I wouldn't call it a rant, I was just pointing out that it's a maturing market and yet there's a buzz like the normal product upgrade cycle is right now, when in fact the previous generation players are still working fine. Ride that horse till it's dead, so to speak...
It records at that speed IF you want it to... guess what, then you edit it and break it down (bitrate) a little more if you want.
I would go.wav for recording, however...I don't store it at that speed.
What I typically love are people who claim to be audiophiles and listen to noise that is called music...and still worry about lossy vs.lossless. It's a friggin concert with background noise! I'd do.wav on my stupid sony minidisc with no backlighting but the H320 is much better to see in some venues, beautiful color screen... that said it fills the bill.
I don't do DRM... ever so why should I want something that I'll never use. I do use it for ripped music too, so I guess I am saying I'll never have an ITunes -or- Napster account!
To each his own
I like things that work well, I like to record stuff, I really use what I buy. The war over which player is best is stupid. I like Apples interface but sadly the extended features are lacking. That's just me.
They all do mostly the same thing... (play music). But mine both record by mic, or by line input which is really keen for me. Creative upset me when they dropped all recording features after JB3 which in my estimation was a mistake for them because they were pretty strong out of the gate by being in the stores early (big-box retailers).
They (Creative) don't have that zing anymore and they haven't marketed a product to replace my JB2. Besides, recording isn't on the "A" list for most consumers and while I may have that H320, that too was a sales dog and is now discontinued. (bought the diplay model for 100 bucks off, great score!
Hey everyone, throw out your first gen & 2nd gen DAP's because our innovation is sure to please!
My Creative JB2 is still playing (24/7) since christmas 2001. I liked it so much that I bought an IRiver H320 to be able to record at bitrates up to 320kbs. I suppose I'll buy another upgrade someday but why go lateral when it boils down to "It does the same thing" (but wait... that nasty consumerizm is the monkey on my back and gosh it is from apple!)
It would be nice to see more features not more stripped-out things that have been done previously.
Now if it can record at 320kbs and not be DRM heavy, I'll consider it
Call it flamebait, but John Williams's Star Wars musical score really made for 2 generations of horrible summer/winter blockbuster scores. Too dramatic, ubiquitous and well... overblown. All movies sound alike now (the big one's - -pretty much)and it interferes with taking any script seriously.
If I want to see "Flight of the Phoenix" then I suppose I'll just see the Jimmy Stewart version.
Or if i want to see "Manchurian Candidate" I can't see how anyone can top Frankenheimer's work of that period (BTW.. See "Seconds" by Frankenheimer) both of these movies are first rate on little things like sets/atmosphere and moods. Some scenes remind me of acid trips (that others have told me about:)
Why can't hollywood remake underperforming movies (You know the one's nobody saw the first time)and actually try to improve those dogs (reduce, reuse, recycle...) rather than the movies people with money (i.e. adults with a fond memory for nostalgia)
That lowest-common denominator mind-set keeps me away from those gawd-awful things that pass for movies today (all with horrible Williamsesque scores...

That 20 dollars probably covers the cost of some warehouse monkey to get the box back to the line and then swap-test-and rebox the product. (In all likelyhood they lose a cash token of 50 bucks and now you are dealing with just the cost of the hardware + value added services (swap-test-and rebox).
I suppose someone who works for Dell could tell you about the actual process and how it costs more to fabricate a different machine then how they do it everyday.
They have a process and say what you will about it, but in the real world when you insert a variable that isn't a marketable value to the consumer then you get Value-added services applied to that product. We do it all the time with something as simple as writing a requested report not on the list of contractual items, thus being able to charge for it...
Let us massage and reward your impressive creativity and self-importance with these magic "creative reward carrots", that stick that used to be in your ass is now called an intrinsic reward,. No those carrots won't pay for the sports-car and hairplugs or the summer house for sale next to ours(just listed for 1.5 million), just have the satisfaction that you are appreciated (as we are off to the summer house in the hamptons for the summer.)
P.S. Carrots are good for your creative eyesight & our bottom line!
Whilst many engage in taunting MSFT for having too much vaporware, I submit to you that one day the Google stock experience will initiate the phrase to be coined as *Vaporstock.

From an AP article explaining the basis it sounds possible AMD might prevail if the same standard is applied... let's hope so!
The payout is one of the largest that Microsoft has made since U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson ruled in 2000 that Microsoft engaged in anticompetitive practices. Jackson's ruling cited IBM as a company that Microsoft had forced to "desist from certain technological innovations and business initiatives."
For example, Microsoft didn't charge all computer makers the same amount for its Windows operating system, allegedly using higher prices as a cudgel against PC companies that didn't comply with Microsoft's wishes
Just a thought, if everything is so-oooo bad for our chosen profession then why does everyone here spend good money for broadband access and multiple computers (usually the latest and greatest). The most considerate and productive among us will always find good work whereas the complainers (you know who you are!) are never satisfied. Slackers are everywhere...quit posting and get bizzy.
Obviously going after Apple's iPod world with the line "Windows powered software & devices". MS is a smart company, don't think for a moment they are "that vulnerable" They have the money to market their products and market they will.
Read what I posted. Yep, gonna drag that desktop into a smokey club with drinks spillin on the keyboard and people tripping over the power cord.
