I use firefox, I love firefox, but I see no reason why we need to have 50% of the market share. If people want to continue to use Internet Explorer, an inferior product, they have every right to do so.
I'd much rather have firefox as a "niche" market for the geek/tech savvy people then have the masses using it. Let the lusers continue to get viruses and malware from Internet Explorer, eventually they will learn on their own why they should switch to something else.
The last thing I want is for firefox zealots to try and force a product down peoples throats, thats the microsoft method, and we need to be better then that.
I have never had any extensions problems, when I upgraded from 1.03 to 1.04 I didn't even have to reinstall any extensions. Heres the full list of the ones I use:

Firefox currently says its using 88mb for me with 8 tabs open.
If I minimize firefox, the memory footprint goes down to 1mb (it may take a couple min/maxes to notice this).
Now when I restore firefox, it says its using 26mb instead of 88mb, with the same 8 tabs still loaded. This has to do with firefox keeping recently viewed pages in memory for speed I'm guessing, and when you minimize, it flushes it to disk. This is just a possibility, I'm not a firefox programmer so I can't say what they're doing for sure.
It probably doesn't recognize the new firefox binary.
Whenever I upgrade firefox, Zone Alarm recognizes that it changed and asks me to allow it to connect to the internet (it was already allowed previously). Because the binary changes, zone alarm doesn't recognize it anymore and you have to re-allow it.
I don't know if norton firewall works anything like zone alarm, but that might be the problem.
Hehe, I'm glad you figured it out =) I was going to reply and say that those images load fine for me.
OT: I had a similar problem with loading images in firefox, only this was with google maps. The google maps wouldn't display anything, just a blank page. I searched all over to find a solution, but couldn't find anything. It turns out it was one of my firefox options.
Under Tools->Options->Web Features there is the option titled "Enable Javascript" with an "Advanced" button on the right side. I had long ago disabled all the options in there, thinking it was more secure and i'd have more control if javascript wasn't able to do all those things.
Well anyway, all I had to do was enable "Change Images" and google maps worked, I still have all the other options disabled though (for now).
No it isn't. Firefox loads up slightly slower then IE, and that makes sense.
IE6 is several years old now, with no new features added in a long time. Computers have gotten faster, while the memory footprint for IE has stayed the same, and of course, IE is built into the operating system.
Firefox 1.x is new, has more features and loads more plugins and extensions. It makes sense that firefox loads a bit slower then internet explorer if you think about it.
I rather wait 10 seconds for firefox to load, over 1 second for internet explorer. It's worth the wait.
Heh, right now firefox is using 88mb, but I have 8 tabs open. Usually when i'm browsing porn sites, I have between 30 to 50 tabs open at a time.
I have 2.66ghz p4 with 1gb of ram though, and firefox runs amazingly fast even with a HUGE amount of tabs loaded. The initial load is sometimes slow I will admit, but slow as in 5-10 seconds isn't a problem for me. I bet it has to do more with plugins and extensions that possibly slow down the load by a few seconds.
Um, they have state-issued ID for people who don't drive.
That is correct, but I don't understand your point? He stated: "Because of it being the only thing that can be reliably found on 99% of the adult population"
Pretty much every adult has gotten their drivers license in todays society.
Not in America. In China, Malaysia, and Singapore, however, there literally are vendors in the streets selling illegal CDs of this and dozens of other expensive software products for five bucks.
Here in Markham, Ontario, Canada, there literally are vendors in malls selling illegal CDs and DVDs.
There are 2 malls which are pretty much asian malls, Pacific Mall and Times Square. My buddy who has a modded ps2 used to buy ps2 games from a store in Times Square for $10 (CDN) each (obviously illegal copies). I was amazed that an actual store could get away with this.
