DS9 had it's flaws, but it never was a soap opera in space (well no more than TNG or Voyager), and I never heard it being called such a thing. Do you recall what gave you the soap opera vibe?
Begs the question makes the unitiated English speaker (or those who didn't pay much attention in English 101) think something is so off in some way that one feel a powerful urge to comment. An emotionally stronger version of raising the question so to speak. To say that begs the question can only be a logical fallacy is about as well... logical as claiming a straw man is only a fallacy, and can't be a humanoid shaped object made of straw.
That's one way to look at it. Another is that the movie makers are artists. This group varies wildly on what they think should be allowed with other people's art, but because they create art, they understand the possessiveness one feels when you pour your heart and soul into a project and the desire to protect said project against outside influence at all cost. Because of this, I find artists tend to be surprisingly lax when it comes to take-down notices like this one.
For better or for worse though, it sounds very similar to the reason we ban child porn. They're coerced into doing the deed, they must be put on a pedestal, etc.
Last time I used Hulu, they'd just tell you to adjust your adblocker and make you wait around 30 seconds if you blocked a commercial. Something change?
Amish don't avoid technology based on a point on a timeline. They believe in maintaining a certain lifestyle (strong family bonds, avoid thing that promote sloth luxury or vanity, etc), and many tech is seen as disruptive to such things. What is and isn't ok is debated tweaked and constantly modified depending on which Amish group you're dealing with. This is a good place for more info.
Fair chance you were just joking, but I figure, why not go on a info dump?
All Sanderson is going to do is wrap up the series using the notes Jordan left behind (and he kept extensive notes due to the sudden death nature of his condition). Robert Jordan wanted someone to finish his work. Also, Sanderson has many projects he wants to do, and the man is quite popular already. He did this as a fan of the series, not to get more money or popularity.
I must admit, it's surprising to see someone who's so... passionate about canon, and tying works with their creator. But don't worry, this won't turn out like the Dune series. Well, at least it won't be Sanderson who'll be "extending" the series in that sense. Dunno what Jordan's widow wants.
Piratebay does host legit files. Microsoft also did some nice things for the free software movement, and most hardened criminals have their good points. Conversely, Ghandi and King had bad points to them. What is your point exactly? That because piratebay does host legit torrents, we should leave it alone as a whole? Focus on the positive while ignoring any negatives? Maybe you're arguing since piratebay takes almost everything we should treat it as a neutral place?
I'm worried that he was tweaking the first book for his 10 volume series The Way of King, and "growing immensely as a writer" while he was working on finishing WoT. The thought that he could be in any way influenced by that needlessly detail heavy series while writing his own mega series makes my pessimism act up.
Ah well, at least it won't involve skirt smoothing, sniffing, and braid pulling, while thinking how inferior all of creation is.
Yes, U.S copyright law is in serious need to reform. Now what does that have to do with people downloading the latest movies, games, or programs? I very much doubt the vast majority of torrents deal with things that are 14, hell even 4 years old.
Peach is a prude who never wears anything more risqué than that dress of hers. Do you really think she'd let her love interest soil her royal name by fornicating with some slut? Lets not forget, in her latest game she got her hands on an extreme omnivore umbrella that can eat like say... Mario sized to increase her power.
The chances of something bad happening to a child during the 17 or so years they're under your care however is rather high if me, and my friends and family are any indication. And telling someone to not go to the movies is silly. Most parents don't sweat while their kids are at school, but you want to be notified rather quickly if something does happen.
Does the existence of murder victims pictures/videos support murder? Do videos of bank robberies support theft? While I don't use thing like Tor or Freenet, I do agree with their logic on free speech. If you support it, you must support all of it, even the unsavory ones. Of course, if the content is illegal, you should go after the creators with extreme prejudice like one would track a murderer, but the data from such acts should not be illegal no matter how disgusting.
On the other hand, many who do use Freenet, and such do seem agree with you. Back when I tried out version 0.5, one of the most popular tools was a program that would filter out CP material from your cache. How that worked, I've no idea.
Hmm? There are plenty of 20 something year old who are fans of the Simpsons. It was a rather accessible show with enough low brow stuff that even the kiddes could enjoy. I personally started liking the show around 1993 when I was 8 years old (no longer a fan though I do still watch on occasion). Also, lets not forget the episodes have been rerun over and over again.
Eh, lets face it. Garak could be giving instructions on how to give a horny Ferengi an enema, and it'll still be badass and quote worthy.
Yes, it was in the season six episode "Rocks and Shoals." It was a fairly amusing line all things considered imo.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the numbers for farmers?
I don't know if this is your source, but I figure a citation couldn't hurt. Number of police deaths.
This is great and all, but surely there are other nerd worthy things going on in Japan besides robo muscle suits?
Cavemen also learned not to stuff and eat an animal's shithole, and not to eat rotten animal secretions, yet here we are.
How would you get drugs in Japan when the stigma for doing anything outside of booze and cigarettes is so great?
I watch the news on occasion. Problem is, this headline is on par with the worst sensationalism mass media has to offer.
Thank you. That was very informative, not to mention useful. :)

As we know, people who download music from torrents are actually buying more music than those who don't.
Do you have a citation for this? I recall finding a link once, but I seem to have lost it.

Which brand of solid toothpaste and shampoo do you use?
