In addition to those, OO.o is still slower to me than Word 2003, let alone 2000. Would be tolerable if it was only on loading, but saving is also slower, and unlike Word, Writer doesn't let me continue editing while saving.
To clarify: I didn't draw up such a list for newer OO.o versions, but the major put-offs, such as lack of Normal Mode, keyboard inflexibility, formatting quirks, some illogical design aspects, and non-roundtrip-proofness, have remained.
This is only from the WP point of view. Some of the comments may be not relevant with the latest version, but only some. I try every new version of OO.o to track its achievements. And being a tecnical translator, I am a serious wordprocessing user with a strong focus on efficiency.
Your best bet is Softmaker Office 2008. It's extremely compatible (better than OO.o), including such things as comments and change tracking, fast, inexpensive, and multiplatform. Beware however that it doesn't have a macro recorder yet.
Moreover, the obviousness test should be much more stringent: if I can easily recreate the thing by just looking at it, then it isn't patentable. Only stuff that can exist as trade secrets (that is, can't be easily figured out by studying the item) should be patentable. Which is far closer to the original intent of the patent system.
At least "productive" is less vague than "fine";-) As in, I can complete the same task with MS Word in less time than with OOo Writer thanks to some features that save me time directly or just give me comfort, leading to less fatigue.
On a side note -- does MS word have a full screen mode where you have no panels, no instruments, just text?
Yes it does, at least the 2003 version has it. I don't use this mode however.
"Worked fine" is vague. Fine for whom and in what aspects? I for one couldn't be as productive with OOo as I am with MS Office even if the former had 100% file compatibility (which it doesn't) because of lack of certain features.
You have said it yourself: "it is 100% certain that those who download pirated versions will never become legitimate customers." Ergo, the real damage (loss of profits) from those pirates incurred by you is exactly zero. On the other hand, you are going to inflict some real, very non-zero damage to these people by your hypothetical actions. Therefore these actions would be wrong even if we are to disregard all PR and legal reasons already cited by others here.

So what? They do not need it, that OK with me, but they don't have a right to NOT hear the truth.
Not that I support the sick dickheads who sent these pics to the poor parents disguising them to look as something else. I'm just against censorship.

There's no abuse whatsoever when nobody forces you to buy/sell or not buy/sell a certain item. As in, threatening you with a gun.
My bad, I forgot that OSNews have changed their comment system sometime ago. Here are the updated links:

Damn, seems like Slashdot has somehow eaten my comment.

Sadly, even "wordprocessing user."
Errrr, we Russians can nuke China on our own, thank you very much. No need for Putin to infiltrate the place. Not that we should of course.
Thanks!
Hi, could you run Office macros under Wine? I could not make Word do it whatever I tried.
DEADBEEF
Interesting chord sequence. Is it produced by Microsoft Songsmith?

For music, it's called concerts. Been like that for ages.

It is, errr, shit from a horse, right?

I guess they are equally bad in practice, albeit for different reasons.

No no no. It is something with a dick inside and a chick outside.
Chances are, buying MS Office is cheaper. This is the hard truth.

And fuck you stupid Slashdot, how long do I have to wait before hitting Reply after entering a comment this short?
Given OOo's track record at bugfixing, I wouldn't call that "useful" for the purposes of a company that wants to choose an office suite.

Most people who have are ashamed to admit it.
