Geeks are smart, and they usually understand the pervasiveness of these technologies.

When geeks insist there is nothing to worry about, it is usually because they have some kind of vested interest in the technology being accepted.
Just look at the softball puff pieces that have been put out in the last 15 years about things like Facebook or smartphones or Alexa.

No, a lot of geeks just want their money, and they don't care about you or your privacy concerns.

  11. There are a lot of scientists with low or lacking ethics. They believe because they are scientists they can only do good and hence doing anything for grants is quite acceptable. Incidentally, you will also find quite a few that fake results and publish outright lies in this group.

  12. So this is like the zillionith article /. has had about how bad smart tvs are.
    We all know this.

I'm currently using an old dumb tv, connected to hdmi to linux mint, and it works great.

However, when looking for a replacement the pickings are quite thin.
Sure, a "non-smart" display can be purchased from Dell or somesuch, but they are incredibly pricey compared to the giveaway deals on "smart" tvs.

  15. From statistics I've read, people in the US are actually staying at jobs longer than they were 25 or more years ago.
However, in the IT/Development world it is different situation.

From what I've heard anecdotally and in job interviews it appears that employers expect people to bounce around.
Some employers almost expect hires to last 1-3 years and then move on.
