  4. Tried both services on The DVD Rental Race Analyzed · · Score: 1

I signed up for Blockbuster's online service and NetFlix in November 04. I finally got fed up with Blockbusters crappy queue management and lack of movies in stock so I canceled this month despite it being a few bucks cheaper. NetFlix actually had movies I wanted to see in stock and in my mailbox the next day. It was easy to add multiple DVD sets to my queue and reorganize it. That kind of service made it worth the extra 3 bucks. There is a reason why people love NetFlix

  5. From the n00b's perspective on Graphical Gentoo Installer In The Works · · Score: 1

I have dabbled in Linux for a few years now. When I used RPM based distros like Red Hat, Fedora Core, and Mandrake I often found myself trying to install a package and it would require me to install another package due to dependancies and that package would depend on 2 more and so on. I finally got sick of the whole RPM thing and decided portage was a good alternative so I looked into Gentoo. After spending a week trying to get it working I gave up and went back to Windows XP. I will definately try it again with a GUI installer. I must admit that atempting to install Gentoo was a very educational experience. There are lots of little things that I took for granted.

We can use Firefox and avoid a good portion of the crap on the internet but Windows users we are still vulnerable in less obvious ways. A lot of Windows apps (Steam for example) use IE as part of their interface. So if IE has security issues and an app uses IE then the app suffers from the same issues.

Exactly! When I go to the library the only porn I look at is in National Geographic. This is no different than when your mom tells you to not to download porn on the family PC. You just do it while she's not home.

I think it's silly for Intel to launch this chip now. I'm sure that the chip will kick ass at encoding video and it will make a good stand-in for the Xeon in the single/dual chip server market but that's about all it will be good for until more SMP enabled apps come out for the desktop. AMD is marketing to the right people in this case by giving the server market a chip that will work well in a multi-cpu environment.
