The "accessmylibrary" link has some kind of account creation to go through, so I didn't bother. Perhaps if they had used pictograms...
However, the Krugman link seems to be from the same source.
Maybe we should discount remarks from the president of the Toronto-based Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association, who claimed that the educational level in the Southern United States was so low that trainers for Japanese plants in Alabama had to use "pictorials" to teach some illiterate workers how to use high-tech equipment.
Maybe we should indeed, since Krugman doesn't source this comment himself, and the comment was apparently made by someone who had an axe to grind. (Meaning, he's criticizing Toyota's choice of locating in Alabama vs. Canada.)
As an animal lover - and I mean that in precisely two different ways - I believe that Peta is wrong in its philosophy, and its actions.
First, I believe you can treat animals ethically and humanely without assigning them "rights." Animals cannot claim their rights (as we understand them). If given, they cannot exercise them. (Except, of course, the right to life.)
Second, even though Peta has some right ideas, their love of shock theater can make even sympathetic people cringe. They are at their best when putting up billboards against chaining up dogs. And doing the most good, probably. Flinging fake blood at people, though...
I can't speak for the GP, but it doesn't necessarily have to be about morality, or looking down on others, or a judgmental attitude. The fact is, the incidence of this disease can be limited through the avoidance of anal sex, and to a lesser degree, use of condoms. Sorry if the simple facts don't conform to your morality.
it all started harlmessly enough with "adding cell-reprogramming genes to adenoviruses"... THEN CAME THE ZOMBIES!!!!!!! SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD!!!! SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD!!!!
Then, of course, the stem cells caused their head to grow back...
Left wingers are just as happy to surrender their civil rights.
And let's not forget about living in fear of marring the environment. In a few years, you will not be able to manufacture (and by extension, purchase) a regular old light bulb. Which side of the political spectrum was responsible for that?
I have to wonder what the comments would be like if Republicans reported that they suffer from poor mental health, or slightly below average mental health.
Not to mention that from all appearances (I may be contradicted later), Sarah Palin's beliefs are probably pretty much mainstream among regular church-goers. The people really excoriating Palin are mostly militant atheist types who currently have the Democrat party's balls in a vise. People who are middle of the road, or undecided, look at such dialog and think the Democrats must be friggin' lunatics. Of course, most of them aren't movie stars, or have blogs, or news shows on MSNBC... but they do have numbers.
Since Wikileaks is apparently swamped right now - and I can find only smatterings elsewhere - can anyone tell us what government-related communications are exposed?
Education tends to lead people to liberalism, especially at colleges comprised of a more diverse student body beyond the local community or beyond state lines.
I have to object to this notion. The student body at most universities is less diverse than most local communities. The students are generally the same age, listen to the same kind of music, and in large hold the same set of opinions and beliefs. The college community is a great insulator from the outside world (where the real "diversity" is).
I think the real problem that conservatives have with academia is the unrelenting push to make students conform to what the professors believe.
But then I realized that the Democrats had a point and it DOES take a long time to get that oil out of the ground. So it would be better to get it out now...
No, we drill until we have almost gotten to the oil. Then, when we really need it, we can just turn the drills on again. Kind of like dialing "9-1" when answering the door in the middle of the night.
Sandylynn Williams had voted in every election since she was 18. But this time, election officials confused her with her sister -- a felon who had once used Williams's name -- and refused to let her vote.
Wow. The Republicans went to the trouble of framing her sister, then forcing said sister to assume a false name. That's a lot of trouble to suppress a vote!
For those of you who did not look...

Or, he doesn't want you to find out he's a pirate.
Hmmm... "We are the knichts who say 'nik'!" ... not quite the same.
It's in the southern hemisphere - did you try right-clicking?
I was in quite the lighthearted mood when I saw it!
And don't expect to see Ebony White - at least without some kind of make-over.
Actually, I believe it's : If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did He make them out of meat?

That reminded me of the almost Zen-like TRS-80 Level 1 error messages:
And let's not forget about living in fear of marring the environment. In a few years, you will not be able to manufacture (and by extension, purchase) a regular old light bulb. Which side of the political spectrum was responsible for that?
Holy cow, I forgot about the 9/11 Troofers, surely the most deranged fear-mongers since... well, 9/11.
Don't hear much about them now. I wonder why some intrepid reporter doesn't ask Barack Obama if he believes 9/11 was an inside job?
I have to wonder what the comments would be like if Republicans reported that they suffer from poor mental health, or slightly below average mental health.
No plot!
"threatening nerd"
Thanks, that's my moment of Zen for the day.

Or, just scroll down.

It's been almost 30 years - let's leave Jimmy Carter alone, already!
What's worse than a Vice-President with minimal executive experience?
A President with minimal legislative experience.
