I work for a contracting company, and here in NZ, cost is about $1,000 per joint. Problem is, you can only have so many joints in a cable (especially the big ones), and then you have to rip up many kilometres of cable and lay new stuff... $$$!
A number of comments on the page linked claimed that the screen shots are ugly, with bad fonts etc. To me, they look fine - antialiased and the whole thing is a lot nicer than any Windows XP screen I've seen. It's clean and doesn't distract me.
I agree with you except for one thing - I believe Mr Smith is looking for a brand that he recognises even more readily, such as HP or Dell. So it doesn't really matter what is inside the box.
Note that my intent wasn't to disagree with your post, merely to point out that it is a bit late to want to change the license after already agreeing to it (in this instance).
It doesn't really matter what your philosophy is on whether the GPL is right or not though - if you choose to use this software, which has this license, you must comply...
As a user, my life is made easier by the result of the developers' work. If it is easier for them to do this work, I'm sure that every user will see a benefit.
You the salesperson should have offered a Redhat/Suse/Other brand mousetrap, of which one of the primary features is the reliable Linux triggering mechanism. This is the same as buying a Dell PC with an Intel processor.
And for those of us who want to customise, we get all the parts and put them together ourselves.:)
My first reaction is that the company is scum. It tries to bury the truth instead of dealing with it. But it is essential to know whether or not her claims are in fact false before questioning the validity of the suit.
Well said. It surprises me how many people jump to the conclusion that a company is lying through it's teeth based on information from the only group known to be worse... the media.
Don't knock it until you've tried it...
And its windows only which makes it DOA for me.
I guess you missed the part about it being cross platform and the Linux version expected in February...
With a Mac port, surely Linux can't be too far away?
There's this old proverb about squeaky wheels and grease...
I believe there's also one about the person who sticks his head up the highest getting it knocked off... or something...
That is the most insightful comment I have ever read on Slashdot.
Just because accountants can't put a value on it until the company is sold doesn't mean it isn't the same thing! That's why its called goodwill!
... is covered by your existing license. A new version of Windows requires a new purchase.

That is absolutely awful.
Thanks for brightening my day!

Do people really think this is ugly? Why?

Depends on the woman's breasts, no?
Wouldn't it be kinda hard to patent that when you have no idea how to go about it?
