    1. A team south of the Mason-Dixon line doesn't deserve to win the cup according to some canadians albeit the team probably has more canadian players than the opponent.

    3. Winnipeg and Quebec deserve their teams back.

    5. If your team loses there must be something wrong with the referees (universal)
    6. If you're seeing a blackhawks homegame on tv in Chicago you're on drugs.
    7. If the other stanley cup finalist has an european captain they will lose.
    8. If you don't speak french and play for the Canadiens you're shit out of luck when it comes to the media. Mon dieu.
    9. Russians stop playing after they get a big contract.
    10. Pronger debunks newtonian physics and comes up with his own. Don Cherry praises him for it since he's a good canadian boy with a heart of gold.

There's probably even more which I forgot as usual but in general when hockey fans start arguing about the sports logic is the 1st casualty and truth the 2nd but it's like that with most sports. Slingbox deal is a step in the right direction but what I'd really like them to come up with is a streaming service where one could just watch the games you want for a modest fee but I really doubt this will happen anytime soon.

After that I've gone through Elisa's cable and DNA's dsl which both have been ok regarding relatively high traffic and the companies seem more interested in getting their money on time rather than being fascists like on student networks. I guess one has to do some serious bulk leeching to get the ISP's attention here although it's still small potatoes compared to what the oversocial swedes are doing with BBB.

Nhl has also made a deal with youtube regarding highlights of the games so I have a vested interested in google winning the case. I need my daily dose of hockey violence so please google win the case.

Compared to for example batmud the learning curve isn't bad and you don't have to script the client for ages to get going either but if you want to be pampered that's another matter. In fact what's annoying in eve is that the anarchy doesn't include the channels and one has to be somewhat conscious of the amount of bs used (no real roleplaying). You can blow people up but calling them gay is bad. I doubt a real pirate would make such distinctions and thus the immersion isn't there if you really are into 'the role'. Overall it's a highly addictive game and part of it is the freedom to make your own mistakes.

It's quite reassuring that at least some nation still has the right idea when it comes down to the intellectual crutch used to clamp down on civil liberties. Unfortunately they've missed at least one of the most visible muslim terrorists in their country. His name is Don Cherry. You only have to see his clothes to understand that he is really trying to fit in but still doesn't have a clue when it comes down to keeping it low key. He keeps using terms like 'hitting' which I have to assume is a code for something far more sinister and there's always a bodycount involved at some point. If my sources are correct he also used to run a terrorist training camp where people specialized in using wooden sticks as lethal weapons. He must be stopped at any cost.

The transition will happen here the following year and they are already fighting over the extra bandwidth which will be available then. Basically the biggest problem so far with the terrestial (dvb-t) transmissions has been the low bitrate. They are stuffing so many channels into a single mux it only looks good with an old tv. If you have cable or satellite the bitrate is better though. Most paytv providers use conax here and finding an external box with one is quite easy but for a computer those addons can be quite expensive. The adventurous geeks get by this problem with a softcam + smartcard reader combo. Setting a pvr box has never been this easy.

  12. dual vs. single + gpu on Valve's New Direction On Multicore Processors · · Score: 2, Informative

If you are on a budget and want to play games you'll probably get more bang for the buck with a single core proc and a better gpu than with the same amount of cash spent on dual core + slower gpu. I've been waiting for this to change for a while but so far it's been more marketing than anything else. I ended up moving the dual core proc to a linux box and single core to windows after a few weeks of testing. Naturally windows chugs more after a game and isn't as responsive but while playing it was hard to notice any tangible difference. With all the talk about the future the present seems forgotten.

If you want to overclock better steer clear and save up more for a complete system overhaul but for stingy persons it will work Unfortunately there's no 'real' (16x) pci-e + agp combinations for intel procs like the nice dualsata board for s939 since the pci-e implementation on pt880 (pro/ultra) chipsets is only 4x. I opted for the 865pe one since I needed 4 dimm slots. Time to save up more for the pci-e / ddr2 jump I guess.

Anyways I'm happy to see more competition which will lower the prices and force fanboys to come up with new arguments. Funnily enough everything has worked so far no matter the brand, even the z80.

Some cases had holes for extra fans but nobody bought those. I've never figured out why my 1st atx psu actually blew the hot air into the case and not out. Luckily when the honeymoon was over all I got was a bad smell and no broken parts out of it. If I'd have to mock up a case I'd probably base it on antec's slk3000b. It's quite affordable and pretty quiet too but it has some issues. Plastic door looks ok but if it's rarely closed what's the point besides hiding those ugly beige dvd drives. Cpu duct and vga grill could be optional as well but it has the basics right aka rubber donuts for hds and big enough holes for 120mm fans. Most of all it has spare room between the upper edge of the motherboard and the psu so getting a gargantuan cpu cooler in isn't a problem. I've had few older cases where big typhoon just wouldn't physically fit. Forget neon lights just make sure the case you are interested in has enough room for all the clutter and proper ventilation.

I guess it was easier for Pete Cooke and the rest when coding a game was a single man effort besides the mandatory stunt doing the music score. Then they started adding more and more people and now it sounds more like making a movie. I don't necessarily see the amount of people involved as a problem per say but often people have different agendas and it's hard to have them all sold on a well defined vision. Too often the way to go is to offer something for everyone in the process diluting the original idea if there ever was one. It seems like marketing has become the king even when it should be content and the coders are stuck in limbo between the utopia of what could have been and commercial values. "Forget the plot lets make really good looking screenshots" I doubt the soulless but pretty end result inspires coders much. For example Arcanum wasn't that pretty but it had an excellent main plot with multiple possible endings. Add five years and now we have Oblivion which looks really pretty but the plot seems like something Steve Ballmer came up with between his rants. Apparently it's more profitable to spend the cash in marketing than giving some of it to someone who knows about fantasy plots. George RR Martin, Robin Hobb et al spring to my mind. A really good plot might inspire the coders or it might not but it would certainly make games more interesting and something of that would have to trickle back. People will always complain about their jobs. At least most aren't digging graves in Finland.
