You're right, on one hand mocking something sacrosanct does cause drama. On the other hand, by permitting people to mock a faith, it does encourage a mindset that a religion ISN'T a deadly serious business, and discourages fundamentalism, encouraging religious tolerance in general. I'm of the option this is part of what turned Christianity from one of the most intolerant faiths in the known world to one of the more accepting ones.

...Yes, Islam respects Jesus is the Muslim perspective. A more Christian POV might be, Muslims claim a misguided man (or perhaps even Satan) is a holier entity than the son of God. To be fair most Christian I know also believe Islam is ok. But, the notion that Islam is a grave insult to Christianity is a view many Christians have, and it is supported by Christian logic. So, Islam insults Christianity, what now? Shall we ban that faith? Or maybe we should just be a bit more open about faith in general?

Respect eh? From a Christian perspective, Mohammad is at best a misguided man, at worst he's a demon who's led billion to hellfire. The thing too many people of any faith can't seem to grasp is that just by existing, their faith is already offensive to others. So, yea show images of Muhammad, even degrading ones. The alternative is to notice just how... incompatible so many faiths are, and have a pointless holy war.

I wouldn't say we're doomed just yet either, but I'm don't know how we could turn things around. As someone who came from one of the countries with a negative population growth (Korea to be precise), the problem seems to be a desire to spend more time on things besides raising kids, while spending even more resources on raising children than the previous generations. Oddly enough, our standards would have to go down in order for the population to stabilize, and I don't see how that could happen short of yet another near apocalypse. We are a rather greedy race after all.

I rather doubt this will be possible. I'm sure even if CG movies become the norm, as long as realism is seen as a positive, there will always be at least a niche that'll prefer and create movies with real actors.

It's more accurate to say - use copy protection, so that one can delay piracy. Considering how long the delay is one could actually prevent piracy for all intent and purpose. Consider the PS3 for example. From what I understand, it simultaneously the most difficult to break into, and the least popular of the current generation of consoles. No idea if it'll remain unlocked throughout it's lifespan, but it doesn't seem impossible if recent slashdot stories are any indication. Of course, we can only assume all the next gen consoles will be even harder to crack.

How about, would all slovenly, unattractive, misanthropes, who've zero chance of getting sex resort to rape? I rather doubt it, and even though pedophilia disturbs me, I don't think the sexual drive of that group is somehow stronger than your average male or female.

Just because you are upset and may want retribution, you are still going to see the distinction between this and someone intentionally killing your mother.

Oh, there is a distinction, the bombing is far worse. If someone kills my mother, or someone I care about, at the very least, it'll be one person who did the deed, and the world at large will agree with my anger. A government orchestrated attack on the other hand, can't be pinned on one person, so it'll be virtually impossible to see any short of justice. To make matters worse, there will be groups who would claim that the death was necessary for the greater good, if not outright claim my loved one deserved it for being some tangential supporter of evil.

I probably would feel a smidge more lenient if someone killed a loved one purely by accident, but that isn't the case when we bomb targets.
