the reason its not in a sub directory is because it would index its self sending it into infinity... then again u could probably set it not to index that part but why would u want a backup to be on the same drive anyways? the whole point is to back up ur data to have it safe for if the main drive fails... they just added in the going back in time part to sell it. dont be cheep get a external 500 gig drive for 100$ (i think thats what there down to when there on sale)

way to get the most posts on /. post something about apple and vista ... but seriously if apple released it then it would of been as buggy as vista if not worse... they waited worked out bugs and didn't implement drastic programming changes at the last second. on the other hand vista was in beta for years then the last second they did drastic and dramatic changes.

take the hdd out and say you can not let them see the contents of the drive dew to sensitive data. then if they say they need it to do the repair ask them for their security clearance level. of course you have to keep as straight of a face as possible and say i am serious. then just stare at them and they most likely will fix it if they state a clearance level then say thats not a level and say they can be arrested for falsifying security clearance levels. that or get a other hdd and install windows vista back on it and take it back into them or install XP for all i care. :) social engineering is amazing. of course you have to be dressed your best when you do this. (i did it to HP here in the states because they refused to repair my main board with out the HDD so it is essentially the same thing) also look over the waranty papers and see if it says anywhere about that. also there i do believe is a law in London that says prevents them from doing this. falls under the same law as cell phones locked to a carrier.

last time i checked it doesnt take 9 hours to fix a NIC, or even scan the network for what computer is putting out crap all over. if it was a "bad NIC" that caused it then there would of been major warning signs on the machine its self (that and most the times that i have ever seen a NIC fail the OS just says F-it and disregards it) i have seen it cause routers (linksys and so on)to reboot but routers like those are not like managed switches in networks like the ones the airport should have. not to mention it was a DT computer they say and last time i checked most computers at airports are just terminals not full blown desktop pc's... but i do agree with the fact that one NIC would not take out a whole network. it could take part of it out but not the whole thing

you can look at this in many different ways like he found the bug so he should get paid for finding a issue with the OS and paid to help protect the OS from exploits, on the other hand he should also release the information to the manufactures in a timely matter before releasing it on the web. yet if you look at the wonderfull world today everyone wants to piss people off. apple is easy to find bugs and security issues because majority of the OS is open , PC's you have to dig and dig for them (then again MS does make enough of their own with their patches that no one really needs to mess up windows anymore they just do it their self) oh well apple will probably fix it as soon as he releases it into the wild... where did he get 1500 macs running 10.4.9?
