Why does everyone want digital distribution so badly??
Content providers will charge just as much for a digital version as one that you can hold in your hands, and we can (or will be able to eventually) copy the physical media we have now to portable formats.
As badly effed up as the "you didnt purchase a product, you purchased a license to watch this product under specific circumstances" system is, I prefer to have a space-wasting dvd case with some pretty cover slip over a comparatively-priced all-digital version.
Digital distribution wont fix anything, we'll just be able to watch the crap sooner and have less control over what we paid for.
But how much fun is it to play tennis like that?
You might as well play Pong in an emulator. It costs a lot less money and is probably more fun.
The whole point of certain games is to play with energy, and there is absolutely no reason to play them if you dont play like that.

The Future of the PSP

· Score: 1
Not to say everyone is in the same boat, but I dont want two handhelds, I bought a DS in stead of a PSP.
I dont have the time (or desire) to play games all the time any more, so I chose one console, the Wii.
I can afford all the consoles and all the top titles for each, but I dont want to spend all that time with games. One is enough.
If people are not buying one because they bought the other, then theyre competing for the same market, despite the large differences in price.
I would estimate that 100% of the people who posted that story and commented on it are not in/from/near Alaska because they all demonstrate terrible ignorance about Alaska, and the only guy that does have something to do with Alaska is the one labeled "corrupt politician" who has somehow been re-elected six times by Alaskans (obviously for being insane and building things that go to various nowheres!).
Alaska is huge, our biggest city is a small town in any other state, the moose ignore the non-intrusive oil pipeline, the oil companies drive their supplies in on roads made of ice that leave no traces behind when summer hits.
Youre right, its not as bad as activists in the lower-48 make it sound.
Though they certainly are not metropolises, neither Delta Junction nor North Pole are villages.
More importantly, 8 miles away from Delta Junction is Ft. Greely, home of the Missile Defense System, an army cold-weather testing site (The Stryker armored vehicles are a notable graduate), and has a number of Oil Pipeline stations. If the Gas pipeline ever happens, Delta Junction is also on the proposed route.
Before you reach North Pole, you drive past Eilson Air Force Base, which is a major AFB for all of Alaska.
Both places are also already very hot tourist destinations and the extended railway would bring in even more income.
Neat link you have there, though. In stead of Think Progress they should Think before they post 'news'.
I may be misunderstanding you, but it is nowhere near that complicated.
A 4.5GB ISO file would be rar'ed into about 100 ~45MB files, and then there would be about a dozen par2 files to repair incomplete (missing chunks) or missing files. That was *kind of* a pain back in the day, but only to select the files when downloading. If youre an uploader then splitting, making par files, and uploading is an effortless process that only takes up background time.
Nowadays we have these.nzb files that contain everything you need. A 1MB file will handle everything but repair and unrarring, and even those can be automated.
Usenet is still complicated compared to napster, but its rapidly approaching the ease of torrents. Hopefully they'll continue to ignore it and serious usenet providers will continue to have a policy of blissful (profitable) ignorance regarding who downloads what and when.
Its sad that you feel like you need to post this as an AC, but this is slashdot, after all...
It doesnt matter, though. The people complaining that the government is running certain people's lives are the same people complaining that the government isnt running certain other people's lives.
While its definitely better than any of the 3d sonics, I didnt like Sonic Rush much.
In the old 2d sonics (the Genesis ones, some of my favorite games ever), there werent pits to run straight into everywhere like there are in Rush. The bottomless pits all over the place are so annoying, especially since the game moves so quickly.
I'll probably pick it up and give it another shot (I purchased it when it came out), but next time I wont be expecting a Genesis-Sonic experience (maybe that was my problem going into it the first time).
No kidding, Megaman X (1) is one of my favorites in the entire series. It did some fresh things (namely the equipment upgrades) that differentiated itself from the main line.
Plus I cant get enough of the music, its one of my favorite SNES soundtracks.
It has definitely been going downhill, though. I dont think the X line has fared as well as the main line in the same number of games.
