It works for OS X! To be honest, I would be very frustrated without in-line spell checking in every app that all made use of the same dictionary. This is one of my problems with using email clients like mutt... I have to worry about an additional set of tools and dictionaries just to spell check my email.
A *good* trackball is a very precise input device. I can use my trackball to play FPS games without any frustration. I recommend the Kensington Expert Mouse (and ONLY the Kensington Expert Mouse). The large ball enables you to use it from many different angles, almost entirely eliminating any repetitive motion. The best solution for me was not to find the One Best Position(TM), but to find something that offered many so I could switch up at the first sign of fatigue.
. It's a human construct designed to make bits uncopyable. In the words of Bruce Schneier, it's akin to trying to make water not wet.
Money is a human construct designed to make paper worth an arbitrary amount. In the words of Gomer McGee, it's akin to trying to sell the hay for as much as the horse.
Oh please. You're telling me if you sat someone down in front of a computer before and told them to "show that thing they typed about foo", they'd say:
1) Well, okay... that thiing has words in it... I must need to open Microsoft Word! 2) OKay that thing I want to show is called a file. I have no idea how I could know it is called a "file" and not a "document" or "letter" or "paper" or anything else... I just do! Magically! 3) I know that in order to "show" something, I need to find the "open" command. Does it make any sense to "open" a piece of paper? No, of course not! But I know I have to do it, yes sir... and I know it is under file! 4) Okay so I've selected File -> Open from the "menu" (because I know they're called that, even though they don't list food on them! -- magically!!). Now I'll just navigate the file hierarchy...... You get my point. If you don't let me clarify: You're an ass.
As someone also on linux/ppc, I will disagree. Yes, Flash is often used for crap. However, they are some cool games and art pieces out there making use of flash and actionscripting. Now don't get me wrong -- I hate Flash from a developer perspective. It is crap. However... I also have wasted dozens of hours watching Homestar Runner.
And what, may I ask, is wrong with the media lab? They don't produce any useful products? So what? They're artists first, not engineers. To be honest, the media lab is exactly where I'd like to head once I get my BFA.
Crap. Max is being talked about in the same breath as Reaktor and Kontakt and Macromedia. I need to switch to something more advanced. This is embarrassing.
That's not the only reason. The iPod is the only mp3 player capable of driving many high-end headphones. Of course the same setting with a pair of cheap Sony headphones will deafen you in an hour...
That's a tough argument to win. Can I kill you and take your stuff, so long as I decide it's allowed by "my own" moral system?
What you can and can't do isn't decided by what you consider moral. It is decided by what everyone else considers moral. If I were gay and thought it was morally acceptable for me to get married... well... that doesn't mean I can.
I agree with you on the voting issue. However, most people don't vote because they're apathetic, NOT because they hate both choices. I completely respect someone who choses not to vote because of the reasons you mentioned. I myself only vote 3rd party (including last election).
I think you're drastically overestimating people in general. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying what we have now is good. What I am saying though is that I'm not convinced what you pose as a solution (with no evidence as to if it would actually work -- no theory or anything) is any better.
You assume everyone would be an ideal libertarian. The truth is, no more than 90% of the population will ever agree almost anything you put before them. Considering that there are hundreds of issues that really matter, and you have people disagreeing with each other about almost everything. I theorize that sometimes, to get things done and to keep order, you have to pick something and force everyone to go with it. No, it isn't some glorious idealistic notion, but I think that's what is necessary.
People aren't even well educated and caring enough to vote. I'm not convinced that given the opportunity to run things for themselves, they'd step up and do it. I think you're making the assumption that everyone want to be in control. In reality, most people just want to follow.
"You're rounding up citizens based on ethnicity?" Bang. No more of that, then. Next problem?
How is this different than mob rule? "I hear Jim is queer, let's go round him up and kill him!" Do you really think leaving justice up to random bands of men is a good idea? Many people did support Hitler and his ideas... Who's to say libertarian justice in Germany would've have been carried out against Jews as well as Nazis?
No, certainly not. The biggest stretch I've made was being attracted to a fourteen year old girl when I was eighteen, several years ago. I do have some odd things I like... but children isn't one of them.

Property is fundamental to the "free" market. Nothing about getting rid of copyright in any way is "right-leaning" or capitalist or anything else.

I could see Hactivists or Hacktivists, or even Hackervists.
... Hactavists? Why i -> a?
But
Best headphones under $100, hands down. If you'd don't believe me, STOP ASKING FOR HEADPHONE ADVICE ON SLASHDOT and go listen to a pair.

Just to correct some people here, multi-touch pads already exist and work very well:

They were called PowerBooks long before they used PPC processors, but keep trying.

Honestly? They're grad students at MIT. They did some wearable computing business. Why are you complaining?
1. Don't list HTML as a "programming language", ever.
2. ???
3. Probably not profit... but still. Don't like HTML as a programming language.

You're right. They should be putting 68050s in the new iMacs. What are they thinking?

Bolony.

I thought I'd take a good crack at it anyway. ;-)
You aren't?
