Since when did the MPAA become a "enforcement body"? We already have the FBI. The MPAA should not have th authority to open up my PRIVATE mail to see whats inside. I do not know the legality of the rights of users of mail carriers, but I suspect that they should need a WARRENT to inspect my baggage. My baggage, if it did contain illegal DVDs, would not cause any threat to the carrier or its surroundings, so their is no just cause to inspect my baggage because of how a dog smells it. This is the MPAA trying to go past its privileges as a copyright holder, and not an inspecting or enforcement body. Leave it to the FBI to handle mass piracy issues, since theirs a FBI warning on the DVDs. And we all know that the FBIs top priority is the piracy of $10 DVDs, and not anti terrorism, or homeland security.
Does anestetics apply to the final product? How does eye candy improve your productivity?
I believe OO.o does a fine job of adhereing to proper anestetics. Just because there are no shiny rollovers or fading of menus, doesn't mean the product doesn't complete it's purpose properly.
The problem may be a result of bad information handling by the product. The standards of OSS are much higher than a closed product, due to the ability of community reaction. You may want to try a OSS office suite, and compare that to the use of MSWord. I believe this would be a good point of comparrsion. If MSWord is found to better handle large documents, then maybe OSS suite might need some updating.
You bring up a very good point. MSOffice may be a very good product in your eyes, but you have to take into the cost effectiveness of OO.o vs. MSOffice. MSOffice retails for around $200 dollars, and is developed by a large scale company. The calibar at which OO.o is developed just displays the advantages of OO.o.
If you do not transition between OO.o and MSOffice, there are no significant problems, but why should we have to adjust our open standards to meet the needs of a closed standard product. Things are so much simplier when you remove MS from the picture entirely.
Another point to note is that OO.o is under no release restrictions. MSOffice requires commericial distrobution, usually once a year release.
Congrats on the release, but I have to say that OO.o still is the leader in OSS office suites.
ODF has pushed a long way since I first heard about it, but without support from the industry, their will be no pressure against Microsoft to implement it into MSOffice.
Hopefully Google and Writely will tip the edge toward ODF.
I worked for an AMC Theatres for about 2 years back in High School. It was a pretty bad job, but needed the money. Well when I got up into doing booth (ran projectors), I got like a 10 cent raise. We were handling the FILMS that are worth millions of dollars, and I got 10 cents. The moral is, the Movie Theatres could care less what movies they are playing, and what quality, they just want their concessions sales. They would try to bribe us with weird things to try and get our sales times/speed/amount up so the managers can get a bonus. The Movie Theatre system is a HORRIBLE sysem right now, and hopefully it will crumble on itself.
When I get some nice MsOffice interpolarity, it will still be a weak program. I still have formating problems with OO.o, and it's starting to become agrevating.
I did in fact read the entire PDF. It was interesting read with some very technical details. Alot of the information is very relevant to working on a document. A lot of users only use the icons as a source of editing. If they can't find the icon, they have to go wander through menus, which cause some hassle. I would like to be able to see more drag and drop functions. He stated in his PDF that he would like to integrate the concept of "desk space". Mimic how you would handle many documents spread out on your desk. This can be very influencial in how the mouse interacts with the documents.
It will be a nice concept, that will hopefully spawn more user friendly and easier to edit documents. I don't know how many times, I use OO.o, and wonder why they haven't tried anything new when it comes to GUI. There are a lot of problems with programs failing to try and "learn" the habits of a specific user. If I happen to use a certain tool a lot more than others. I want the icon to be on the toolbar if it isn't already. They are making improvements, but it will be a while before a dynamically created GUI specific to a user is automatically done over time.
When the program is your COMPLETE bitch, only then is it right to use.
What happens if Microsoft doesn't get consent from the EU? Does Microsoft Windows become illegal to sell, produce, or distribute in the EU? I guess it's not really clear in the whole argument between EU and Microsoft, what they are truly fighting for...
Sorry for the post of a post....but heres more information taken from Gamespy Article
"To this end, they created the Aquinas Protocol, a TCP/IP-like low-level packet-routing scheme. Through great media fanfare and government backing, they were able to build Aquinas into the backbone of almost every digital network on the planet, allowing them to physically route all global communications through a massive monitoring station underground at Area 51."
"Saman knows the truth about the Illuminati, the Helios A.I., and the Aquinas Protocol. It is possible that this knowledge is what turned him against Her Holiness and the Illuminati-controlled Order in the first place."
Taken from the Wikipedia Article on Deux Ex, a video game. I don't know anything futher about the the game....
I don't feel allofmp3.com is "stealing". They are providing a service which in their country is techincally legal. So, that's atleast more "legal" than other ways of stealing it.
Besides the morality of the situation, I find allofmp3.com a very nice business model. If others were to adapt that business model they would profit, seeing how allofmp3.com is still in profitable business. I dont mind paying a dollar an album. Charge me a dollar, for no work at all, and give the artist their "underpaid" 4 cents, and then the other 96 cents can go towards running the website. Fair deal, and the real workers can be "properly" compensated.
If I was Honda, I would charge them $500/month for testing, and then after testing is over, give the family back the money, and give them a new car. Probably not the testing vehicle, for obvious reasons.
This really doesn't seem like a big story...Another text editor...and for Windows? Troll mod me away!

I highly doubt that statement is true. Condensation has nothing to do with thunder or lightning.
mod parent up++

No worries, it comes prepackaged in Vista
