I noticed about 10 years ago CDs became very easy to scratch not the bottom but the top. I wonder if this was by design to produce more sales? If so then the recording industry owes the consumers money

Actually, the "top" of the CD is more important than the bottom. The actual data is burned into the very thin layer of writeable material thats on the "bottom" of the top layer of the CD. Try scratching off the pretty picture from a music CD and see if it plays.

I too am afraid that Microsoft will attempt to quash any attempts to provide inter operability between different IM providers and will likely succeed since it will control the lion's share of IM accounts. Although Google has the lion's share of the search market, they at least provide or try to provide inter operability with other companies and do not try to lock competitors out of a particular business model.
While not having interoperability between IM clients sucks, thats still not limiting consumer's ability to freely access competitor's IM services.

I would imagine it depends on what their definition of "educational" boils down to. Sure, there is something to be said about music appreciation, but is 100 gigs of the latest shit entirely necessary for it? What genres of music are covered under music appreciation? Is there a time limit on determining "appreciation" and just listening to the new release of some artist?

In the same vein, back when I was in high school, my parents were in charge of running the concession stand during football games, so my mother dealt with a Coke rep to get deals on the 20 oz bottles, cans, and fountain canisters of soda. She would routinely be able to get a cheaper price on the 20oz bottles and 12 oz cans at kroger versus buying them directly through Coke. The rep that we bought the other stuff through found this hilarious.
