    ...especially in the case of LITTLE CHILDREN. Seriously -- this is one case where "think of the children" is a completely valid argument (as opposed to video games being the cause of all problems -- that's poor parenting, so bugger off). EVERY PARENT tells their children to be wary of strangers (not to mention the touchy-feely kind); but now all of a sudden it's perfectly all right for a guy in a uniform to feel up a kid?

    So this is gonna be our generation's legacy... move over Vietnam, you're _nowhere_ near as fucked up as this.

    Furthermore, the parents should have made a whole lot more of a fuss whilst this was going on...

    That will be followed by the survivors being horrified of what they have seen and done, and swearing "never again", but a few generations later things will deteriorate again.

    Sometimes it doesn't even take that long -- The Great War ends 1918, and WWII starts in 1939. Can't find the data for the early 20th century... though in the States (ca 2007 data) a "generation" is approx 25 years.

    I, for one, had the honour of meeting a couple of soldiers from WWII -- one of whom being my wife's grandfather. I never got a chance to talk much about the war -- just some of the "big" things that they had done (Normandy, liberating some French town(s), etc) that they had received a medal or some other recognition for.

    However, to paraphrase what Mr. Adams said:
    The universe is infinitely vast, and there's life on a finite subset of planets. As we all know, anything divided by infinity is zero; so there is no life in the universe.

    I think the point is (was) that there was a long time where finding a demo of a game was a nightmare (still is in most cases), and the best option was (is...) to go pirate a copy -- with the end result being maybe purchasing it later (have done this, though since i can't be bothered to fight M$ anymore I just get PS3 games, and let the 7 yo PC handle email, etc and a few games on WINE).

    There are some companies that I have enough faith in to buy something of theirs without a demo as their games have historically been great (Bioware, Blizzard*). On the other hand, there's some companies out there that I don't know if they make a good product unless I take a $50 gamble, or get a demo (Stardock, for example).

    Technically as long as they were on public land, they're allowed to do whatever they please -- same as you or me (assuming you're in the states; within the limits of the law, ofc.. though as with everything YMMV).

    Now, since they were apparently AT the station (ie non-public land) the rent-a-cops (and the police, by extension) weren't doing anything 'wrong' with asking them to leave/not take pictures. This might even go so far as to allow the arrest the journalists (ie, throw them in the back of a squad car, maybe take them to the police station) until personal information can be verified (note that this would not allow for prison, etc... just short jail time at the worst; up this way the maximum they can hold you is something like 24 hours).

    * Administrative License Suspension (ALS) for a prohibited BAC;
    * ALS for test refusal = one year license suspension;
    * Jail - minimum of 3 consecutive days or 3 day driver intervention program at own expense
    * Fine - minimum $250 and not more than $1,000
