    Odds are it will, just by name JPG people can recognize it... Laymen and Power Users alike, I think the biggest thing holding PNG back wasn't lack of support (it's a great format) but lack of NORMAL people knowing what the heck the files were! It wasn't a friendly JPG, GIF, BMP format... JPG2000 sounds hip, catchy :) Might just do the trick to get a nice standard image format..

    What's with all the Anonymous Cowards... If you are proud of your country USE YOUR NAME... This thread is so off-topic it's hardly worth replying to, but any American should feel obligated to.

    It makes me sick to see the teen-ager "I hate the government" attitude people take under the clock of Anonymity. I don't know if the poster was an american citizen or not, but if he was, I would be happy to take you out on a boat, find you an Island and name it "IThinkIKnowABetterWay" and let you rot.

    Oh, and if you don't think we fight to defend our country, tell that to the millions of people who have lost family members when they come knocking on your door, myself included.

    So, now to be a software executive, you have to be able to use Word and send blank email?!? I've been one for years!! I had no idea.

    If the kid were coding weather simulations or helped John Carmack w/a OpenGL problem he just couldn't figure out ( :) ) THEN I'd be impressed...

    So... When is iD going to remove the most gay of all features, the CD Key Check... If ever there were a sign of selling out, it was that.

    1) The server has to be up 101% of the time, or I can't play a game I BOUGHT?! What is this?!?
    2) Someone will crack it, why bother.
    3) The beauty of the Quake's has been their lack of dependencies... You could move Q1 or Q2 anywhere, windows or linux could care less... Next thing you know Q3 will have dll's everywhere and registry keys :(

    No, actually... You're wrong. Last night, around 2 when it finally came out there were at least 400 people on #q3demo on Enterthegame.com, around 250 on #quake on EfNet. there's 650 ppl JUST ON 2 IRC networks that were waiting anxiously for the demo, let alone the ppl they tell to get it, etc... Those servers would be roached regardless of /.'s existance.

    Umm, ok, so you are saying that you EXPECTED computing to evolve into a piracy-ridden windows file sharing network? Dead GOD I hope not. "yet we all had pirated versions of quake, warcraft, starcraft, and plenty of MP3s and movie files" -- "Why do so many here support *Free* software and yet cling so hard to copyright? Information should be free people, that's what we fought Microsoft for!" I think that would be because that software IS copyrighted. Just because the GPL and Copyleft's EXIST doesn't make it ok to steal things that don't comply to it!! Copyrights will always exist (hopefully) and so, unfortunately, people will actually have to PAY for services and products in the future, oh boy, how sad!!!

    This is a huge step, or at least I see it that way... Even if it is something so simple as a bunch of clients with two buttons (this guy) or (the other guy) hooked up to a little server behind the registration desk... It always takes someone to break ranks, and try a new thing in order for the rest of us to go ahead also... We'll just have to see who else follows...

    Typical "no one liked me in high school" outlook on life. EVERYONE is needed to make the world go around bud... Geek, Loser, Square, Popular, Stupid or Smart... If it weren't for any one of these types of people this world would be very different. Being anti-social is one thing, but UNABLE to be social is quite another, people like that need help.
