The wording is a little strange in places, because I think it was written originally in german. It's a great book. Very easy to understand, given the subject matter. The theories are explained through a narrative, and the math and derivations are left out when practical.

Almost all your points were good--labor costs, restrictive labor laws, etc... But one thing America doesn't have is high taxes.

In the end, I think all the garbage that leads manufacturing jobs to go outside the US is a good thing. It leads to a true globalization of the economy. Instead of a a bunch of isolated, self contained countries, we have global interaction. The fact that China or whomever can manufacture stuff cheaper leads American corporations to move their manufacturing plants to that country (When the US government doesn't interfere), and that is capitalism on a global scale.

  16. Re:Well.. on A Robot Learns To Fly · · Score: 3, Insightful

This evolution claim is so much bullshit. The robot already had wings, and was given the instructions on how to move them. A more accurate comparison would be when a bird finally decides to leave the nest--how long does it take to figure out how to fly then? Certainly not 3 million years. I don't know exactly how long it takes, but I'd guess that a bird does in a matter of hours what this machine did.

If the scientists threw together a bunch of spare parts, and watched as a robot magically constructs itself, decides a useful thing to do would be learning to fly, and then takes off--well that could be compared to millions of years of evolution. And you know what? It'd never happen. Not without some "divine" intervention on the part of the scientists.
