We get to choose between the 2.0 or 2.3 versions.

This is very different from barcodes. A barcode has to be manually scanned, so you know when a system is reading the information and you can do (probably minimal) research into whether the software reading the barcode is secure enough to handle your personal data.

The trouble with RFID is that anyone scanning can pick up your tag without you knowing about it. This includes secure and non-secure software. If 99% of software reading these tags are secure, there is still that 1% that isn't and you wouldn't know that it picked up your personal info until you get the bogus credit card bills in the mail.

Instead of stating that they have a superior product, with valid points as to why it is superior, they just tell google to get out of their way. The fact is that microsoft is egotistical and doesn't like competition what-so-ever, and this statement proves it.

Yes, I am currently working for a company that greatly values an M.S. for their computer science hires over a B.S. They have the belief that people who have an M.S. have a very strong work ethic, as it takes a great amount of personal discipline in order to finish a thesis.

Performing research and discovering new ideas within the field is hardly learning "worthless textbook garbage. What you did as a B.S. is not what you will do as an M.S. student.

Experience is important, and thats why I work while getting the M.S., but I also think the extra degree will help me land the type of position I want. Instead of being a programmer, I'll have a more critical role in the business. I also think the masters helps when it comes to getting a management position.

It is about personal goals as well. I would like to be able to look at the degree on my wall, as it represents an accomplishment and something I worked very hard for and something to be proud of.

Having a fully functionaly, albeit without all functionality in place is really a plus when it comes to making the customer happy. It also shows upper management that you are actually accomplishing something, and also produces more maintainable code in the end.

I disagree. I am a semester away from graduating with an MS in computer science, and have been working full time the entire way. Anyone can do it if they are motivated. Basically, I take out the partying, vacations, computer upgrade budget etc for 2 years, suck it up, get an advanced degree and get leaps and bounds over my fellow colleagues with only a B.S.

The key phrase is "suck it up." You have to realize that you'll be giving up basically 2 years of fun activities to make an investment for your future career.

    What about this scenario:

You are in the market for Widget X. While on a website about all things Widgety, you see an Adsense ad for a certain brand of Widget X. You click on it, you like it, and bookmark the site. Because you are a smart consumer, you shop around trying to find the best value for Widget X. Upon completion of said research, you decide the original site (the one found with adsense) is the best deal, and you go to that site and purchase (this is now a week later than the original click-through date).

Everytime you reboot your computer, you have your browser set to have all cookies wiped out.

How is google going to track this? This is still a sale generated through adsense.

But there was a lot of crap in there I didn't need: a whole class on binary number theory, a class on machine code, another on circuit design. I'm never going to work with computers on that level, and I'm hardly unique among CS majors in that.

Even if you don't use those classes, its useful to know on a basic level certain topics. Agreed, you are never going to program in machine code, but I know I like knowing what my C++ will compile to, and it also helps in making you a more efficient high-level programmer. And basic circuit design is just logic, which any programmer should have a solid grasp on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that doctors all take the same classes for the first 4 or 5 years, and then they specialize. If you want to specialize, get a MS or PhD in computer science and then you can focus at becoming an expert in a particular topic.

For the PC, I always wait for that magical $19.99 price point that seems to occur pretty much a year after release (unless it does exceptionally well). It also slows down that "I gotta upgrade" itch when you purchase a new release and it looks less than stellar on your machine.

I also troll the local gamestops for good used PS2 games. Recently purchased God of War for around $14.99 used. While I enjoy the game, I would have felt very disappointed if I had paid full price for it.
