printing money. Money as a symbol of labor is not a bad system. What is wrong with the Fed is its ability to adjust interest rates, not to print money. As population grows and wealth increases more money needs to be printed. The value of money is based on how it barters against other goods, including foreign currencies. The FEDs role as a lender of last resort is where the FED is corrupt. Setting the interest rate to an absurdly low rate is where the FED is corrupt.
Why is everyone so concerned about keeping health records private? I understand keeping financials private, but health records? If you're sick it helps everyone to know it, it helps you get funds to pay for your ailment and if it is contagious keeps diseases from spreading. Clue me in please.

http://www.eff.org/helpout here is the link so people can help out the eff.
The key is the carriers.
Verizon has the largest network and subscriber base, but doesn't have any good smart phones.
T-mobile has the g1, but T-mobile is a horrible company.
AT&T has the iphone but it costs a fortune for service.
The key will be what smart phone takes hold on Verizon; currently it looks like it is going to be an android phone.
Verizon Wireless: 87.7 Million subscribers
AT&T Mobility: 79.6 Million Subscribers
Sprint: 49.3 Million subscribers
T-Mobile: 38.2 million subscribers
Personally I'm waiting for a phone similar to the G1 to be available on the Verizon network.
Well if Kryder's law holds then in 2042 we should have a 100PB iPod. Storing the data really isn't that hard anymore.
Is there something wrong with me if I was turned on by her in Exit to Eden?
Did you mean Mickey Mouse, or Mikey the guy from the cereal commercial?
I for one welcome our ancient moon dwelling aristocratic overlords.

God damnit, how do I break out of this loop!
Went to the site and viewed the submitted works.
I'm amazed there isn't a scene made from inside world of warcraft for this yet...
maybe a scene using flying mounts to simulate star ships?
maybe one of the lightsaber duels?

Gold is worthless.
Jericho was a great example of what really has value if a monetary system collapses. People don't need gold. They do need things like salt and fuel.
Gold is just as arbitrary as printed money. If things get real bad, barter.
If you are desperate enough you can open a can with your teeth.

Thanks for all the laughs!
So what you are saying is that it is a government problem, not an ISP problem...
I prefer "Change? Change? Spare some change?".
Wouldn't you find out her blood pressure using bluetooth or wifi? I mean its an electronic heart, don't you think it should be wifi enabled?
