    the CIA and FBI didn't share information because it's illegal for them to do so. I campaigned for Bush. I actualy believed in him. Now I believe that he's no better than Adolph fucking Hitler. This Bearu of Homeland Security coupled with this new "citizen watch" (I don't remeber the offical name of the programme) put together a package that communist east germany would have been jealouse of.

    I strongly suspect that its nearing the time to invoke our moral right to alter or abolish a government when it has become destructive to the end for which it was created, a la the Declaration of Independence.

    I'm sad to hear they didn't make it. I don't know why, but i'm just getting into Net after 6ish years w/ Free. Daemonnews was supposed to have a booth, too. I think the FreeBSD people where going to but, i know not.

    It is nice to know that people wheren't setting fire to Microsoft or anything. anything that makes either linux or bsd look bad is going to end up being bad for the other, becuase we're all on the fringe compared to say, sun or ms.

    Well, probably nothing. I don't mean to troll, i'm just sick of everytime there is a post about MS, they must obviously be up to no good. Every time some rediciulous piece of hardware comes out everyone's like "too bad it doesn't run linux", or if it does "cool! it runs linux!". The people here, on a large scale, seem to be preoccupied with taking over the desktop (as if joe schmoe's mother needs a multi-user, multi-tasking os to play solitare), destroying Microsoft, eroding commercial UNIX and saying how BSD is stupid and BSD people should all start using LINUX. MS wants to controll the desktop (check), wants to erode commercial UNIX, and wants to squash Linux. You're playing the same game by different rules. Much like cricket and baseball. Only not.

    First, I'm a BSD person and really don't give a piss about the GPL except I don't like it much. Secondly, Slashdot is like heroin. There are many site with better information about stuff w/out the rediculous comments by people who don't actually read the articles, but i'm adicted. I can't stop coming back. It's even my home page on my work box (which, incidently is redhat, and is the most unpleasant experience i've ever had. RH5.2 was very nice once upon a time. I simply can't abide by it anymore).

    Fine, how's this? I dislike the GPL. I dislike Linux. While, yes, I believe in free sources, I also don't want to close any doors. Ideology doesn't feed a family. If i can make more money off of my code later, then I want to. I work in a govt research lab this summer. Everything I do they own. My current project is under the GPL, but only because we used a snippit of GPLd code. I could rewrite it, but i'd be tainted for looking at it, wouldn't i? If it were BSDL to begin with it wouldn't be an issue.

    I'm sure i'm going to catch flack for this, but i don't care.

    Like it or not, corperations pay taxes, too. They pay a lot more in taxes than you or I do. They also slip money to the candidates, but that's besides the point.


    The point IS that, because they paid a significant portion towards the research they have every bit of right to use it as you and I do. This is why it makes more sence to have what the government release be either BSDL or public domain. While I know many of you are going to say "what about embracing an extending?!! Death to MS!!", well, other software companies are closed-source too.


    The point of licensing under BSDl for example is NOT to become the one, true, version, BUT to become prolific and standard. If what you made is good enough that many people adopt it, then it'll become the standard. The "internet" would not have become so prolific if TCP/IP had been under the GPL because then noone could really use it besides *BSD and Linux.
