  1. Drunk Drivers on Steering Wheel Checks Alcohol Consumption · · Score: 0

interesting idea but this is not a solution. the bottomline is that ppl have to be responsible for their own actions.it's sad that this happen far to frequently but in the end it's not up to techology (who foots the bill anyhow?) but up to the individual. they made a choice to drink in the first place and I dont want to hear whines about a hard life, socio-ecomionic issues, etc, hard lesson learned but we need to help others learn from these unfortunate experiences.

  2. IE, Mozilla and Apathy on Internet Explorer's Share Dips Below 90% · · Score: 0

well here's my .$02 wether or not it's a %90 or %50 userbase the sad fact is that most IE users simply do not care. they use what is included and and that's it. I have many friends that have never even "heard" of firefox/moziila let alone tried them & when they do the immediate reaction is "yech! this is weird and promptly go back.Trying to educate ppl that really dont care is a useless endeavour. I use what I use (fbsd, mozzie) for my own reasons. Untill these people come to a realization on their own we may as well save our collective breath. These contant userbase stats are a waste of everyone's time imo.

No matter what I say I'll get blasted per usual so here goes, sure kde "seems" more consistent & integrated than gnome but personally it seems like nothing but a windows ui hack, looks just like it dont it? I'm all for choice but after hearing so much about how crappy the win interface is what do we get in kde, same old thing. I use xfce4 exclusively and will never change. Let's hear from some programmers/designers on what constitutes a good albeit (subjective) interface help me bring my karma back to positive!

  5. Federal ID Cards on U.S. National Identity Cards All But Law · · Score: 0

    Hello Big Brother revisted..
How can they exepct to do this? they cant even police our borders and keep out the great unwanted. And will they train airport employees to discern a legal card from a counterfeit ? There are many rules/reg already on the books but in the real world cannot/are not ever put into effect. Will state issued drivers licenses & id cards be invalid now?
And what's the military have to do with this? (aside from post 9/11 paranoia) Just another excuse for big brother to get into our pants (or skirt in this case) and watch us. The gov needs to focus on other things more pressing right now. Excuse me while I go encrypt my swap partition

this story reminds me of a previous study where students without computers at home scored higher at school than those with. Computers are only a tool, not a solution like many think. When you can just (as mentioned earlier) google the answer your own problem solving skills as well as reading skills ( you have to be able to understand what you read to grasp the answer)and comprehension suffer. there is no substitute for actual work. do it the old fashoined wat and the information is likely to stay with you rather than if you just copy/paste.

  12. Migration to Open source on OpenOffice vs. MS Office for Education? · · Score: 2, Interesting

While I have no experience in this sort of migration I feel that while "we" may see the light & benefits I have to say that when concerning something like a school district it will be a very hard sell. The feeling of dealing with a brick & mortar company is a great relief to people when it comes to support and the like. I think there also may be a feeling of "if they give this stuff away for free then it can't be all that good" They may also use the "kids" card. Just like politicians when they say "it's for the kids" knowing that their bill cannot stand on it's own, they use the kids as a means of playing on the parents feelings.. Whatever happens I wish you all the luck in the world on this endeavour

Since when did the dark side ( us ) care about our choice of *nix becoming adopted by the general public? If The LSB becomes widely adopted I still dont think it'll matter much to the general public anyhow. They apparently like being midless sheep and being vulnerable. And if this LSB gains momentum would we see a push for it on the BSD side as well? I just don't see the need for this. You could also say that without a standards base in place it weeds out the general public which in my opinion is good.
