Hi "Joe"
You won't be getting any updates for FC3 since the Fedora Project has dropped support for that. If you like the Fedora distribution you can go with FC6 or wait for May 24 when FC7 is due to be released. Otherwise, Ubuntu is a fine distribution.
Try this:
su -
crontab -e
# cron for root # update system at 4AM daily 0 4 * * */usr/bin/yum update
I fly a small single engine Cessna pretty regularly.
I would run out of gas and die of hypoxia before I reached anywhere near 15000 feet. But hitting that cable would be more exciting than a two liter bottle of Jolt Cola.
I totally agree with your post but I want to clarify a few things.
#1. Burning dead dinosaur goo is "natural", just like horses, cows, etc.
#2. No they are not just as in love with their internet connections as I am. That is not possible. I love mine much more. Don't mess with my internet connection!
You may want to differentiate between idealists and radicals. The true radicals really would give up the conveniences listed as your uncle suggested. Idealists, no.
I started to install Fedora Core 6 and it wouldn't even boot! OH NO! 8^O
I downloaded Core 7 Test 1 and it installed just fine. I have been running with that ever since without any major problems. Life should get even better when most of the devel bugs are fixed FC7 is officially released. You may just need a newer kernel to use Linux.

I'm still running Fedora Core 3 on a server (minor internal use only) and support has ended for FC3 too.
The server still runs great. In fact it now has uptime = 119 days.
Of course that machine is a HP Kayak XA - 400MHz PII - 128MB RAM - 8GB HDD
I like the car analogy as it really illustrates a point, although not the point you desired. "we both win" is in fact true but is there a looser? How about the car manufacturer?
You all are all going around in circles while talking about two distinctly different things.
1) The actual property. ie. in this case a digital copy of a song or movie. Be it the original or a copy.
2) The revenue that was or was not realized by the sale of the rights to that copy.
This distinction is necessary to have an intelligent discussion on this topic.
Although there are clear disadvantages, if or when the LINUX OS reaches double digit market share and continues growth, hardware and software manufacturers will finally take note.
This means games will be written with LINUX versions which is a big plus for adoption. More importantly (for me), brand new cutting edge hardware will be released with either open specs or at least a binary diver for LINUX. This would be a fantastic advantage for groups that manage SANE for scanners and cameras, foomatic for printers, and I don't even know who else. With the virtual elimination of the need for reverse engineering they could focus their efforts on creating a better product.
As you mentioned, there are disadvantages. Our "secure" OS will be subject to more attacks and we will have a less tech savvy user base to defend against those attacks. The less tech savvy user base will be more susceptible to social engineering attacks that can place Trojans and other nasty mal-ware on the system. It is likely that these people will be running as root allowing even more damage to their systems giving LINUX the appearance of being insecure. Their LINUX boxes will get filled up with nasty-ware just like their M$ Windows boxes were when they ran as administrator all the time. Of course the good news is that LINUX will still have fewer attack vectors.
I think what iPaul is driving at is a company can and should maximize it's profits but at the same time *Do no evil*. If it is legal and ethical ie: not killing puppies, then go for it. There does need to be boundaries. Of course in the same breath, those boundaries can be fuzzy.
You are right about that and it was a real eye opener for police all across the country. Things have changed now. I get the impression that SWAT teams seem to be available in every small town, not just big cities.
How do you know if it is the real police? Simple, legit bad guys will number 2 or 3 and have shot guns and/or pistols. Real police will number 12 or more and have fully automatic AK-47's and hand grenades.
I don't. I've been clicking around this darn GNOME desktop thingy all night and I just can't find IE anywhere.
touche!

A^2 + B^2 = C^2
A = 15000 feet
B = some function of wind speed, lift, and weight
C = the length of the extension cord
D = Profit???
I thought that was a VISTA feature?
I just built myself a new PC in February. I thought I was smart.
Intel DP965LT mother board
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8GHz 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache
2GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM
Maxtor 400GB SATA HDD

FACT straight from the bureau of made up statistics: .sig.
2 + 2 = 5 for very large values of 2.
credit to whomever had that in their

Not only would that reduce the O2 in the room but a true PHB would not even suffer any ill or even perceivable effects.
You knew the job (reading /.) was dangerous when you took it.
Ummm. I don't know... Canada?
I'm just taking an (apparently failed) attempt at some humor. Come on. Try to picture the imagery.
Moments before the big eruption, billions of gallons of water come rushing south from the melting arctic glaciers and cool the volcano.
Global warming saves the day!!!
Thanks Al

AGH! Now my secret is out. I'm not a cop. And I suppose you are right. Thanks.

I fell off a bar stool once. I don't remember if it was forwards or backwards.
What are you, some kind of LibertarianWackJob? Oh wait, that's me. Never mind.
GREAT idea! I just wrote to Rep Jeb Hensarling (TX Dist 5) asking him to support HR25.
So could we replace the CIA with the staff from Popular Mechanics?
RTFA...? yeah I know... this is slashdot.
