That gig is long gone. Most of the steel manufacturing is gone, moved overseas. And why is that? Because making steel here in the US is expensive.

And why is it expensive? Because of situations that you just offered. Paying people not to work doesn't do anyone any good. Is it because of actions like this that I dislike unions. The only people who profit from this is the higher-ups in the union. The workers themselves may do alright in the short term, but eventually the jobs move overseas and never comeback.

Cruel and unusual? This is a military brig, not Camp Cupcake that Martha Stuart vacationed at.
I have actually seen the cells in the Quantico brig. They are about 10ftx10ft with a concrete "bed". You are confined to your cell for 23 hours a day and all meals are served in your cell. Although the bed is concrete you are provided a mattress, pillow, blanket and sheets. These must be rolled up and stored neatly during the day.
You are not permitted to sleep during normal waking hours, you may not lay down. You are only permitted to read the Bible (or your choice of religious texts), the UCMJ or legal material related to your case.

This is the same location and conditions that John Hinkley Jr was held under after his attempted assassination of President Reagan.

Cruel? Hardly. Unusual? Maybe to John Q. Public, but certainly not the military. Excessively harsh? Not a chance. He is a U.S. soldier accused of treason. He is undoubtedly a flight risk considering he is face life in prison and potentially the death penalty.

I have done exactly this on many occasions, particularly at shows for one specific artist. Jimmy Buffett. The party in the parking lot hours before the show is legendary.
As these shows are so popular the sell out quick and I refuse to pay the prices that scalpers are asking. So I got the venue with my friends who have tickets. There are always tickets to be found, either last minute releases at the box office or from people in the lot. The closer is gets to curtain the more likely you are to get one at face value, sometimes even under face.
Showing up to a show without a ticket sometimes doesn't constitute poor planning. It might even be smarter planning.

If you work in a newer building your door handles should be levers (due to ADA rules). Now say you have an office right next to an electrical closet. If you check the back of the lever on the office door it is most likely smooth. Checking the handle on the electrical closet door there is a good chance that there will be ridges on the lever. This lets a visually impaired person know that there is a potential danger located behind the door.

You are obviously a card-carrying union shill. Unions have outlived their usefullness. We have realized the errors of ways and now have LAWS which prohibit child labor, unsafe working conditions, etc. That shit just wont happen anymore. If you are a union member you are obviously paid more than your education, experience and aptitude should dictate. Unions have inflated wages to an unsustainable level.
Take for example the UAW http://www.uaw.org/node/287 and here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070924073107AAuGk8O. Average straight wage of a UAW assembler is $27.81 per hour. $54,000 a year to assemble cars? And that doesn't include overtime. That's bullshit. How about $103,000 a year to operate a forklift? Probably with only a high school diploma. WTF?

No wonder you blow a wad in your jeans over unions. You are scared shitless of getting paid what your labor is actually worth.

This is about paying reasonable wages for your labor. Including keeping wages high enough to earn a decent living, and low enough that Im not getting poked in the ass when I buy a car.
