    Google Goggles is available for install from the Android Market place right now.

    It works great for logos, and can even OCR business cards. Though, it seems to be a tad crashy on the Droid.

    At least most folks that watch CSI and other crime programs. Isn't it cool how TV cops can search and cross-reference all crime databases instantly, from one user interface?

    The real world isn't like that. Local law enforcement agencies don't talk to each other. People with arrest warrants go in and out of jail in other jurisdictions, and no one notices.

    Its been my experience that the lone IT chick will be flooded with attention as long as she is even moderately attractive and has good hygiene. All the geeky boys want to go to lunch with the girl. I'd say the more frequent situation is the lone chick receiving too much attention.

    In a situation where a female struggles to get enough attention from IT guys she must be ugly, smelly, bitchy, or some combination thereof.

    So the NSA could use session cookies to track visitors to THEIR website across multiple vistis?

    Big freaking deal.

    Do people not get that? The cookie was issued by nsa.gov, and could only be read nsa.gov, and in no way could track a user's movements across "teh intarnets." The NSA could use it to see if you'd been to their site before.

    If they NSA wants to know where you've been, they'll just subpoena Google. Their cookies are all over the place.

    At least you realize that you have a responsibility to fufill the commitments you have made.

    You seem to know what is is you need to do, just suck it up, and do it.

    I used to have the same problem back in college. The professional world isn't so forgiving about such behavior as college.

    I finally came to the realization that if I just decided to STFU and do it, life would be better.

    Look at me now, this time I'm spending posting to /. is detracting time from anything else I need to be doing. :)

    If your app is useful to a large number of people, don't worry, it'll be included. The more people it appeals to, the faster it'll be adopted.

    Just let nature take its course. If no one wants to include your package, there is no point in having it included for the sake of vanity.

    If you are fairly confident of its usefulness, include a debian directory, and a rpm spec file in your source. That'll make it easy for people to package.

    And, why when enumerating liberities that are in danger do most people fail to mention the right to bear arms?

    You greatly overestimate the average /. reader. I'd say 75% have no idea why kernel written in java is a bad idea.

    Proof of that is the fact the aforementioned 2.2.4-test1 kernel isn't in the dir with the readme (as of 10:40 est). Only one other person has bothered to post this.

    A java kernel? You just taged yourself as non programmer.

    For java code to run there has to be a JVM loaded. For a JVM to be loaded, there has to be a kernel running. But the kernel is written in java, so there has to be a jvm running. But you can't run a jvm with out a kernel....Loop endlessly.

    You are incorrect. This version does support native threads.

    One must simply set the proper, documented, environment variable.

    To imply that they are, and then try to invoke some racial tension with the statement is poor form. But, we've learned not to expect anything better from LinuxOne.

  23. Another witch hunt! on Corporate vs Open Source:Sun Stealing Blackdown? · · Score: 5

    The Blackdown folks did release their code back to Sun you know. And, the Blackdown project is not an open source project, they license the reference implementation of the JDK from Sun and modify it to run on Linux. Thats why its called the "Java Linux Porting project". Everyone should consider it a good thing that Sun is now taking interest. That means we will finally get a good JVM for Linux, something we have needed for a very long time.