Starsiege: Tribes (Tribes 1) dominated my PC gaming time until everyone moved to Tribes 2, which was good (but was no Tribes 1).
Then came Tribes Vengeance. It stole most of the community and then killed it by being a horrible game. Now the Tribes and Starsiege franchises are completely dead.
Saying you sold X number of units is a public announcement of your market penetration.
When the number does not reflect actual market share, then its a meaningless number.
Would it be just as valid if MS had bought all the Xboxes from themselves? They would have been sold and then bought.
You joke, but you know that it will have some giant CG monster chasing Indy around and smashing through stuff.
Thats what sells at the cinema these days, and Lucas knows it.
Did the Air Force go to InfoCon 4 also? (Army DOIM, here)
Not to nag, but is login policy public information? I'm sure people can find out that we use CACs to log in now, but detailed (as detailed as Army Pacific gived the DOIM, at least) password requirements for InfoCons 4 and 5 probably fall into OpSec.
I downloaded 24 season 3 and subsequently purchased all the season DVD boxes.
Same for:
Curb Your Enthusiasm (bought DVDs)
Dexter and Brotherhood (subscribed to Showtime)
Battlestar Galactica (started watching SciFi)
House (started watching new eps as they air)
The Shield (bought DVDs and follow it as it airs)
Lost (bought DVDs and follow it as it airs)
and a few others.
Im sure that Im in the list of people who downloaded TV material. Good thing for the studios that I did, theyve got a lot of my money as a result.
Im thinking that there is rumble support, though there are no N64 games released yet that actually support rumble...
Star Fox 64 (the debut of the Rumble Pak) came out long after Mario 64 did.
Your post is so pretentious that it is astounding! Couldnt you think of a less-caustic way to tell people that books are better?
When I was younger I was really into comic books. I also read real books all the time, big thick ones with fancy words and all that. What does it all mean? Its means I liked comic books and I liked regular books. Now I just read regular books. If comic books and movies interest someone, what business is it of yours? Why do you think people will care that you consider books so superior?
Or maybe because the government uses acronyms for everything and its quicker to say "IED" than "Improvised Explosive Device". Back into your hole, now...
Again, baseless speculation.
Bush is a christian and there are christians in the US, therefor iraq is a US Holy War and that makes christians worse than those muslims that actually declared a Holy War on... mostly christians... before iraq. makes sense.
I will agree with you on the leaders part, though. As long as there is a charismatic (or oppressive) leader that people do the bidding of, stuff like the crusades (muslim, christian, or anything else) are more than possible (though mind that I am not conceding to the idea that iraq is a religious plot by Bush).
As opposed to going to war with non-muslims simply because they are non-muslim? Or imposing the death sentence on someone for converting from muslim to christianity? Too bad that isnt wild speculation, like the basis of your post.
Aw, we should cut them some slack. Theyre probably in the "crusades"-stage of their religion, they'll catch up with everyone else in a few hundred years. Meanwhile we can rag on christians, they wont blow you up for criticizing them.
Yeah, but OC (Pepper Spray) is also potentially lethal. So are peanuts and peanut products.
The point of officers (security and police) getting tazed and OC'd during training is to demonstrate the effect they have on a person, and for the officer to know exactly how much is too much (the training I went through put us in worst-case scenario OC contamination and sustained tazes).
Not to say that the officers in question were right in their escalation of force (I wasnt there, so I cant say either way), but if the guy was still yelling and active, then the officers were showing restraint with their taze durations.
I agree completely that it was a dumbass idea and the wal-mart manager needs to be fired, but is it really wal-mart's fault that the guy got hurt?
If the challenge had been to soak in gasoline and jump through a flaming ring, wouldnt most people agree that whoever actually did it was an idiot? Would it be wal-mart's fault that he chose to do something so obviously stupid?
Playing a game of musical chairs with 60 people that are all batty for a ps3 is a stupid idea. People have no sense of self-responsibility any more, its always someone else's fault. Wal-mart didnt force him to participate, but someone did smack him into a flag pole. IMO, that is who he should be suing. I doubt that the loonies that knocked him around in the race are as juicy a target as wal-mart, though.
