  1. lithium ion battery/cpu shortages? on Recourse For Poor Customer Service? · · Score: 1

being a premier partner with Dell, when ordering somewhat customized laptops or desktops, I get really late estimated shipping dates due to the amount of CPUs and lithium ion batteries on hand at Dell's factories. one think I will say, is that sometimes Dell likes to discontinue certain models of laptops without telling the customer until it is way too late. or, the particular configuration of your model might have some parts that might be discontinued as well. as much as I like Dell for their excellent warranties (crucial for business customers), their inventory control needs to improve.

It controlled all the nodes and would even act as a failover machine if any of the nodes went down temporarily.. why anyone would need something like this in their home I can't really answer besides the reasons I've already given.. but computers became faster and smaller so nothing really became of the company sadly.. the dream turned in to a small and somewhat efficient home server which you see companies like HP selling.. even that isn't doing too hot.. but I do think a centralized location for all your family's data, such as pictures, movies, letters, and other multimedia is a good thing.. doesn't require a supercomputer though..

ahh yes the idea of personal supercomputing. Back in '99 I worked for Patmos International. We were at the Linux Expo for that year as well if some of you might remember. Our dream was to have a parallel supercomputer in everyone's home. We used mostly Lisp and Daisy for the programming aspect. The idea was wonderful, but eventually came to a screeching halt when nothing was being sold. It was ahead of it's time for sure. you can find out a little more about it here. I find the whole ideal of symbolic multiprocessing very fascinating though.

Well, I ordered one for a client about 3 weeks ago, and was just informed last week that they are being discontinued and the particular model I ordered will not be arriving. I love how you have to wait to the last minute to find out this information. More inventory control needs to be done on their part. As a premier partner, I have slowly and surely gotten more pissed at Dell as of late. I sell their computers because of their excellent NBD warranties with prosupport. but god damn this kind of simple shit has been pissing me off.

Working in a repair shop, the most common infection I've seen in the past couple months has been the rogue antivirus/antispyware products. They usually pose as "Antivirus 2009" or "XP Antivirus 2009". They use extremely generic names. Its funny because every customer that has one of these infections, is usually running Norton, Mcafee, Trend Micro, AVG, or any of them. Not ONE of them from 2008 has been able to rid the rogue product. It's funny too because all you have to do is remove a couple lines in HiJackThis and remove the Program Files folder. Although it has made our repair shop a good amount of money, it is annoying having to tell customers why their AV software can't remove such a silly thing. I've been a strong supporter of Panda Antivirus for many years, and I've always thought all the others are extremely bloated. ESPECIALLY NORTON.. HOWEVER, Norton 2009 has literally done a 180 with its performance. It removed XP Antivirus in no time. It barely uses 1% of your CPU when it is idle, and it updates literally every few minutes. I've been extremely impressed with their latest release and would recommend the noobs out there to try a 15 day free trial. But of course, ultimately running any AV software is a joke if you know how to use your computer correctly and don't download goat pr0n and warez. but fyi, if you would of asked me a month ago about Norton, I would of told you it is ridiculous and extremely bloated crap software, just like the rest.

Working for a MS Gold certified company who specializes in small business deployments and in-shop repair, I must say that I personally remove about 20+ viruses a week the old fashioned way. I've seen some pretty ruthless shit out there, but never something so harsh it required a format. that seems to be a lot of people's solutions, and it is the wrong one. regardless of how long it takes to remove a virus or rootkit, it is always worth it to the customer to keep all their applications and data in tact. In my whole experience with repair, everyone of my virus cleanups isn't because their computer wasn't protected, it was because the user was simply so retarded that they installed something horrible on their machine because they thought they were in danger. you can buy the biggest and bestest AV software, but it still won't protect from even some of the simplest rogue Antivirus products such as XP Antivirus 2009. it is just sad that people subscribe to these products because they aren't doing jack shit. you won't *accidentally* get a virus. you, the user makes it happen. we all know that everything is crackable or can be bypassed eventually, so why are we wasting our time with Antivirus software when we should be properly educating users and their browser habits? As a repairman, it also makes me money when people make mistakes like click on that goat pr0n link, and it is a lesson learned worth paying for a professional to teach.

Chrome's multithreaded idea is a breakthrough in how browsers should work. I would like to see it in Linux because firefox simply likes to crash/close without you even knowing it or without any message even telling you it crashed. it is the quickest and easiest web browser I've used to this day. Firefox and IE will simply steal Chrome's ideas and implement them in their newer versions and everyone will say how cool they are now. all Chrome needs is a Linux and Mac version and the ability for fullscreen browsing and we'll be good to go. go Google!

You either listen to the facts or simply ignore them. In my opinion there probably is a God of some sort out there, because the question of whether or not a God exists is something we will NEVER be able to answer. Evolution is something so magical and amazing that it INSULTS the intelligence of our God to say Evolution isn't real. For he is the one that created the ability of evolution. I was stoked at first because I saw that chrome was only using 8,000k of memory. But then I noticed that there were 3 chrome.exe's running.
