i used to do the same thing. i had broadband for a few months back in 99, then didn't get again after i moved. i spent a lot of time at work anyway (a university) so i did my downloading there. i didn't work from home, and not having good access at home forced/let me do other things with my time. it wasn't a bad thing at the time. not being able to work from home might be a plus in some peoples' book. of course now that i do have it, i end up working from home a lot and i spend a lot of time online in general. same reason i liked not having a cell phone. being hard to reach can be good and bad.
whatever he is smoking, i want some of it. this is the most outlandish idea i have ever heard. apple doesn't just sell software, it doesn't just sell hardware. apple sells a package. the mac with OS X, the ipod with itunes. this won't change no matter how wet dvorak's dream may be. but the headline was a good chuckle.
the problems is, how do you know how many taps are done if they won't tell you or even get a warrant. how do you know if it's for terrorism? maybe martin luther king was a terrorist, so it was ok to tap him. sorry, this is not blown out of proportion.
i guess you might say that about the buddists and hindus in sri lanka, where most of the terrorism is commited. it's just not against any western country, so it's not all over the news.
most muslims condems this type of violence, and are quite ashamed. it's not heavily reported because it doesn't make for good tv and doesn't fall in line with the current agenda. it's important to polarize the two sides so they can't see any good in each other. i'm not faulting our leadership/press exclusively. the same exact thing is happening on the on the other side. the leadership on bothe sides are profiting from this type of hate and ignorance. let's not feed it. btw, by your logic, Jesus was a war-mongering, pro-death penalty, anti-education, white-supremisist (he's not even white). just because there is a segment of the population (who happens to be in power) inteprets the religion in a slanted view does not mean the religion actually promotes these views.
all you are stating is that itunes drm has the loosest handcuffs. no thanx.
i kind of like having multiple shopping options for buying stuff. why should music be any different?
i don't know about the interface being patented, it looks a lot more like the winamp media library interface than itunes.
it is kind of interesting to read the posts as/.ers are caught between open source love and apple love.
do u have to pay taxes on the 10k worth of songs? i can understand the rest, but the songs are not a physical gift, and the money never comes to you. it's more like 10k worth of free downloads. of course if they give u a gift card that you can sell, i can understand having to pay taxes on that. if it's just putting a bunch of credits in your account, it would really suck to pay taxes on that. especially if you don't "redeem" all of it.
they pretty muched owned the edu market through the "apples for the students" program. even if there were some pcs in a school, they never got used since a lot of the in house "techs" were either teachers or students. the counter to this was that parents often used on pcs at work. since there wasn't an "apples for the home" program, they bought what was familiar and cheap. besides, for what most people do, the OS really doesn't matter as much anymore since the differences are shrinking. the familiarity arguement is almost mute.
but 3 albino kids soaking in water told the RIAA that this woman was planning on buying a computer to pirate music so they sent tom cruise after her. thank god for these pre-emptive lawsuits!
nice that you happened a spare laserjet printer lying around. some places you have to get budget approval, get 3 price quotes, and then finally buy one with a purchase order.

rerip compressed audio? now that is disturbing!
so i don't even have to be online for hackers to get into my files? sweet!
I thought it stored an index. I know this is bad enough, but if it was actual copies would be at least get a free back up out of it.
i think this is the most productive setup, unless you're rooming with someone you can't stand.
you're right. martin luther king and his wife really needed to be tapped. they were up to no good.

umm.. sri lanka? the tamil tigers?

donno, isn't it the fastest growing religion?
yeah, just cuz bill o'reilly said so doesn't make it true. ever try reading the old testament sometime? wasn't very rosy.
nah, the troops do it for free college tuition...

and boy are his arms tired.... sorry. i'll go back to my corner now.

ogg won't play on a lot of portable music players. i'm assuming this will install on most computers..

i'm assuming she doesn't have broadband either. what ip address did they use to find her? just goes to show how stupid these lawsuits are.