Just in the Toronto Star paper today, there was an article about $800,000 worth of pirated DVDs being seized at Pacific Mall. (Requires login, use slashdot@slashdot.org password: slashdot)
Here's an old article dated February 16, 2001, where 62,000 "optical discs" were recovered from stores in Markham. If you look at the names of the four accused, they are all asian. I have nothing against asians, my best friend is asian. It just seems that around here, there are ALOT of stores masquerading as legal businesses, that are run by (and primarly serve) asians. I'm surprised they stay open as long as they do without getting caught.
You say you want a DVD player that plays discs from Europe, Asia and every other continent? Well, you won't find one at Future Shop but there are countless on offer at Pacific Mall - the largest Asian mall in North America. That's right, most DVD players you find at the major retailers are deliberately set to reject DVDs that were not purchased in North America. So if you buy a DVD on a trip to England or France, there's a very good chance you're not going to be able to play it on that Wal-Mart special or that expensive Sony player either. You need what's called a "region-free" DVD player. Pacific Mall has got them and guess what, they don't cost any more than the deliberately limited ones do. In fact, you might even save a few bucks.
Ok, so where is this Pacific Mall? Is it hard to get to? Naw, it's easy. From York, just go east along Steeles until you reach Kennedy - and there you are. The gadget Mecca of Toronto awaits you. Want a 1GB memory card for your camera for under $100? You'll find it here. How about a 100-in-1 Game Boy Advance cartridge that somehow packs 100 games that you would normally have to buy individually into one cartridge? Yeah, you can find it here. How cool is that? Instead of schlepping around a box full of games with you, you can just carry one little compact Game Boy Advance SP with one cartridge neatly tucked into it, and that's it.
Oh yeah, and you'll save some money. Actually, you save quite a bit of money. This is so amazing that it should be illegal! Actually, it probably is. But I'll leave that between you and your conscience.
So, any other quasi-legal ways I can save money? Well yeah! DVDs are so cheap at Pacific Mall that you might be left wondering just how they do it. But again, this is something between you and your student loan officer. Or let's say you'd like to unlock your phone so that you can switch from one company to another and keep the same phone. That can be arranged at Pacific Mall. Or perhaps you're more of a do-it-yourselfer. Well then, you might be interested in certain cables and software which allow you to connect your cell phone to your PC to unlock it, and perform many other interesting functions as well. I now have a new mode on my Nokia cell phone called "Field Test" which
It's most likely that they changed their mind, and were too lazy or didn't know howto opt out, so they simply marked it as spam and deleted it. I've done it a few times on my hotmail account because I couldn't find the unsubscribe link on the website. And a few times, I was just too lazy or changed my mind, so I marked it as junk and deleted it. I realize now that is can be a harmful practice and my laziness can get the free service blocked/reported as spam.
That's pretty ridiculous. I used to drink when I was younger with my buddies, and people (myself included) would always pee behind a bush or tree. If you get caught, the worst it should be is public urination.
When your drunk, your not exactly in the right state of mind, and you have to urinate alot, mix the two together and you're going to have people that "need" to urinate badly, and maybe they cant get to a toilet in time.
For some weird reason, people never use "rape" any more it seems. They prefer to use "sexual assault" up here in Canada. I think its bad, as rape sounds alot more evil, they should continue to use the term rape.
You stole yours? That's pretty low..
The 20gb model I got last christmas cost $400 Canadian. I used to make $325/week when I was 14 at a local golf course making $8 an hour. It's really not that hard, stealing from people because you're too lazy to save up is pretty damn despicable. Someone would have to pry my ipod from my cold dead hands if they wanted to steal it from me.
One, if a literal interpretation of the Bible is correct, what about all these fossils?
Thats what I've always wondered. According to Genesis, god created man on the 7th day, it fails to mention any dinosaurs that came before us. One reason I believe why the original writers of this story failed to mention dinosaurs, is because they had no knowledge of them at the time. Also, the possibility that they believed themselves to be the supreme race, why else would they state "God created man in his own image".
