The reason they're shooting it is to *try* to make it go off.
Typically this would be put in a bomb pit somewhere nearby. From reading the comments this is fairly common practice there. This one nailed it pretty well:
"I know many Jewish Israeli people who had their bag shot just because they left it unwatched for a couple of minutes. Yes, this is the unfortunate reality that Israelis live in, where Palestinian terrorist would do anything (such as put bombs cowardly hidden in laptops) to intentionally hurt innocent civilians. These are precaution measures intended to prevent loss of innocent lives (yes, sometimes at the cost of a cherished laptop because of a possibly careless border officer)."
I so badly wanted to switch to Teksavvy, and I did for a short while. The customer service WAS great. So good they told me the truth that I was +5km from the CO and that the wiring going into my apartment had tons of noise on it:(
Sooo, here I am, still on Rogers. I would love to move somewhere closer to a CO.
I'm almost the same age as Wil, so his insights and stories about growing up a geek all ring very true with me, there's a ton there to relate to.
Also I realized upon reading this interview with Rob and the age of Slashdot, that my daughter is 10 and I've been reading it for as long as she's been alive. Kind of scary but amazing stuff.
Thanks to both of you, and everyone else who's put in tons of hard work to keep this site going.
Damn...I didn't realize until I read your comment, but the long-running joke about "driving your Google to the Google to pick up the latest Google" is in its first steps to becoming an actual reality!
I don't know what their minimum requirement is, but I don't like to maximize my browser window, so I can see what's going on in the background. I have a large screen though, so most sites will fit in a window that's roughly 1024 across...not this site though!
And who doesn't love an article that's broken down into at least 5 separate pages? I know there's nothing I love more than clicking and waiting 5 times, just to read a single article.
They actually tried explaining this with the latest Superboy (who was a half-clone of Superman) by saying he has "tactile telekenisis." Basically the objects that Supes picks up are encompassed by this, and don't become susceptible to structural failure. It's lousy ret-conning, I know:) but the new Superboy actually has this ability, but a bit more enhanced. He can pick up an object, and also tear it apart/manipulate it.
"Is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."
Okay, if every "experience" concludes with a "happy ending," it might be worth the price.
"They've also learned what happens during a magnetic flip. Reversals take a few thousand years to complete, and during that time--contrary to popular belief--the magnetic field does not vanish. "It just gets more complicated," says Glatzmaier. Magnetic lines of force near Earth's surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. But it's still a planetary magnetic field, and it still protects us from space radiation and solar storms."
We already have white-noise generators in the ceiling of my dept, a call centre for a major corporate communications company. They do a nice job of dampening office echo, and creating a nice background noise that's also ideal for falling asleep to.
Other departments sound so quiet after this one. I prefer it.
I love Gaim for this very reason (not to mentiont the switching between the tabbed windows with ALT+1,2,3). One thing I do wish it allowed you to do is turn the "blinking window" off, when someone sends you a new message. I mean, I can easily ignore it, if I'm too busy to answer, but to be able to turn it off altogether, or just have it flash a couple of times would be extra nice.

Yay! I'm still young!
Bah. This is easily remedied by going at night.

It was just following The Second Law of Robotics!
I'm here everyday, though I rarely comment.
I'd also like to thank slasdot for giving Wil that interview, it's one of the two best interviews that have stuck in my mind - the other one being the , if only to read about his fights with William Gibson.

From the great people who brought you pictures of something
Apple^H^H^H^H^H TV Barely Watchable.
Fixed that for you.
No it makes sense...this is why defibrillators transmit sound instead of voltage.... ...oh wait...

I realize some sites have a "printable" link to make the article not as obnoxious if you want to print it.
However that's no justification why the article should be so poorly laid out to begin with.
The best part is PCWorld's site sucks.

I resent that.

Yes. Please make cheques/money orders out to 'Griim'
...from the terrible secret of space!
Maybe someone (and "the guys") took the lander to go pick up some power converters...
I want to know who thought it would be a good idea to have the main page be "/output/Page79.html"
:)
I see the other pages are 47, 53, 55, 65, 57....
This is definitely a website built to governemt spec. Good job boys!

Does that mean we have to get the Earth up to 88mph with a locomotive or it will fall into Eastwood Valley?
It's not a bug it's a featu -- oh nevermind!
