BMI is the worst measure to gauge obesity, there are many factors that need to be considered to determine obesity. I workout 5 times a week for more than an hour each session, weights and cardio, I don't smoke, don't drink, eat healthy. I am broad shouldered. Yet according to the BMI I am obese. My son who studies Human Movement and podiatry tells me that the BMI is the biggest load of crock ever.

I agree, but in general the population would refer to both as 'Ausweis', at least in occupied Holland they did. My point is that devices such as these can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. In the end you also needed a valid one to obtain food stamps, which was a real problem if you had gone underground. My Aunt, bless her Soul, developed into a master forger who supplied many an 'illegal', as the Germans called them, with picture perfect copies. Not that it really mattered in the end as there was precious little food to go around anyway.

The 'Ausweis' was a great Enabler of all that though, without a valid Ausweis you could be, and often would be, deemed to be one of any 'inferior' origins. There was an enormous effort in the 'underground' movements throughout occupied Europe to come up with 'clean' Ausweis material to give people a safe identity.

However the process of pumping water out of the low lying areas in the Netherlands is referred to as 'malen', guess what? That is also used to refer to grinding, as in the other function mills used to have. A pumping station still is referred to as a ‘gemaal’. If a windmill is positioned close to water then you can bet your boots it was used as a pump, the ones found within towns and villages where used as corn mils etc.

Don't fully agree with that. The audience he wrote this for consisted of (young)children, who needed to be put at ease since Tolkien did not shield them from scary subjects. Even to the extend that one of the main characters dies in battle. To that effect he projects the fears of his audience on Bilbo, often in a very light-hearted manner. It is through the empathy for Bilbo that his young audience is guided through these very adult concepts. It shows how serious he takes children.