Im my opinion, the bible is as believable as greek mythology. The bible has been translated so many times over 2000 years, it reminds me of the old game we used to play as little kids called broken telephone. Who's to say that they translated it correctly? Men have been putting women in their place for thousands of years (wrongfully), and of course in the bible, it was Eve who ate the apple and ruined it for everyone.
Also in the bible, it states somewhere that incest is a sin. Ok, so how did Adam and Eve's kids have kids? If they were the original couple, their children would have had to have sex with each other to continue breeding more humans, and so forth. That is something that always bothered me. The bible is filled with so many hypocrisies, its hard to even dissect it and get one clear message.
This is just my opinion, I have nothing against religious people, as long as they don't force their beliefs on me, I will return the favour.
God damn! $179,000!! Thats a nice bribe, er I mean...donation.
I believe a bill was passed a while ago in Canada, that limits the amount any company/individual can donate per year.
After doing a quick google search, I came up with this related link here
Quote:
This bill will limit corporate donations to 1000 dollars, and personal donations to 10000 dollars meaning a CEO of a multinational multibillion dollar corporation would only be able to contribute 11000 dollars in total. Furthermore, political donations may only be given to the candidate or riding association. Contributions to any political party are banned. All donations over 200 dollars will be publicly and fully disclosed.
So basically, this $179,000 that the RIAA payed Orrin Hatch, would be illegal in Canada under the proposed bill. And if I read it correctly, you can only donate during an election campaign, not while they're already in office. I'm not sure if this bill was ever passed, but I sure hope so. It's a good idea and United States needs to adopt something similar.
This reminds me of a U.S Religious Lobby group that has been trying to stop/prevent Canada from legalizing same sex marriage. I can't find the original story link from the Toronto Star, but managed to find others.
Powerful U.S. religious groups are sending money and support to allies in Canada to fight same-sex marriage.
Patrick Korten, vice-president of communications for the Knights of Columbus head office in New Haven, Conn., said no limit has been set on the help his organization is prepared to offer.
"Whatever it takes," he said. "The family is too important."
Mr. Korten said the U.S. headquarters of the Catholic men's group paid $80,782 to print two million postcards being distributed in Catholic churches across Canada.
"It has been extremely enthusiastically received in Catholic parishes all over Canada. As a matter of fact we may have to print some more -- there was a great deal of interest in it. It offers a quick, simple but effective way for Catholics... to make their feelings about the same-sex marriage bill known to their MPs."
Another opponent of same-sex marriage, Focus on the Family, is also sending support and services worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to its Canadian affiliate.
James Dobson, the charismatic founder of Focus on the Family who has been described as one of the most influential Christian figures in the United States, personally waded into the debate two weeks ago in a radio show taped in Colorado Springs, Colo., and transmitted as a paid broadcast to 130 stations in Canada.
"It is clear here in the United States that the American people do not want same-sex marriage. I would hope that Canadians who also do not want same-sex marriage would be encouraged by what has happened down here."
What the hell is wrong with the USA, when they have to force their religious beliefs on other countries? Canadians hate being told what to do by Americans, and we usually will do the opposite of what they want, just to spite them.
U.S has alot more cases of mad cow, they just cover it up and act like nothing happened. After all, it would hurt their economy if other countries banned U.S beef.
I remember seeing the documentary on CBC about the U.S mad cow cover up a couple years ago. It was pretty interesting. U.S of course doesn't want cases of mad cow to be found in their beef, since other countries would ban imports, and U.S would lose money. One small scale cow farmer in the states wanted to test every single one of his cows for BSE upon death. The USDA threatened him and prevented him from doing this. Why? because the idea of scanning every cow for BSE scares the USDA, it would raise production costs, increasing the price of beef, and alot more cases of BSE would potentially be found.
As it is, the current US policy on beef is to only test cows that look very sick. So alot of cows that have BSE go unchecked and ends up being sold as safe beef. Luckily for me, I have a choice, and I only eat local Canadian beef.
Did you pull those statistics out of the air? A source would be useful..
