    Just as an FYI, I have the WFP running. Using Process Explorer from sysinternals.com I was able to grab what is below. I cut some of it out to get past /.'s Lameness Filter.

    In order for us to live in balance with our environment, it is not matter of each of us reducing what we consume. If we all reduced our consumption of natural resources to a sustainable rate, we would all be living in trees. The real problem is that there is just too many of "US". We need to reduce our selves. No environment can sustain expentional growth forever. We WILL eventully live in balance. It is just a question of will we decide to, or will we be forced to. If we decide not, nature will force us, one way or another.

    It's not just technology and it is not just the older generations. I have found that an upsetting number of Americans are ignorant on many fronts. Just yesterday I was listening to Sean Hannity as he was doing his normal 'Man on the Street' segment. He interviewed this junior in college who is majoring in political science. She could not name the vice president of the US and did not even know that there was an election coming up.

    I still don't understand how a bunch of animals dieing can cause Earths orbit to change. Even after an animal dies, it's mass still stays on planet earth.

    After reading TFA, I have a question. Are there any physics buffs out there who can answer this? The article explains that the GEO 600 works by splitting a LASER beam with a semi-transparent mirror bla bla bla....

    My question is this. What would happen if you shot photons at a semi-transparent mirror just one at a time. Can the exact number of photons that takes one route over the other be predicted? I assume that it should be 50/50 if the mirror is 50% transparent, but the likelihood of any given photon taking one route over the other should be random unless maybe if the mirror is polarized? If it can not be predicted, is this the limitation of accuracy for the GEO 600?

    Now, if the dogs could describe the necessary action instead, I'd be extremely impressed.
    That is kinda how I thought they did it. One describes the trick to the other. Either way, this is still very interesting.

    Yes. TFA said that the dogs could learn new tricks then teach them to other dogs. This is truly something new. How do you program both learn and teach? I would like to see some of the code!

    I can't believe that companies out there are allowed to make these phones knowing that they could cause injury. Isn't this what we have a government for. We need have laws to protect us from ourselves. We must have congress prevent people from using phones during storms. If you know anyone who has been struck by lightening while holding a golf club, phone, lightening rod, etc... please encourage them to sue and write their congress person.

    I don't think the stability issue is a safety issue. As far as accidentally blowing up your own stock pile. I think that it is more of an issue of "we dropped it on the city but nothing happened?". Some one with more knowledge, please correct me if I am wrong.

    I have an O'Riley Java book that has an excelent glossery. Every 30 days or so, I pick a new phrase from the glossery. Since the password changes so often, I have to cheat for the first few days after the change. I write the page number, column number, and word number in my white board as a hint. My last password was '~Applet.destroy()123'

    I don't care so much about the data mining of public forums. I just don't like the idea of tying that in with private records. Now, if they required mySpace to do anything to make the snoopers job easier, then I have a major problem with that. mySpace should also be able to restrict web bots, and web bots should honor any restriction set forth.

    If I play the licensed music through my sterio system that consists of multiple speakers? Do I need a license for each speaker since technically each speaker is receving a 'copy' of the song.
    How about a few steps further? So, What if I remember a song that I just listened to? Does that memory need a license? What if I told you that I am undergoing a strange new treatment for alzheimer's and I have an implant that helps me to remember? How about now?

    Look, I'm not saying that programmers don't make mistakes...I know that I have made some expensive ones. I also know that there are some fantastic pilots out there too. In fact I would go as far to say that for the most part, most pilots are excellent and I would trust my life with just about all of them. However, My point is this, if and when we get to a point where the software is better than the pilot, I think that the software will still have additional hurdles to over come. Your response demonstrates some of those obstacles.

    As we start to automate transportation (all forms) with computers, we will always remember when the computer got it wrong. Even if the computer is better most of the time. If a man makes one mistake out of a hundred, and a computer makes one mistake out of a million, the media will will always highlight the computers faults. We will always hear "...had a person been driving..."

    I have a question. Forget about M$ for a second. Would you pay a monthly service to make sure you always have a top-of-the-line computer? Let's say that you can pick the OS. You just pay a flat monthly fee and you always have the latest software, and the latest hardware including GPU's RAM, HD, whatever. You would probably want to keep a fileserver somewhere on your network so that You don't have to keep coping all of your p0rn to the new machine. You could also keep a setting file there to so that you can keep all of your settings and bookmarks.
