    I agree that having a standard is a good thing...
    But I don't like people having to be forced in to accepting a standard that isn't support by any other operating systems. How is people developing for linux gonna support it?

    I remember a computer mag I read a long time ago that had an award for awful games called "Ejnar". I always looked for those those reviews first because they where usually the funniest.

    Ofcourse that's a magazine and not a site. But I still wouldn't buy anything based only on a good review.

    I've trying/using SDL for quite some time and I'm wondering if DOS support is planned... I like the way that Allegro is supported on so manny platforms, but I feel SDL is better when used on linux.

    Well I don't know.

    I've actually been thinking about this.
    Is there a difference between copy-pasting GPL'ed code (which of couse requires you to release your modfied code under the GPL)
    and simply viewing some GPL'ed code to get the general idea of how something is done and then writing you own stuff?
    Yeah it sounds lame, but you're not technically using any of the GPL'ed code in your program are you?

    And exactly how is the command line stopping the GUI from working in any way?
    I know Linux is still lacking things to make it everybodys OS but I don't see how the command line is at fault.
    Windows ME sure became a lot nicer when they removed the option of booting in to DOS...

    But really, I'd be happy to coexist with Windows.
    And if game company's would put a little effort into making their games cross platform I'd be really happy.
    They could put Windows, Linux, Mac and what not binaries on the cd, have it all boxed up in the same package and they'd have a much bigger market without having to worry about not selling not of the Linux or what ever version.

    Has anyone else noticed that the new ms office logo has a swastika in the middle? Now we have solid proof that they are an evil empire!

    Where do you get that 8 and 4 byte increments from? The smallest data size is still one single byte(right? now I'm starting to doubt my self) no matter how many bits the processor is.

    2^32 = 4.294.967.296 adressable bytes (or 4Gb)
    2^64 = 1.844674407e+19 adressable bytes. (dunno, a lot :)

    Ye see.. the adressable range just doubles with each new bit.

    Actually I'm just plain old sick of all this focus on pleasing the business for linux. Sure, ok, we need drivers and such, and I don't mind commercial apps and all. But I could care less if the econemy suffers or cooperations aren't making any money. I never asked for any of this. I'm content with linux (and free software in general) as it is and how it works and I can only really see it improving. Maybe I'm beeing overly optimistic, but I still don't really care. The future will come, commercial or not. And I betcha free software will still be here.

    They're probaly talking about toolkits, widgets, whatever they're called, such as QT and GTK.

    And it isn't really that much of a problem, all you gotta do is have the apropriate toolkit installed.
    And you can run programs using different toolkits at the same time as you said so yourself.

    I do agree with Microsoft that a standard desktop is good, but a standard desktop on linux will probaly come around by natural selection. One desktop will simply have more users than the others. Forcing people to use one specific is not a good thing.

    So? the point of the GPL is to share the code... saying "well, you can still get the old source" doesn't really make a lot of sense.

    This I'm a bit unsure about, aren't you required to pass long the code from day one, or is it alright to wait until you see fit? I doubt it.

    Wich brings along a lot of freedom, unless you want to make it "yours".

    Yes, true, the GPL isn't totally free.
    But I see nothing wrong with demanding that anyone using your code has to release their code as well.
    The way I see it the only reason to have a grouch against the GPL is if you want to use free code to make money of it, but I may have missed some specific case... correct me if I'm wrong.

    If you don't like the license, find something that does the same thing released under the BSD license, or go do it yourself.
