interesting idea but this is not a solution. the bottomline is that ppl have to be responsible for their own actions.it's sad that this happen far to frequently but in the end it's not up to techology (who foots the bill anyhow?) but up to the individual. they made a choice to drink in the first place and I dont want to hear whines about a hard life, socio-ecomionic issues, etc, hard lesson learned but we need to help others learn from these unfortunate experiences.
well here's my.$02 wether or not it's a %90 or %50 userbase the sad fact is that most IE users simply do not care. they use what is included and and that's it. I have many friends that have never even "heard" of firefox/moziila let alone tried them & when they do the immediate reaction is "yech! this is weird and promptly go back.Trying to educate ppl that really dont care is a useless endeavour. I use what I use (fbsd, mozzie) for my own reasons. Untill these people come to a realization on their own we may as well save our collective breath. These contant userbase stats are a waste of everyone's time imo.
No matter what I say I'll get blasted per usual so here goes, sure kde "seems" more consistent & integrated than gnome but personally it seems like nothing but a windows ui hack, looks just like it dont it? I'm all for choice but after hearing so much about how crappy the win interface is what do we get in kde, same old thing. I use xfce4 exclusively and will never change. Let's hear from some programmers/designers on what constitutes a good albeit (subjective) interface help me bring my karma back to positive!
Hello Big Brother revisted.. How can they exepct to do this? they cant even police our borders and keep out the great unwanted. And will they train airport employees to discern a legal card from a counterfeit ? There are many rules/reg already on the books but in the real world cannot/are not ever put into effect. Will state issued drivers licenses & id cards be invalid now? And what's the military have to do with this? (aside from post 9/11 paranoia) Just another excuse for big brother to get into our pants (or skirt in this case) and watch us. The gov needs to focus on other things more pressing right now. Excuse me while I go encrypt my swap partition
this story reminds me of a previous study where students without computers at home scored higher at school than those with. Computers are only a tool, not a solution like many think. When you can just (as mentioned earlier) google the answer your own problem solving skills as well as reading skills ( you have to be able to understand what you read to grasp the answer)and comprehension suffer. there is no substitute for actual work. do it the old fashoined wat and the information is likely to stay with you rather than if you just copy/paste.
Is a Java Desktop what we really need? Explain to me why it's a good idea. Personally I hate java (both the computer types as well as the drinkining type ). And no this is not an attempt to start a flame war, I just dont see the need for it
While I have no experience in this sort of migration I feel that while "we" may see the light & benefits I have to say that when concerning something like a school district it will be a very hard sell. The feeling of dealing with a brick & mortar company is a great relief to people when it comes to support and the like. I think there also may be a feeling of "if they give this stuff away for free then it can't be all that good" They may also use the "kids" card. Just like politicians when they say "it's for the kids" knowing that their bill cannot stand on it's own, they use the kids as a means of playing on the parents feelings.. Whatever happens I wish you all the luck in the world on this endeavour
Since when did the dark side ( us ) care about our choice of *nix becoming adopted by the general public? If The LSB becomes widely adopted I still dont think it'll matter much to the general public anyhow. They apparently like being midless sheep and being vulnerable. And if this LSB gains momentum would we see a push for it on the BSD side as well? I just don't see the need for this. You could also say that without a standards base in place it weeds out the general public which in my opinion is good.
Just as I posted the other day about nothing interesting has come from the star wars universe since the first 2 films.I see a lot of posts today not exactly thrilled with the spots for this new film. guess my crystal ball was ahead of it's time
why wouldn't a mega coprporate machine side against user innovation, it makes them appear slow to react to market wants (if they ever do react) takes a control out of their hands as well as their pockets. most people/countries would do just fine without a gov entity getting in their way, why should the software industry be any different..
hmmm, symantec/ms dont like opensource? wow, I never would have seen that coming. This seems like another of those bait the readers and watch em attack back games
I agree, though I will still go see the next Underworld movie later this year, Underworld: Evolution... wonder what the 3rd release will be called (yes it's on the boards already)
knowing ahead of time this will raise the ire of many a lifeless star wars dork (yes you ppl waiting in line for 3 months for a ticket), I still have to say get a life! the big budget films took a crap after the empire strikes back and there has been absolutely nothing to interest me in anything after that, tho I can say that this homebrew film probly has more appeal (to some not me) than the theatrical releases. personally I'm waiting for Serenity later this year.
I agree %100, I never understood the mentality of copying a ui that resembles the ui that you hate so much ( ok ok it's really the os that's hated but nm ) then again ppl give me grief for being a hardcore xfce user (v3 & 4) they still think CDE in their minds while they blindly go on using kde.girl geek powr! hahaha
Websters Dictionary: "Debian" Once a Mainstay in linux distributions and somewhat innovative in package mangagement with "apt get" it fell into stagnation no doubt helped in part by it's so called "Debian Social Contract" and painfully slow release schedule. In later days it was surpassed by other more up to date distributions with other package systems with more flexibility and power.Debian R.I.P
I support your ammended bill idea.it's like those commercials that say call now & we'll double your order free!, uh no thanks, just give me the normal amount at 1/2 price.

ummm, it was on tv?,I find Tv very educational, every time someone turns it on I read a good book (Groucho Marx)

necessity is the mother of all hacking!
ok, this is absolutley the last april fools joke right?
The all k-new Kdashboard try it k-now!!
They should never be involved in such issues, nor in politics, then again if that was the law then M$ would have nothing to do

Why not just make a fork of gnome that's useable? new button should be the gnome foot kicking a few butt cheeks.. xfce4 is all I need...
