Yeah, but I don't know how EA currently holding the James Bond (and thus, Goldeneye) license affects redistribution of games under that license.

I know that Rare only retained the rights to IPs they created, which is why there's are Rare-developed Conker and Perfect Dark games on MS's consoles. But does Rare even have a say in granting Nintendo the rights? Does EA? Or is this something to take up with Hollywood?

It's all really a matter of how Nintendo's publishing deals went. If they somehow had the foresight to afford Rare the time they needed to ship quality games under the condition that future Nintendo consoles could re-release them, then there's no problem.

It wouldn't be unlike Nintendo to have that in a large number of the games on its consoles to keep on the back burners until a time like this arose when they needed to ignite some nostalgic fire under their next platform.

Rare's working on DS games and even AoE is seeing a DS incarnation. Also, Goldeneye's particularly tricky because it was a Nintendo-published game on a Nintendo console, developed by Rare, but the license is owned by EA.

    Interesting, indeed.

Everything that built up to the Xbox's release just seemed perfect. A group of gaming purist able to convince Bill Gates to put money into making the ultimate console. They focused on gaming and left PC-only capabilities excluded, they asked developers and gamers what they wanted, and they took all that and used it to make a console (Except for the controller, I have no idea who they asked when they designed that. Even though I didn't hate it... almost everybody else did). But then the Xbox launched, the slashdot crowd could see that it was just a tool for MS (but can't see that the Playstation brand is only a tool for the almost-as-evil Sony) and the console couldn't shake the low-end PC rep that came with its hardware and manufacturer. Not to mention the fact that Fries, Blackley, and Bachus all left. So now as far as I care I only prefer the 360 for a few choice titles and I can only help that Nintendo pulls ahead this round, for the sake of console gaming.

Right, because American consumers are so smart. If that were so, we wouldn't have heard any "low-end PC" remarks about the Xbox. Everybody just saw MS and branded it a PC.

What makes a console a console? Well it's not the brand of the parts inside of it, I can tell you that much. It's the intentions with which it was designed. The Xbox team set out to make a platform for developers, now I realize that this platform was just going to be used as a tool by MS, but that's exactly what Playstation is to Sony. Kutaragi has no loyalty to the market. If people did some research and read up on what people like Seamus Blackley had to say about the Xbox, they wouldn't have been so quick to brand it a PC.

And the worst part is that the whole time MS is fighting to prove it's not trying to make a PC and call it a console, Sony's parading around planning online media downloads and AIM and a Linux distribution. But anyway, my point is that Americans don't make as informed decisions as you think we do. Just thought I'd let you know that.

By the way, is Slashdot giving anybody else problems today?
