Baloney. Cops are all to complicit in the government's plan to extract ever more money from honest people through excessive traffic ticketing. If cops even gave a little resistance to that it could go a long way. But instead they are just content to sit back and say "well, hey, this isn't our fault, even though we are enforcing bad laws". That is on top of all the outright bulling and lying on tickets that they constantly do. The bottom line is that they generally enjoy having power over people. I'm convinced that pulling people over and acting like assholes adds to their enjoyment a great deal.
I just have to wonder how much resistance city officials will put into something like this. Would any of the corrupt city councils here in the states ever allow Google to do that? If they catch cities that are bad about updating their infrastructure, there could be a backlash against the local government. It could be a whole new way of holding them accountable...
I was excited about Sun's release of Java... and having a Skype client with wifi on that kind of device would be particularly nice. I will certainly not be buying an iPhone without any of those. Unless Apple changes their tune, I will more than likely go with something like a Nokia e90 in the future.
So the moral of the story is that health concerns of drinking flouride far outweigh the crazy commie plot conspiracy theories? Nah... that's way to level headed!
You should consider the Nokia e90 Communicator. Though the price tag is a bit high, personally I think it kicks the crap out of the iPhone in features. It also lacks 3G in the US, but only because it uses a different frequency band.
Abolition of Software Patents is just plainly nonsense.
What's nonsense is the claim that someone can have exclusive ownership over an idea or pattern. It creates a whole bunch of unintended consequences. I fail to see how legislation can fix that.
I am a complete Thinkpad convert after using them for work exclusively for a year and a half. I used to think Thinkpad's design was ugly myself, but they really grew on me. My personal Asus notebook has pretty glossy coating which is very worn now, and looks like crap. The Thinkpads look much less worn after years of use.
I was wondering if someone would mention a Nokia N-series. If you're gonna go around the world, seems like one of those with a bluetooth keyboard would be, by far, the most portable you could hope for and still have an 800x480 screen. I had a N800 for a while. I ended up having to sell it though because I just couldn't get the wifi to connect at work. Kept giving me a stupid link-local ip address. It worked pretty well on my trip to NYC however.
Despite that wifi problem I had, I'm still thinking about getting another one. They are almost just too portable to pass up...
I appreciated your anecdote about meeting Paul at that gold conference. I've never met him, and I also don't agree with him on everything - like abortion, patents, and evolution. But the issues I do agree with him on I think are the most important for this country. I would love to see him veto every spending or tax increase and require a 2/3 majority to pass it. I have a feeling Congress wouldn't have as much of a problem doing that if it were the case though...
I doubt I will vote either, but I have purchased quite a bit of stuff from his online store; mostly to help get the message out to everyone else.
I'm glad his supporters think a President can save the country, and I'll admit that he is the only man up there who truly supports small government and true U.S. Constitutional values, but though zeal is commendable, it is naive to believe he can do anything to fix the problems in Washington. The President is quite hamstrung in most matters without Congressional support, and if Ron Paul were elected President, he would be persona non grata on the Hill, and therefore could get nothing done.
It's not that he can "get anything done". It's that he can use the veto to try and prevent a whole lot of harmful spending legislation. I want someone in there who will veto any spending or tax increases and require a 2/3 majority to pass most things. I think it would be good for the country to have that for awhile.
either a lying racist or so atrociously lazy and irresponsible about reading papers before signing them that it's hard to trust him.
Given the many public statements he has given over 10 terms of public service, I really don't believe he is a lying racist. Even one of the NAACP presidents vouched for him, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
As far as not reading his newsletters go... there are only a handful of statements in there that I feel are truly objectionable. I can understand how someone would miss them. Even if you chalk it up to pure neglect, well every politician makes mistakes. I'm not gonna rake him over the coals for it, any more than I would rake over Bill Clinton for his white house indiscretion.
I'm not making any money from doing this. It generally costs me $4-5 per CD, from shipping costs, seller fees, etc. I see it as a way to pay money for music while getting better quality, DRM free rips.
I'd like to see them somehow prove that I am doing it... guess I should have been posting anonymously, hehe... oh well.
My point was though, that Apple should make an official utility available for free to strip the DRM from tracks you've already purchased. Instead, they charge you extra for that.
My question is whether Apple will release a utility to strip the DRM from previously purchased tracks that they now offer DRM free. I haven't heard that this will be the case. I have about a hundred Itunes tracks purchased with it, that will eventually be worthless.
If they don't, I will use Amazon to purchase individual tracks from now on.
I quit downloading music after napster, because it's a pain to find anything that's not in the top 40.
Now I buy used stuff from Amazon Marketplace, rip, and sell it again. Maybe it's almost as legally dubious as downloading, but to me it's more convenient.

Now those designs are truly ugly. Actually, I thought they were back when they came out too.
Why is this a problem? I actually prefer Thinkpad's brick design; especially the new one of the T60 which is slightly more rounded than the T43.
How do you figure? These prices seem pretty reasonable to me.

Why do you say that? I have read many Obama supporters that feel the same way about smoking pot.
If you feel you must vote, why not write yourself in, rather than choosing between people you don't like?

Yes, that is exactly what I want. I think it would be good for the country if congress had to come up with a 2/3 majority to pass anything...
So I take it that you support the use of military force to solve the world's problems?
Good luck with that... you sir, are the one who is a joke.

Thanks for the info, I might give that a shot.

I wonder if I could patent the art of Slashdot trolling... I could make millions!
If only we could tweak the government to make it do what we actually want, things would be so much better! Ha...
