To me, remote backups are all about the amount of data to be stored, and the rate of change of that data. You don't mention those numbers, so I'll have to assume that your bandwidth/throughput to data-to-store ratio is within acceptable values, and the rate of change is low enough such that after the initial pig of an upload, it's manageable.

Personally, I have a no-name 5U co-lo account with an old Sun Ultra 5 stored there. I basically collect all of my backup data to my local staging area using rsync, and I then rsync the data over to my remote server.

Sure the first time it does it, it borks out a couple of times and takes a bit long to do, but eventually everything gets up there and from then on it's a relatively minor process.

The key is that I don't back up everything... just the stuff I need should my servers melt some day. That stuff includes our code repositories, machine configs, docs, websites, sql databases, etc.

That generally works out well for us, and is nice and cheap, and doesn't require any special sofware, etc.

Seriously, I don't see any legal implications for Google, as they didn't set up the system to sell drugs... it was just an avenue of communication that drug dealers/users took advantage of to sell and buy drugs.

Any form of communication can be used for that purpose... photocopiers, phones, carrier pigeons.... Actually, that's not a bad idea... hmmm...

We bought a crap load of their RX200's, RX300's, and RX600's, and they're a PITA.

That being said, their phone support for Linux was VERY good (at least here in Canada, where you had to call some guy in Toronto). They answered a bunch of questions we had and supplied us with some drivers we needed, but all in all, Linux is a HUGE afterthought for these guys, with Windoze being their main focus.

For that matter, we had a hellish time installing Windows on the boxes.

I'll buy/recommend Fujitsu gear again. I'm very happy with a bunch of IBM blades that we just picked up... can't say enough about xCAT, their Linux cluster management software.

Nothing wrong with defending himself... but pulling out a .45 in a crowded movie theatre exit isn't an option, in my opinion.

Is it OK for him to potentially kill other innocent bystanders in the name of protecting himself? I don't think so.

Besides, if you knew the details of this particular incident, you'd know that these were kids (so he wouldn't be legal to carry anyway) and he didn't see the attack coming... they knifed him from behind.

The video shows that he was walking out of the theatre, and there was no confrontation when he got stabbed. THey walked up behind him and knifed his lower back from behind.

Besides, generally speaking, 95% of people with guns DON'T KNOW HOW TO FUCKING SHOOT THEM properly, or with any accuracy... in controled environments, never mind in a "scary" situation.

I've been a competitive handgun shooter for years, and when training for the Summer Games, we used to "compete" with the local RCMP/cops for practice... they stopped coming out because they could hardly even hit our targets (really small) never mind score any points, and were really embarrassed. (They used to say it was because we had guns specific to target shooting, so we tried swapping one day... nope... that wasn't it... we kicked their asses with their own guns).

I've also seen so many shootings where there were 6-8 shots fired, and the target got winged in the leg.

    It's pathetic.

(Note to gangsta-wannabees... if that's your job, then learn how to use your tool of the trade properly and take some pride in your work... geesh!)

And with that said, the LAST thing I'd want to see is this victim try and fire a gun back at the perpetrators when they're in the exiting throng of a movie theatre. Odds are that 5 other people that weren't related to the incident would get nailed before the perps did.

Hell, I don't trust most people to have the sense and abilities to DRIVE, never mind carry and use a loaded gun in public.

Unlike Zoo Parade, Wild Kingdom was shot on film almost entirely in the field, and featured encounters with wildlife in their natural habitat. Indeed, one of the program's signature features was the footage of Marlin Perkins, or his assistants Jim Fowler and later Stan Brock, pursuing and at times physically engaging with the wildlife-of-the-week, whether that meant mud-wrestling with alligators, struggling to get free from the vice-like grip of a massive water snake, running from unexpectedly awakened elephants or seemingly angered sea lions, or jumping from a helicopter onto the back of an elk in the snows of Montana.

My all-time "Darwin Award Nominee" is that Jim guy from the old Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

The old guy (Merlin?) is back at the studio, all nice and safe, and he describes the adventures of Jim, the guy in the field.

I specifically remember the episode where Jim's in a small rowboat in some small water (pond or slow river) looking for Annacondas. Lucky them, they see the head of one in amongst some leaves/etc at the top of the water. The idiot proceeds to CLIMB INTO THE WATER to get the thing.

Now, I'm betting that this snake turned out to be WAY bigger than Jim was thinking it was, as he started to get a little "nerveous" as the thing started to coil up around him. The snake looked about 30 feet long and a good 400 lbs.

Before you know it, it's got a couple of big-ass loops around Jim and they're starting to roll around in the water, and Jim's starting to REALLY try and stay above water and get back in the boat, and all the while Merlin is giving the "old guy" running commentary like this is nothing new. "Look as Jim heroicly struggles to get the snake in the bag so we can take it ashore and analyze it a little closer."

Jim was as crazy as Steve Erwin (Crikey!), but in a more reserved, 70's, quiet manner.
