Because I don't want to have to maintain yet another piece of software.
Individual pieces of technology have been getting more and more amazing over the last few years. But I don't want to have to run 18 different apps on 3 PCs a laptop, DVR, palm top and car computer. I want everything wrapped into one package. So that no matter where I go I can do anything I want.
This has nothing to do with stolen code. This has nothing to do with Intelectual Property or Copy Rights. GO is not claiming infringment, nor theft (though they imply it)
This is an AntiTrust lawsuit. GO is claiming that Microsoft used it's Monopoly like power to control the market and other vendors in a delibret effort to cause their company to fail.
The problems they'll have is that the whole thing took place in the late 80's, long before Microsoft was originally found guilty of abusing it's monopoly like powers. The other challange they'll have is proving MS was delibretly trying to snuff them. They can show the coinsidence in time lines for development, but they'll be hard pressed to come up with a smoking gun or 20 year old memo that says "Saturate pen market, destroy GO!"

This is as wonderfull as the Zombie Dog story last week. No facts, no information about the PC, connection, patch history, viruses, etc. Just some random number and some advertising.
Big suprise, the world most popular OS has the largest number of virus's written for it. Another big suprise, leave your machine unpatched and unprotected on a network and it'll get infected.
As we all know Justice Sandra Day O'Connor is actually a beta cyborg developed by Microsoft. She is actually an updated version of the Rhenquest Alpha model which is currently undergoing repairs to attempt to lengthen it's life cycle.
No, he was being accurate. The asshat who started this thread doesn't understand how data is transfered. RSS always did transmit binary data, the only difference is that previously it would always resolve that binary to UTF or ANSI text. MS is just adding the option of building the binary to a file of some type instead.

Floppy disks, hot swap drives, CD/DVD-Roms, thumb drives, jaz/zip/spark drives, internet connections, etc, can be used to deliver worms and worse to the desktops.
The point is not that RSS is a security vulnerbility, but that the OS and related sub systems must be up to the task of preventing the bad things that come across from doing damage.

There are a handful of ways to make a game entertaining:
Mindless clicking: (Bejeweled, Virus, Othello, etc) These games offer a simple release. Games are short lasted, and loose their fun quickly, but can be picked up again and again
Maslow's Heiarchy: (RPGs, MMORPGS, Nethack) Kill one more critter for level 2, killer 10 more for level 3. The effort/reward structure is set up to keep you entertained and sucked in for hours. It's all about reaching that next level of virtual self improvement. MH is used in many games, but MMORPGS are the most focused versions of it.
Plot: (Vampire Redemption and End Times, fabel, never winter nights, etc) These games have indepth plots with loads of characters and flexability based on what the player does. These games often have high replay-ability.
Ooooh Shiney!: (Doom3, HL2, etc) These games push the graphics envelopes.
Self Improvement: (Counter Strike, NFS Online, some MMORPGs etc) These games have a publicly viewable stats system that lets players see how they compare to others. Unlike MH where the goal is to improve your virtual self, here the goal is to improve your performance.
This is not a complete list, but I'm at work and can't spend all afternoon writing a dissertation on the 'entertainment' of video games.

Morse code is not hard to learn, nor do you need a high IQ.
Morse code requires muscle memory. It takes a decent amount of practice to get that memory, but once you have it, it's like second nature.

Under the same logic, would owners/managers of motels that rent rooms by the hour be subject persecution for prostitution? I mean, there's only so many "1 hour naps" a person can take in a day.

Because I live in the US. Because I like my job. Because I want to keep my job. Because I want to be able to provide for my family. Because the cost of living in the US is significantly higher. Because I'm a greedy capitalist pig, and I'm going to put my well being, and the well being of my family above that of some I don't know, be it in a different city, state or country.

"This is a terrible decision. Alas, there's no higher court; the only hope (short of eventual bloody revolution) is that another similar case comes along and SCOTUS reverses itself. Which is so unlikely as to be laughable. Bloody revolution, here we come!"
One other option, get an amendment made. Start talking to your senetor. In the mean time, talk to your state reps and get a state law passed to prevent the abuse of this.

Yup, that way they can get bulk coding for $1.50/hr out of India, and get free peer review and development out of the west. -Rick
