if by "near-daily" you mean "near-monthly", i agree with you. they have moved to a monthly release cycle, not all of which require rebooting. like yesterdays round didn't. also, driver updates are not part of the "critical" set. you have to manually choose them.
will be interesting to see if they just tuck it into their already fat (sorry) patent portfolio or actually try to collect on it. i doubt the later will be the case, as FAT so old and is already used everywhere by everyone. i don't even see much use as a pre-emptive patent. i can't see anyone suing anyone for using it.
google = do some evil apple = think evil microsoft = be evil sony = root for evil sco = sue for evil dell = build evil intel = evil inside -> evil ahead
excellent point. i laugh every time i go to bangladesh and see people wearing "nice" and "rebok" shoes. harmless really. but then i read about counterfiet similac and counterfiet powdered milk. making a competing product is fine. but hiding behind another brand lets you capitilize on that brands good name and lets them take the heat for your crappy product. it's not easy to track down who made the fake from a consumer standpoint. i'm all for 3rd party products (like toners), but faking the brand name is rarely done for good reasons.
i bet they weren't *real* laptops and mp3 players. most of the knockoff electronics are simply made to look legit, not function. i doubt you can make a functioning powerbook for much cheaper than apple. i remember my uncle brought me this "video recorder" once (long story about how he got it). it totally looked like a sony handycam. but when you pressed eject, the space was for an audio cassette. sure enough, i put in a tape and it played back the audio. in the front was a film camera. i'm not sure why they went through the time to design all of that. clearly this is not a case of "the only difference was the label". i've also seen a minolta slr that totally looked legit also, til i noticed the thumbwheel to wind the film. i agree that a lot of products, especially non-electronics are often simply label-whoring. but most electronics items don't have the mark up that prada bags do. btw, if you go to chinatown, you will find that the quality clearly well below the real ones. but a fake prada bag will still hold your stuff as well as a real one. that fake camcorder couldn't record video.
like when the president interrupts my favorite tv show to annoy sane people with is blabbering about osama, september the 11th, and various lies about about how spying on americans is legal. there are quite a tv trolls in fact. pretty much all the pundits.
and to think the RIAA tried to stop diamond from releasing the pmp300. my fiance still uses it from time to time. they are so short sighted it's amazing. they tried to stop the audio cassette, which later became a huge cash cow. the mpaa tried to stop the vcr, which also became a huge revenue source. they started out with lawsuits as an answer, and haven't change a bit.

although blowing up a picture in photoshop across 4 screens won't be as useful as having it on one big screen. same goes for watching video. i have a dell 2001fp that doubles as a tv monitor. i have it hooked up via s-video to my cable box. it's not as nice as a real lcd tv (no remote), but hell of a lot cheaper and wastes less space in my bedroom. the dell 30 has component inputs making it even better for this purpose.
you are right. you are a fanboy. you should do some research before making blanket statements like "apple displays are better than dell's". i'm guessing you haven't read this:
http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2 400&p=11
you are also advocating buying an apple refurb vs a new dell. not only is that a lame comparison (this used honda is cheaper than this new toyota), but goes down the tubes when you factor in a beefy dell coupon. if you want to buy apple out of principle, buy apple. but don't try to justify it by kidding ur'self.
perhaps the average/.er has noone to talk offline, but half an hour a day is not a crazy amount of time to to be on the phone. on top of that, a lot of people use their cell phones instead of paying long distance charges on their landline. also, most people people pay for their own phone, not work. many carry two, one work and another personal.
"People don't choose Linux over Windows.."
exactly, most people don't chose any OS. they use whatever comes shipped. debating which is better is only preaching to the choir.
at home, yes. with computers becoming the digital dumpster for pictures, audio and video you will never have enough storage. though that's assuming they are. my parents have a 80GB drive from last year. over 60gb of that is still free. and at work, most users don't work with multimedia. we only have 3-4 users (out of over 150) that have more than 5GB of files. this includes email. and speed, the fastest sd cards can read/write about 22MB/sec these days. they will only get bigger/faster/cheaper/smaller/etc. for the server or any other uber-storage needs, hard drive will always be the cheaper solution. but going solid state will allow computers to get smaller and quiter, much closer to the "appliance" people are looking for.
correction, you may not buy or own the movie. you may however buy a license to view our content. the quote will be altered to say "i'de license that for a dollar" in future releases of the film. a message from your friendly media giant.
i have one. the design is very nice, as are the features and specs. however, windows mobile 5 is still very raw. lots of issues like disappearing sd/cf cards and you end up soft resetting a lot. a new firmware just came out yesterday, not sure how much it fixes. the bluetooth in wm5 is also very crappy. check out www.aximsite.com . they have some great forums there. i've seen the x51v as low as $250 with coupons. hard to beat.
watching the video, anyone else get flashbacks of the scenes of the future in bill and ted's excellent adventure? i can just see the air guitaring now.
that's why all gnu/linux apps are easy on the eyes/ears,right? microsoft is starting to learn that you can't have programmers be your stylists/composers. besides, it's not like they don't have the funds. they realize computers are no longer just for work or getting stuff done. apple has shown that a nice looking computer (inside and out) is appealing for incorperating into your lifestyle. this is where microsoft wants to go too. same reason dell went to htc to design most recent axim. you can't just sell the steak, you gotta sell the sizzle too.

dude, stop being such a microsoft fanboy.

this is why monopolys are bad period.
but then it's less fun. btw, the pull out method does not work.
sounds like "matchbook". signifies the move to intel processors..

the "britney spears" cover should have tipped you off that it wasn't really music

that $300 savings looks pretty good to me. i guess green isn't your color. nor is math your strength.

now we can make sure we kill everyone before moving along.

maybe he wasn't refering to average new one. maybe the average notebook out there.

i can't see dell shipping machines overlocked from the factory like this one. seems more like CES candy, like the 105 plasmas.
